There are no lifts except in the main building. The surprise of the day is which building your room is in. Mainly if you are not good on your feet or have to carry small dogs. A scoop of ice cream for dessert with dinner costs EUR 1.70 as part of the half-board package. This is even if you do not have dessert at the buffet. I have never experienced anything like this anywhere in the world. The staff are generally rather arrogant and only trained in service. In the room, our dog found a toy belonging to the previous occupant under the bed. Why pay EUR 20.00 per night for an animal if it is not even cleaned properly after you leave? There is a lot more to say about the small rooms, the paddling pool that is advertised as a pool, etc.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. When I arrived, the temperature in my room was tropical because the heating was on 4 and a window was open. There were two hairs in the sink and many of the wooden furniture had woodworm holes. Pretty much everything in this room was made of dark wood, which is very depressing and makes the room incredibly dark. In addition to the very shabby carpet, the curtains made of thick floral fabric are very practical for the night, but very old-fashioned. During the day, hardly any light comes into the room, because there are no thinner curtains that let the light through but keep you out.
The breakfast was good, apart from the coffee. For dinner on the first evening, we had very small portions of cheese spaetzle that didn't taste of cheese and a sauce with mushrooms from a jar. On the second evening there was a BBQ in the pavilion, which was very, very good!
All in all, a friendly hotel in a great location, but one that could really do with some updating. Carpets and decorative curtains on four-poster beds are not only very old-fashioned, but also a hygienic issue for many people.

We were in Oberstdorf at the end of October, there was already some snow on the mountains.
The cable car tickets were available in the hotel for €20 per person and you could ride all the cable cars that day.
The food was served as plated dishes, 3 to choose from every day, and was always plentiful and delicious. Starters and desserts were available as a rich buffet

We have absolutely nothing to complain about. The staff is extremely friendly, which is really exceptional. Breakfast and dinner were very tasty and you didn't miss anything at all. The rooms are big and tidy. There were very comfortable beds. The location is very quiet and you have a beautiful view of the mountains. The wellness area is a bit small, but if you come hiking or skiing, that doesn't matter. We'd love to come back!

The hotel advertises "FREE cancellation" and "no advance payment necessary" in capital letters on Booking.com. However, it is not mentioned that this only applies to the advertised rates up to 30 days before the travel date.
I fell into this trap. I had booked several nights from June 27, 2023, but had to cancel the trip for personal reasons. So on June 6 - 3 weeks before the trip - I made a request for cancellation. This was rejected briefly and impersonally, and the full room price was due.
A detailed comparison with similar hotels in Oberstdorf shows that almost all rates there can be canceled up to one or two weeks in advance. In one case even 2 days before departure. The Alpenhotel therefore has very unfriendly conditions compared to other hotels. There are more flexible rates, but these are very well hidden. This is dubious advertising.
I made a second written request; here too, the request was rigidly rejected. I made the third request by phone, still well before the planned stay, and offered to pay 50% of the price. They were even more cold-blooded on the phone, and the rejection was condescending and impersonal.
Of course I paid for the room I didn't use; the legal situation is clear. It is all the more absurd that the hotel sent the invoice four (!) times: 1 x as a PDF, 1 x on paper and 2 x via Booking.com.
Overall, the contact was impersonal, dismissive and the written communication was unprofessional. I would not recommend this hotel.

although it is a smoking free hotel, our room smelled like cigarettes smoke!
the waiter (bold hair, black shirt and pants) was very rude at the dinner. as we booked halbpension, i thought that the whole buffet is included, i did not know that the small buffet by the piano is exclusively prepared for the ski group, so i wanted to scoop some mashed potatoes for my daughter. he started to yell at us. my daughter ended up crying for the potatoes and he did not bother to apologize! we've been guests of this hotel for several years but i think he already made me rethink it.

Very nice, quiet place. Scenic very romantically located between the mountains. You can do something different every day. Cycle paths , hiking trails all super signposted. For relaxation after the mountain hike there is a very nice pool area with separate Jacuzzi. High praise to service at reception and dining area. Here you are really treated as a guest. We had booked half board. Extremely good and above all rich offer. The buffet is so big every day that you cannot taste everything. That's great. Also special requests such as certain room booked everything was taken into account. We felt really comfortable. Thank you very much. We would definitely come back.

The hotel consists of several different buildings. The style (sometimes also furnishings) is characterized by the 80s and 90s. Everything is very clean and well maintained, makes overall the impression of "old fashion" . The hotel is well run according to old style, they value a good hotel culture. For several days stay a table is permanently assigned at breakfast, Has advantages and disadvantages depending on the table. The "supervision" in the breakfast room is reminiscent of youth hostel, requests for e.g. another table are not answered very friendly. But we got a different, brighter and very nice place from the second day.
Wellness area is manageable, outdoor area of the wellness complex disappointing.
Unfortunately also in this hotel staff shortage, so e.g. in the large garden no service is offered.
My room was very good , big comfortable. No air conditioning. My friends had some significantly reduced rooms , were sometimes correspondingly more dissatisfied, although they booked the same category.
Location without car satisfactory, with car but very good.

Unfortunately we only spent an extended weekend at Alpenhotel Oberstdorf and enjoyed the worst phase in terms of weather, but the stay for it all the more!!!
Even the warm welcome with helpful tips and then the courteous staff in the restaurant immediately provided the right feel-good factor.
The room was spacious and cozy and very clean - nothing to complain about, except maybe the long walk from and to the restaurant and spa area in the main house. But we just saw it as an additional sports unit 😊
The food in the restaurant was rich and very delicious and also very varied.
The spa area is small but fine and the treatments in the spa area very soothing.

The most positive thing we found was the quiet location with a great view of the valley. We have booked a junior suite with breakfast for 5 nights. The breakfast buffet was sufficiently good with many unprocessed products (such as: vegetables, fruit, boiled eggs, yogurt, cream cheese, cheese, kernels, water, various coffee specialties, tea). But there were also various pastries, various cheeses, sausage, ham, liver sausage, ricotta, fruit salad, cereals and singular cereals. The hotel is large and beautifully designed with lots of decoration.
What we didn't like so much, the staff wanted to assign us the tables in the morning like around kindergarten even though the dining room was not even 30% occupied, so not even a high occupancy rate would have justified such an unusual procedure. The tables in the anteroom were oriented in such a way that customers would have to look towards the side table instead of the great view on the mountains....This is really a shame. As well as the parking spaces are quite narrow and rather less suitable for low-lying cars and only available in limited numbers. The one or the other staff has unfortunately not always interacted friendly.
