Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed one night. Lovely welcome with orange juice and freshly baked muffins. Well equipped, clean and plenty of space. Relatively quiet for a roadside motel. Owner was helpful and very welcoming. Close to the centre (2 minute drive) with good choice of amenities. Chosen because of close proximity to Manukau Heads and bays.

I really liked this motel. Yes it's a bit dated in the decor but the management and staff are genuinely warm and friendly. Comfortable beds and clean units are the important things and this motel has both.

We had a group of 25 on a golfing trip requiring one night's accommodation. We secured a good rate that was under $50 per head. We pretty much arrived at 6:30pm after our days play went out for the evening for dinner etc, were back to sleep and then out again at 8am for our next game. As such we didn't spend a great deal of time there, but felt that the rooms were more than adequate for such a trip, and the host Anne was very obliging and helpful.

Booked and confirmed a 1 bedroom unit for a family wedding, cost $145.00, in November, but was put in a 2 bedroom unit, and charged $170.00 when we arrived in February! We queried this at the time of arrival, but were told that ' we did it for your own comfort'! We complained to the Proprietors the next morning and showed them the confirmed booking sheet, but the Proprietor was very rude and was not prepared to listen or refund any money. We will definitely not be returning and do not recommend this motel.

Response from WaiukuLodgeMotel, Manager at Waiuku Lodge Motel
Responded 12 Feb 2015
Thank you for your feedback. Again we are sorry that you were not happy with the service. However, as it has been explained to you several times by 2 different people, and by email upon receiving your booking, you originally requested a room that could accommodate 4 people, should your sister and husband join you. You were advised at the time of booking that it was not possible for that room, and so put you into a 2 bedroom to allow for that. We asked on a couple of occasions (by phone and email) leading up to stay date how many guests and did not get notified until the morning of your stay. As we were fully booked many weeks previous to your stay, we left you in the 2 bedroom unit, so you would have room should you need it. There was no possible way we could have accommodated 4 people in the room you first requested, and had no other room available for your other guests to go to if they had needed it. We apologise you feel unsatisfied, but we were thinking of your comfort and trying to allow for your requests.

I would consider myself well travelled. Needed just a nights stay in Waiuku for a funeral. Ann and her husband were amazing! Fitting us in at short notice late and having heating on, even helping us with last minute requests... Yes it's basic - but it's motel in Waiuku, it was exceptionally clean and the bed and bedding was great. Ann even went the extra mile and baked breakfast for us. I would not hesitate to stay there again when in NZ. Thank you for sure high customer service to the hosts!

A large group of us stayed at this motel for a night for a friend's gig at the Waiuku Town Hall. We booked several rooms, and when we saw them, we thought that they were very overpriced. The decor is quite dated. This isn't an inherent problem if the place is clean and cheap, however the motel really isn't either. Apparently this place is the nicest place to stay in Waiuku - if that's the case I would not want to see the other motels!!

It feels very tired, and has a total hodgepodge of furniture, appliances and decor. There are also only a handful of power points in each room. It reminded me of how motels used to be, before the internet, and before reviews. Back in the bad old days, you'd book a motel blind, not knowing how good or bad they would be. Motels and hotels have improved over the years because of internet reviews....but I doubt this one has.

None of the rooms that we booked were that clean. The fridge in one room smelt horrendous - it actually smelt as though something had died in there. If you had the door open for more than a few seconds it would stink the whole room out. All of the lights had a large build up of dead bugs, and the top of the fridge and phone had a rather nasty build up of filth.

When we got there, we had thought that the manager was really welcoming, but there were a few things that stood out to us that made us think otherwise. In one room (sleeping four people that night) there was only one roll of toilet paper provided. We had to go and ask for more in the morning, and she didn't seem that keen on giving it to us.

When we went to leave in the morning, the manager came and grabbed the keys off us, and personally inspected the rooms prior to us leaving. It was just bizarre - I've stayed in a lot of motels and hotels over the years, and I've never seen anything like it. Thinking about it over brunch that morning, we began to realise why this may have been. We think that the motel's primary business is providing accommodation for WINZ clients - and that maybe she's used to having guests stealing or damaging stuff in the rooms. This may also explain the exorbitant charges for the rooms - they were at the top end of what WINZ are willing to pay per night, and the rooms had everything you would need to stay for an extended period of time (bar a fridge that doesn't make you gag every time you open it).

There was also no smoke alarm in our room. Considering the age of some of the appliances (the oven, for one), this is very very bad. You can pick up smoke alarms at Bunnings or Mitre 10 for next to nothing, so there is absolutely no excuse for this.

The parking situation is also very poor. If you stay in the rooms closer to the front of the property, the parks outside the rooms are very shallow. The spaces are only really long enough for small hatch backs, and the road/driveway is only about 3 m across. It feels wrong to say this (I hate the thought of there being less green space in cities), but there is a wide expanse of lawn (roughly 2-3 m wide), that should be removed and paved to allow better maneuverability in front of those rooms. We were in a Suzuki Swift, and we had a tough time getting in and out of the spaces. Friends in larger vehicles found it nearly impossible to negotiate.

The motel wasn't all bad though. The muffins (mentioned in a few other reviews) are really very good. The location is quite good too, as it isn't too far out of the township. We all slept pretty well, and the place is surprisingly quiet considering that it's on a fairly busy road.

I highly doubt that we would ever stay again, and I wouldn't recommend this motel to other people.

Hospitality was amazing here. The owner txt me as soon as booking was confirmed & greeted us on arrival. Very accommodating & genuinely lovely woman. Room was fine, clean, comfortable & has everything you need. Shower was awesome! Close to the town for food etc. Owner also baked us muffins for breakfast. Will definitely stay here again if we go back to spookers!

Service was friendly and the unit was very clean.

However it needs a few basic things to bring it up to scratch with modern expectations.

More power outlets needed.
Darker/thicker curtains are needed.
Shower pressure was minimal.
Pillows old/uncomfortable.
Nowhere to hang clothing.

Car parks are very tight... Gardens and overall decor needs a bit of a spruce up, this seems well overdue.

However we were here for a wedding so didn't stay in the unit long.

The above points probably need to be addressed to justify the price which was close to $140 for a studio - the experience was probably more like a $90 motel, particularly as this is in a small town.

Again, very clean.

The Waiuku Lodge Motel is situated on the main highway from Pukekohe to Waiuku. It is about 19 km's from Pukekohe.
I arrived at night at about 8.15pm to find the manager's office locked and a sign to say the office was closed after 8pm. I admit I often phone if I anticipate being late but didn't consider this was late enough to be of concern. The young woman manager was very welcoming and helpful during my stay.
The room I stayed in had no in room safe. The décor was in need of a refresh but the room was overall clean. The basic facilities were all available. The television set was an old-style TV, and not a flat screen model.
The bathroom was a fairly confined space and the shower was fairly small which is representative of showers in the era it was constructed in.
I don't want to openly criticise the Waiuku Lodge Motel because "it is okay" but it isn't somewhere I'd choose to stay at by preference.
I had to find a blanket during the night

Very disappointed in your mannerism, the price you expected Me to pay for my 2 nephews & myself for 2 nights was overly priced, my own kids where only allowed to visit for 1hr as you said "cup of coffee & bickies" then go home, I haven't seen my adult kids/mokos since July of last year!!! To top it off whoever your cleaner is needs a wake up call or sacked & yes I do know how a motel/hotel should be like & our unit was very disgusting, I will not be coming back, definitely a big "0" from Me
