This holiday park is located on the tip of the Awhitu Peninsula, on the southern edge of the Manukau Harbour, just an hour from Auckland through beautiful countryside. The camp itself forms part of the tiny settlement of Big Bay, and is located just across the road from a lovely white sand beach. This is a very friendly place with a real family feel. It offers motels, cabins and caravan accommodation, plus motor home, caravan and tent sites. The camp is sheltered, and most tent sites have shade hedges. Well stocked shop. Simple facilities, plenty of showers. Very safe for children. Communal courtyard round the pizza oven creates a really nice feel. Owners are very friendly and helpful. A great hideaway that is surprisingly quiet given that it is so close to Auckland. It is sometimes on the airport flightpath, which can at first be startling but we quickly became avid planespotters.

An old camp showing signs of wear and tear. There were cabins available for rent however we went in our motor home. The site was good but the nearby beach was rather dirty and unattractive compared to nearby Orua Bay. Stayed at Orua Bay next night and it was a modern clean campground which was much greater value for money and had a much cleaner interesting beach.

We just spent the week at Big Bay with our family. We camped in our tent out the back on the beautiful tent sites surrounded by the trees and stars at night. The camp is really well set out with a shop and takeaways onsite with some of the best burgers and fish we have had in ages. We spent new years on the beach with a fire and friends welcoming in the new year watching the fireworks from the sky tower and the locals of the bay itself. The owners were very helpful and friendly towards us and we will definitely be back again. Thanks for a great holiday.

Such a great family oriented place to stay. Safe holiday park so kids free to run off and play with new friends they met at the campground. Pizza oven is awesome and we used it heaps. Facilities well cared for and clean. Hosts are lovely and always helpful. Safe swimming beach just across the road. Plenty of places to explore. Was an awesome family getaway and we look forward to going back as soon as we can.

My husband and I really enjoyed our time at big bay over the long weekend. There was plenty of room for the kids to play and it's just across the road from the beach!! Was very convenient having the fish and chip shop/dairy on site too. A great affordable getaway for the whole family :-)

The customer service was disgusting! Rude, grumpy and unwelcoming. We felt like we were imposing upon them.
As soon as we arrived we got welcomed with an odd look and a 'yes!'. That was it!
The showers and toilet was very dated and dirty. The toilet had no way to dry your hands. You had to use a $1 coin for a 5 min shower. Which we were never told about when we arrived. So it was a scramble to find a $1 coin for the 4 kids shower as we arrived a bit late.
When the machine gobbled my husband's coin he went and complained and she basically told him he was lying. So he had to break another $2 coin for 2 $1 coins. And then when he went back, (to another shower), the shower lasted about a minute. When he went to complain she again told him he was lying.
We would not go back!

We stayed there one night and would never go back. Welcome wasn't a word we would use. We had our dogs in our Motorhome and when I had them out walking around on their leads, I was told that they were only allowed on our very small section. So we went down to the beach. What a disgusting sight and smell we encountered. The stream which was fed also by the open drains was black, and stunk. The open drains were bubbling with pollution. I actually smelled the stink soon after I'd paid the camp fees and considered leaving, but I'd been driving for quite a while so decided to stay for the night.
The toilet had no drying facility for hands and the showers weren't flash.
No way would we have considered buying food there.
At night the area around us was pitch black. The next morning we moved to the other end of the beach away from the stench and had breakfast in much fresher surroundings. Many of the houses down that end of the beach were for sale. They will be for some time!!

We spent a night here in our motorhome last week. We had been planning on staying at Orua Bay but the camp was closed, so headed to Big Bay. The lady in the office was welcoming and friendly. She offered for us to join them to watch the Rugby (Highlanders/Hurricanes) that night on the big TV which I presume was in the entertainment room. We stayed in the warmth of the motorhome instead. The camp is only a very short walk to the beach, tho it didn't look too good when we went, a quite dirty looking stream area leading to it. And as the tide was out there were more mudflats than beach. The motorhome sites are out the front of the office area. Average sized sites, but quite wet when we stayed. The rest of the camp is extremely run down. Thankfully we used motorhome, as the showers looked very cold and dirty. Toilet area also very dated. The area the Pizza Oven is quite untidy and not very attractive at all. We note that the holiday park is on the market. Hopefully new owners will tidy the place up a lot, it needs it. Also as it is across the harbour from the International Airport, there are planes going at all times of the day and night. You can here them taking off and flying overhead and also coming into land.

Run down facilities and grumpy owners. Motorhome site adjacent to the carpark and 7 day local shop - noisy, dusty and busy - most unpleasant. We never complain but this would have to be one of the worst camps we have ever stayed at. Chalk and cheese to Orua Bay down the road a few km's which is fantastic.
