Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If there were 6 stars, I would give them. Absolutely quiet at night, the mattresses are a dream. The furnishings in the room and bathroom are practically new and of high quality. Very clean, the rooms were impeccably cleaned. A visit to the sauna is highly recommended. Here too, very clean and the furnishings are as good as new. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired. The coffee... a delight. Coffee time with homemade baked goods from the boss... a dream. The staff are always friendly, motivated and accommodating. The boss and bosses live this out!!👍 The location is a perfect starting point for all activities. We felt completely at home.

The rooms and the whole hotel are very individual, high quality and tastefully decorated. Breakfast left nothing to be desired and tasted great. The sauna area is also highly recommended. We will definitely come back!

This was our second visit to hotel Gams. This time, we booked a Great Room. Nicely decorated. Bed with good mattresses. Two comfortable chairs. Empty fridge for own use. Nice modern bathroom with rain shower. Free WiFi is adequate. The breakfast is really great: a lot of choice and high quality local products. Very friendly staff, from the gentleman that serves breakfast to the reception ladies.

Situated on the edge of Oberstdorf. Supermarket around the corner. A ten minute walk to the centre. Many options for hiking, 5 cable cars are included in the hotel price (Allgäu/Walser chipcard). Bus stop to Kleinwalsertal and Fellhornbahn nearby. Several great restaurants are situated on walking distance. We can recommend Traube (frequented by local guests, live music, nice Biergarten), das Jagdhaus (great food, made with local ingredients) and Maximillians (excellent wining and dining).

We'll be back!

Within few minutes to the center of Oberstdorf
Staff was excellent at check in and breakfast

Rooms are clean and free parking

The charging scheme however is very old fashioned and just paying double for a double room is silly - not worth 160 a night sorry

Breakfast room is small but ok

For a single traveller a good place to stay - for a couple perhaps to expensive
So at this stage not again for us

Good breakfast. Nice rooms and new furniture, gozy atmosphere. Hot sauna. Good service, nice staff. Not far from city centre. Free car parking. More glasses where to drink wine. For dubble room could be big blanket one for two people.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in October 2017. On the top floor we were greeted by a huge room with a fantastic view of the Alps and a super-modern bathroom.
The breakfast was sumptuous.
Internet reception in the room was virtually nonexistent. On the ground floor it was OK.
Parking was provided in an underground garage (8 lots) or next to the building.

It is walking distance to Markt (where all the shops and a few cafes are). You would need the cafe as the hotel small restaurant is only open during breakfast. It is probably wise to get some drinks from the supermarket Rewe around the corner for drinks and snacks in case you get hungry and not want to go to the Markt.
The hotel is nicely designed, stylish with latest fixtures. The room is big and so is the bath. The balcony is good for some reading time. Bogner shower gel and lotion are provided, the rest you have to bring.
On check in, the receptionist who must have came from one of the rooms, placed a small bucket on the reception table. Never mind if we are checking in. She gave us the key informing us that the room is ready but a maintenance staff will knock in the next hour to do some touch up jobs. Ten minutes after we were in the room, the staff came with a brush and paint and he took just a few minutes and left. Just when we were about to leave, a housekeeping lady came and said she was not finish with cleaning the room. She even explained that her colleague was wrong to give us the room.
The reception is closed after 2 or 3 pm and opens again at 6 pm. We could not get a password to use the complimentary internet, it is advisable to get it upon check in, receptionist will not offer it to you.
Before checking out, my husband brought some of our luggage to the car which made the housekeeping think that we have left. While dressing up, housekeeping went inside the room without knocking. Of course, all she could do is apologize while I stand there in half naked.
