Detailed Reviews
Had a lovely stay here, walked miles on routes recommended by Dominique, just as well as the food was so good! The Tarteflet deserves particular mention. Rooms were clean, comfortable and smart. Great shower. Location is good for exploring the Vercors. Walking distance to Villard de Lans. Highly recommended as a base for walking especially with the local knowledge from Dominique to assist with getting the best out of your visit.

NIce stay in La Taiga last week (17 - 22 jan), located in quiet spot and within walking distance of Villard de Lans. Excellent guided tours on raquettes, in northern part of the Vercors. Recommendable for fans of active holidays and people that are interested in the area they stay in for a while. A big thank you to the owners of LaTaiga, Catherina and Francois, for their stories, good atmosphere and hospitality.

This family hotel is ideally situated just outside Villard de Lans. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and overlook the surrounding mountains and woods. The food is excellently cooked and, where possible, the ingredients are locally produced. The hotel manager has expert undestanding of the walking and cycling areas and as a consequence provides suitable suggestions and maps for his guests. The atmosphere within the hotel is calm and tranquil and a warm welcome awaits you on your arrival.

Our stay knew absolutely no flaws. François, Catherine and their staff were anxious to let us enjoy every moment, during trails, rides, or meals. The country side is enthralling and (almost) everything is done by the local authorities to allow peacefull wandering and/or extreme mountain biking.
The "Hotel Randonneur" label is very well deserved, François loves to share his vast knowledge of the region and it's history.

Very friendly, informal, family run, small hotel. Thus if no-one is at the desk, just walk through the lounge and look for François in the garden. It is a nice quiet hotel with good views from all the chalet type rooms. Plenty of parking. We had dinner at the hotel and enjoyed the traditional home cooking. We had a table for two. We were on a walking holiday and were grateful for the advice about walking trails, as well as the packed lunch. Wifi and Visa worked well for us, we had to phone thru to pay our deposit in advance. We were glad we did because the hotel was full - of cyclists. It was fun to practice our French and experience a French family hotel, although English is spoken.

We stayed with Dominique and Marie-Jose during September 2012 and found the welcome to be charming and sincere. They successfully tread the line between friendly and professional with tact and humour. We will stay again when, hopefully, the weather will be a little kinder and we will be able to see the views of the surprisingly good golf course just up the road at Correncon-en-Vercors. We also intend to return for the skiing.
The food was good, wholesome and regional. The rooms, although not huge, are chalet-like, well appointed and recently refurbished. There is no noise from the road as the hotel lies about 200 yards off the "main" road. They supply free wi-fi, which was very useful.
The other guests were cyclists, touring motor cyclists, and other active visitors to the beautiful Vercors valley. All were friendly and good company.
As a little note, I left my prescription sunglasses behind, and they have been returned by post to the UK. Offering to repay the expenses, they replied: either send the payment or wait until we return one day. Can't imagine such a kind response from a larger hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at La Taiga. Francois and Catherine are lovely hosts. The small hotel is very comfortable and has a friendly atmosphere. Our room had a great view of the mountains, a king-size bed, a nice ensuite, and efficient storage space.
Catherine is a wonderful cook, producing delicious evening meals. Francois is an excellent mountain guide, with a deep knowledge of the mountains, and the local flora and fauna.
We love the Alps in winter, and used to go skiing. But since trying snow-shoeing, that's what we do every year, and La Taiga is the perfect place for it!

We stayed two nights here in order to meet some friends. The hosts are indeed very welcoming and able to provide good local information. They have a good selection of maps and guides fro you to borrow. It's a fairly typical ski resort hotel at the lower end - no frills but everything you need for a pleasant stay and huge portions of food for the active outdoor type. They strive hard to put local dishes on the menu but if you are not skiing of cycling it's a bit on the substantial side!
The rooms have the wooden "alpine" look and are simply furnished with new comfortable beds (and plasticised undersheets which make the sheets slip off in the night). They ask you not to heat the bedrooms beyond 20 degrees but our bathroom had a radiator blasting out heat which could not be adjusted, so we have to have the windows open most of the time. Only basic shower gel/shampoo provided but good sheets and towels.
The hotel is not in the village itself so you do really need the demi pension. It has good parking, and walks are possible from the door. While we were there the wifi did not work at all; the internet had been cut for the whole area. The hotel benefits from a nice garden with tables and chairs, and also there is a seating area in the dining room.
Our room did not have a balcony but we saw that those on the first floor did.

A MUST for hikers!
Exquisite local cuisine prepared with care and success by the Chef and truly brilliant supervised hikes embellished with lots of stories of all kinds which delighted us.
François is inexhaustible and has a rare culture while being humble and within our reach.

We loved the superb hikes chosen and commented on by François as well as the cuisine, both in the evening and for our picnics.
Unfortunately I think it was one of the last stays at La Taïga which will soon close but you never know
