We often drive past this pub and it always looked like a lovely place to stay so I booked a room for my wife’s birthday on a Saturday night and we were not disappointed. Lovely well maintained and thoughtfully designed and laid out hotel, bar and restaurant in an amazing setting with fantastic views out over the river. The garden is very well designed with several areas where you can enjoy a drink in the summer sunshine and each area is quite different. Both the restaurant and the garden areas are well thought out so there are lots of tables which are not too close together and you don’t feel over crowded. Restaurant has a lovely conservatory looking past the outside raised decking area where you can also eat out over the river and there is a comfortable bar area with an extensive range of beers and lagers to enjoy.

Our room was cosy and well equipped and I think the rooms have been recently refurbished because they all seem very comfortable with lovely furnishings.

We had a wonderful stay in this very relaxing pub hotel which had everything we needed and more. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful which added to the experience and David the manager couldn’t do enough for us.

Thanks to David and his team you have a gem of a place and we will certainly be returning in the future.

I have eaten here a few times when I lived closer and always found the food and the service excellent and yesterday was no exception. The dinner offered plenty of choice, the ability to amend the menu to suit me and was very hot and well presented. We both had the pate to start and then two mixed grills and apple pie with coconut ice cream. Young Maddy was so professional and caring on her first week at the Riverside and made sure we were welcomed and felt at home. We were also served by Tilly who again was very professional and friendly. The bar staff were good fun and enjoyed banter about gin. We stayed at the Riverside this time and what a wonderful well furnished room and bathroom we had - the bed was really comfy and for once in a hotel we could freely open the window! A great show with plenty of hot water and lovely smelling shower gel. We were greeted by Grainne at breakfast and wee very well looked after. What a lovely caring and friendly lady who really looked after us. Again the food and choice at breakfast was first class. There is plenty of off road parking here. We will be back.

We had a lovely 3 night stay. Our room was very clean with all necessary essentials to make us comfortable. We were very well looked after at breakfast by Cheryl and the team and could not fault the freshly prepared breakfast. The evening meals were also very good but would have liked to choose a table of our liking especially as we had booked at the start of our stay. On asking to change table to a quieter part of the restaurant we were met with a definite 'no'! We were in room 6 at the top of the inn and found the narrow bendy stairs difficult so people should be aware of this before booking. We would like to commend the cleaning staff as everywhere was immaculate. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

We arrived at the Riverside to be very impressed with the recent refit. We have used this venue a few times over the last few years it is not a local venue so involves quite a drive for us. The reason we went to the Riverside was to take our son in law who was recovering from quite a serious illness. I understand that the hospitality industry is a very challenging environment at the moment but from my observations a lot of operators do not help themselves. We had 3 starters which were all ok,honey and ale crispy chicken strips and wild garlic mushrooms
on sourdough. The mains were a completely different story 2 frozen fish and chip dinners both exactly the same size and shape not in my opinion hand battered as described. Then there is my main meal steak and ale pie a circular and deep pie first impressions were very good, this impression changed immediately as I cut into the pie the thinnest layer of mediocre meat lay on the bottom of the pie.
All that I can say for a bill of £170 plus this was in no way a good experience. The only 2 redeeming factors were the stunning view and very attentive staff.
Yours Extremely Disappointed.

Good Afternoon Thank you for the feedback from your visit with us. We do really appreciate it and the honest assessment can only help us improve. We are sorry to hear the food let your visit down and this is something we actively take on board and pass on the the relevant teams. We can assure you our fish is hand battered on site and done by the chefs to order. This is something we have always done. Our pies are provided to us and we will absolutely be passing on the feedback to them regarding the lack of filling as this is not what we also expect. We are very sorry about this and can assure you your review does get used to improve things. We would always encourage you to pass on this feedback whilst visiting us and our team would have done their best to rectify this for you at the time. Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the team and venue. We hope you will visit us again.

We booked a table for 3 people at 1pm today. The place is lovely, great atmosphere and decor. Sunday roast fantastic, but then, after we’d finished our main meal, the front of house asked if we could vacate the table as they were expecting a large booking! This was at 1:50! I’d heard them ask the table of 6 next to us to do the same! We didn’t even have time to order a dessert. When I asked what we needed to do if we wanted a dessert, she said we could order at the bar and sit in there. We were very disappointed, especially as we were dining to celebrate a special occasion. Moral of the story is……..if you want to eat there, make sure you ask for a table that you can eat all courses at! The whole point is to enjoy a relaxing meal. Not the greatest experience for us. Shame really, because until we were asked to move, we were enjoying our day. Now just feel disappointed. Oh yes, and we ate dessert at home!!

Firstly, I tried to book a table for 10 people online. The booking went through but then a few days later, I thought it was strange that I'd not received confirmation, so I called to check upon my reservation, to be told "you can only book up to a table of 7"... nowhere does it say this on the website. Luckily the fitted us in, but at a later time.
Where we were sat, we were in a "fly zone" it was incredibly off putting. We counted 12 flies above us, on the beams, all of which were all around our meals as we tried to eat. Upon complaining we were told "it's that time of year" Now we appreciate that you are by a river and the windows/doors were open, but we never saw anyone else's table swotting flies away. It was absolutely disgusting. As a restaurant you should be doing something to ease the issue so diners don't have to spend the entire dining experience making sure flies don't land in their food!
We were a party of nine, four of us had bad meals. My mash was hard, a case of being over cooked in the microwave, my steak and ale pie's crust was incredibly tough! The mixed grill, the meats were tough and tasteless, the chips tasted reheated and were left. The fish batter was too hard. Considering how much you pay, the food was not at all quality! The only thing good about this establishment is the Riverside view on a nice evening.

Booked in with family for breakfast on a quiet Sunday morning. We ordered our food, two full English two smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. One guest asked to swap black pudding for a second fried egg and one guest asked for poached instead of fried.

The meals arrived. The first English without black pudding didn’t have the extra egg until it was pointed out and the waitress returned with one on a plate after we had started eating. The meal with the poached egg arrived with a fried egg. A poached egg arrived separately half way through!!. We asked for glasses of orange juice but had to chase twice.

When the bill arrived we were charged for the extra egg although the waitress agreed to substitute it for the black pudding when it was ordered.

We asked for the bill, received it but had to ask the chef if he could get somebody to let us settle it although we did notice that the staff generally seemed happy chatting amongst themselves rather than attending to guests.

No doubt this is a superb pub, restaurant, hotel refurbished to a high standard with great views over the river and the food was very good.

Just a pity the service was poor. Glad a service charge wasn’t added to the bill because we wouldn’t have paid it.

As a paying guest this element needs some attention

We together with a group of friends ( 6 ) have met up at the Riverside Inn for lunch about every 6 weeks for the past 2 years. The location could not be better, the food has always been good and the service from staff excellent but sadly not anymore. The menu has changed and of course there has been a price increase but the quality of the food is no longer inline with the prices. 3 of our party has fish and chips and the fish was tasteless obviously not fresh, chips were just warm and you could no longer just order bread/butter without combining it with scampi ( if you wanted scampi that’s what you would order) at an extra cost of nearly £3. The chicken was still raw in the centre and was returned ( this was taken off the bill). We waited 30 mins to have our plates cleared away and to order coffee and deserts. The mini trifle with coffee was a joke.
The service from the 2 older ladies was what you would expect but after they went off duty sadly this could not be said of younger staff one of whom was quite rude when we asked to order desert. One off our party spoke to a guy we presumed was the manager and said how disappointed we were and that things were not up to the usual standards in fact he asked if the pub had been taken over by another group. The manager’s response when we said we were considering meeting up elsewhere was ‘ that’s up to you’ he could not have cared less. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Having spent a number of hours walking around a very cold Shrewsbury we arrived at a lovely looking Pub/Hotel. However that's where it went down hill. We were given the attic room which was absolutely freezing! Having turned on the radiator it made no difference. The window didn't seal so the draught was continuous. We were given another room on request which was also cold but the radiators came on immediately. Unfortunately bathroom was still freezing. (But the bathroom was large and the weather outside very cold) On arrival for breakfast the next morning the Customer service was non existence. (After order taken) There was no eye contact no interaction from the staff. Staff should realise that squeezing spots on their faces in full view of a customer is unexceptional. The cleaning of the public area should be stepped up as nan bread under the settees crayons and shells from mussels should have been removed before the guests got up in the morning. (The mess was removed when pointed out). Rooms were very clean.

Excellent location for a meal or drink in the summer as the river bends round the pub/hotel.

Return visit to the Riverside after the long awaited refurbishment was completed and the venue reopened just over a week ago. The transformation is superb and the place exudes quality with decor , furnishings and fittings all tastefully matched and of a high standard. The new rear extensions was fabulous with stunning views of the River Severn and the surrounding Shropshire countryside. Some of the former employees have remained which was welcoming and our waitress Patsy was most attentive and professional and helpful in answering any questions we had. The menu was extensive and very reasonably priced with our meals delivered promptly and when they did arrive were very plentiful and very tasty . My only disappointment was the choice of draught and/ or bottled beers with no bitter and no darker ales either draught or bottled which for me meant no alcoholic drink that really took my fancy which was a shame. The Barman said they were hoping to get more soon but would have thought they would have catered for a wider range of choice prior to opening. Despite this it did not detract too much from our visit and we left via the back so we could take a look at the extensive outdoor seating areas some under cover and some out in the open by the riverbank , also and additional bar/coffee shop area outside if you do not want to go into the main building for a quick drink . Notwithstanding my gripe with the drinks choice it was a wonderful dining experience in a beautiful setting and we will be regular visitors in the future. Well done to everyone involved in the refurb.
