This is a beautiful place to be,the room is lovely and view stunning, loved the outdoor bath and meal preparation, you cook your own food with the most basic of utilities. ie only 2 spoons,2 forks etc,no sharp knife to cut anything and only 1 saucepan and small bbq, adequate but a little mean. The cost is on the high side with full amount to be paid 21 days in advance with absolutely no cancelation or forfeit the lot.
For isolation ( no cell coverage at all) and peace, only 3 sites well apart ,it would appear idyllic. Since our last visit they have built a camp that takes up to 40 or so guests, this camp overlooks two of the tent sites,so that outdoor bath? We raised an umbrella for privacy but our bath can be seen from the road to the other 2 sites. No cell coverage is not a problem until someone tries to enter our tent at 5 am,despite our letting the business know we, to date, have not had a response. We live rural and no animal tries to open doors, this we know, anyway never saw any animals.
The toilet is composting,no flush, with a seal covering your waste our seal stopped working, again no response.
So the initial set up was great, plentiful food, comfy bed, delightful bath with a view.
Owners who care about your privacy and safety are missing however, overall a four for the setup, customer care a nought.

I can't recommend this experience enough. I booked the venue for 10 of us for our end of year work party. We were immediately struck by the isolation and serenity of the Village. The photos don't do it justice. The rooms were well set out and the beds comfortable. The environment is absolutely perfect.

The food was incredibly generous and absolutely delicious. There were little things that elevated the food - from the warm baguettes at lunch time, the incredible pre-dinner cheeseboard to the very popular fried bread at breakfast. I was amazed at just how much food we were served. We didn't seem to stop eating.

The staff were friendly and accommodating and readily available to assist you. They were absolute marvels really the way they organised everything.

We did the cocktail challenge which was really great fun and brought out everyone's competitive sides. Much more entertaining and funny than expected!

We ended our night with a sing along and guitar playing while we sat around the campfire with marshmallows. Absolute bliss.

For my 30th I decided I wanted to celebrate a little differently by taking friends and family on a mini vacation after the international holiday plans couldn't go ahead. When doing some research I came across Glam Camping at Castaways and it looked perfect! The venue had everything I needed, glamping tents on site so guests could stay, picturesque scenery, a bar and a dining area- all managed by great staff which meant all my guests (and I) could just enjoy the experience. I really couldn't recommend this venue enough for anyone who wants to host a memorable event at an oasis which is located a convenient hour drive from Auckland.

Such a lovely venue for our team Christmas retreat. The Glam Camping village hosted 22 of us for an afternoon and overnight stay. We were able to tailor the details of our experience to fit with what we were looking for and the staff looked after us really well throughout our stay. The fire pit was an awesome part of the experience - so simple, but great for getting the team all together for lots of laughs and a jam session. The glamping tents are well set up for a great nights sleep - very comfortable and good quality, with everything you would need for an overnight stay. Would really recommend a visit.

This place is just amazing. From the golf buggy ride in, to the gorgeous, luxurious cabin to the outdoor bath, everything was just spectacular. They have thought of everything, just take a toothbrush! The view from the tent is amazing, and sitting in the outdoor bath looking at the stars was just breathtaking. There was sooo much delicious food to cook on the BBQ. Our only regret was staying one night, not two. We can't wait to go back. They have some board games and cards, you get your wine. What more could you want?

The Glamping Village at Castaways is a conference venue not to be missed! The cleverly built accomodation with luxuriously warm beds & cute ensuites, the large conference tent PLUS the seperate dining/lounge tent are all top notch and provide a great vibe for the overall glamping experience. The catering was exceptional and the team looking after us were simply awesome. It was great having the village to ourselves and though the weather wasn't 'perfect' the location and experience over-delivered on my expectations and the team were buzzing from a fun 2 nights away. There's loads of activities on offer as well so you can get a great balance of 'classroom' style learning & fun team building. The outdoor fire pit/toasting of marshmallows completes the village vibe!

We had the worst possible weather but that did not take away from how spectacular the Glam Camping tents were at Castaways! Everything was brilliant, the food was almost excessive ans the outside bath (even in the pouring rain) was spectacular. Such a stunning escape from the world with no cellphone signal or TV to be tempted by. We will be back, next time we will request the tussock tent..

The tent and food were excellent but the carts are very sub standard and the rod out to the tent, which we had difficulty finding, was bordering on dangerous.
The first time we visited, we got lost and gave up.
The second time, we finally found it.

This won't be for everyone. While the idea was appealing, due to the tents being nestled in a valley, cheek by jowl with the bar and food serving facilities, there was no escape from the noise of nightime revellers, even in your tent with a pillow over your head. Also you can hear your neighbours in their tents.

Something else that surprised me was the lack of biodiversity around us. There was a patch of nasty pinus radiata in the front, denuded, eroded and barren hills all around and oddly, only exotic species like banana palms and succulents planted within. There were a few harakeke on one hill behind us - the only native planting.

As a result there were no native birds to be heard (no food for them after all), just horrible magpies and screetchy mynas. So it didn't particularly feel like one was even in New Zealand, you could have been anywhere. (I did hear a ruru one night though)

There is no sign that Castaways is rewilding their paddocks, which is a shame. There are very few instagramable views. Although you look out to sea, you are at the top of a cliff. To access the beach, you must walk back the way you came (your car is left minutes away from the complex because the roads are pretty rough), a good 20 minute walk each way I'd say, quite steep some of it.

There catering was good and expertly done. The tents are serviced daily.

We had an amazing time for my hens do. Everything was so well organised and run on the day, I didn’t have to worry about anything. The glamping tents were incredibly tidy and warm, the staff were efficient and professional, I highly recommend castaways!
