We are just on our way home after a wonderful week at Altapura. We were looked after from the moment we arrived. Checked in, shown round the hotel and bags delivered to room. We stayed in a delux room with a mountain view and the view was just incredible! The room was an excellent size, had everything we needed, very clean and great turn down service (bottled water and sweets every night).
Food was very good, and we also ate at the fondue restaurant which was delish! The bar area is so relaxing and comfortable it makes up for the expensive drinks menu (but very good selection!). We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the hotel. We had several treatments at the spa which were absolutely fantastic (thank you Camille).
The hotel is truly ski in ski out, ski straight out of the locker room (one locker per room, with boot warmers and helmet hooks). It’s location is a bit out of town however they run a shuttle service up to the town (only a 5 min walk)....they are literally waiting to take you wherever you want in town, extremely friendly and efficient.
But overall it is the staff that make this hotel. Extremely friendly and personable, they cannot do enough for you! They were the icing on the cake. If you want luxury on your ski holiday...come to Altapura.

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe enjoying 6 months of a snow filled season. We arrived a few days after a good fall and enjoyed a full weeks skiing before the next dump. What a fantastic 2 weeks we had. The runs were long and varied and the numbers of lifts and runs certainly kept us busy each day and we skied every single day. What made our trip however was the fabulous service and experience we had at Altapura. With wonderful cosy rooms, a very well kept spa area and 3 separate places to have dinner It certainly lived up to its recent award as being the Best Luxury Ski hotel in Europe!! It even has its own ski shop and boutique which was very classy. With people like Emily who was in charge who met us when we arrived and all the visitors everyday at breakfast and dinner and always seemed to be around, it is no wonder we felt so welcomed. There was also Julien and his team who looked after all the scrumptious meals in the various restaurants who was always there paying attention and making each guest feel so special. They always remembered the little things that made us feel like family. The entire team were warm, friendly, welcoming and nothing was ever too hard. With the numbers of guests who visit Altapura, I don’t anticipate that Emily or Julien would remember us but we will always remember them and Altapura. This was a special trip celebrating a special occasion and we know there will be many more!! I could not recommend Altapura more!! Enjoy!

This hotel is by far the best place I've ever stayed at both workwise and for holidays. Never met friendlier staff and management, at all times especially to our kids and dog. Nothing we asked for was impossible, they make you feel at home, except they do all the work.
Rooms are cleaned twice a day (fresh towels etcetera), Egyptian cotton sheets on the beds, large towels, bathrobes + slippers in the spa, valet parking with charger for our Tesla and a shuttle service.
Ski from and to hotel, from the ski-shop and walk straight into the lounge or to the terrace for lunch and drinks. Excellent choice of wines, both local and (inter)national. If we didn't finish the bottle, they would keep it for diner or next day.
Even though the Italian a la carte restaurant was closed for renovations, the other two restaurants had plenty to offer for the 5 days we stayed. We booked half board and had a hard time choosing what not to eat as it was all very, very good. In the case you still had special wishes, they would make it for you.

Excellent hotel in the ski town of Val Thorens.
The hotel staff is very friendly, and always ready to help and advise.
The hotel has a wellness center that includes a pool, large whirlpool, gym and sauna rooms. Massages can be booked at an additional cost.
The breakfasts are delicious, at dinner the variety is relatively limited and the dishes are repetitive, and not always done properly.
The hotel's location allows ski in and out, directly from the ski room.
The hotel is a bit far from the town center, but guests have a free shuttle, which helps to get around.
In conclusion, a fun and pampering hotel, highly recommended.

1. I have stayed at Altapura a few times just for weekends when the other 5* hotels in Val T were full or much more expensive.
2. On my last stay, when we checked in we were in a hurry to get out of skis so we collected room keys without providing the passport at checkin, assuming ok to do that a bit later.
2. Whilst in the shower a member of the reception staff let herself into the room and shouted that we had not paid for the room....which was incorrect since we had prepaid at least part of it via booking.com. She did not immediately close the door when seeing my friend standing in a towel trying to get out of the shower.
3. We got dressed and then went down to complete the checkin formalities and the staff were rude and ignored the point that they should not have let themselves into a room and if they did should immediately have left when seeing someone in the shower. Note that they had my car…so no option to leave without paying etc. ….this was just poorly trained staff.
5. Subsequent to that stay I wrote the review below, which I stand by as a reasonable assessment on location and service.
6. However I booked the hotel again since it was cheaper than the other options for this coming weekend and would give them a second chance. The hotel itself is ok…so maybe the staff were just having a bad day.
7. …but got a call from them after I booked asking me about the previous bad review and suggesting to cancel the new reservation or withdraw the review. Given their attitude to feedback I think it was time to stop spending further money with them so I accepted a cancellation and refund.
8. Advice to hotel owners is that you need better management and to streamline your check-in to avoid lengthy waits and confusion. Cancelling repeat bookings due to poor feedback is not a good look…
Original review below:
The location is far away from the centre of Val Thorens so long walk to try other restaurants….which you will want to do since the restaurant in the hotel is mediocre.
Most staff in the hotel are pretty good and helpful but the checkin is slow due to inexperienced staff. Not their fault but management choice to cut costs results in slow service.
Have stayed twice and may do again but there are better options in Val t.

I would give the Hotel 6 stars if I could.
From arrival to departure we were treated like royalty.
We were met at the door and our skis and cases were taken care of immediately.
Our skis were taken from the ski bag and placed in our heated locker next to the automatic sliding door leading straight onto the slopes.
From the door you can ski to the carpet lift for the beginners slopes or you can ski straight down to Les 2 Lacs chair lift which will take you up to a choice of green and blue runs or take the next lift up for access to the whole area.
Small queues with no pushing and shoving made the days enjoyable.
Great choice of mountain restaurants with friendly service.
The hotel is modern, we had a classic room, north facing which was the most reasonable price option.
Good view from the window looking out onto the Plein sud piste.
Our room was spacious with a double room and single room attached.
Plenty of storage space both hanging and drawers.
A full bathroom with shower, double sinks and bath.
There was a good pod coffee machine and kettle.
A mini bar and fridge along with a safe was also in the room.
Fantastic turn down service, every evening we returned to the room to find it prepared just as if we were newly arrived guests every day.
We asked a member of staff which was the best way to get to the town centre, he picked up a set of keys and took us in one of the hotel’s vehicles to wherever we needed to go.
There was a choice of three restaurants, we used the same self service one all week.
The choice and quality of the meals was exceptional, from the salad bar which had a vast choice of meats, fish, pasta and cheeses to the main courses that varied day to day.
We were always welcomed and treated well by efficient and highly trained waiting staff who were knowledgeable and happy to spend time discussing the wines and food.
We used the spa facilities three times during our stay, the slippers and dressing gowns in the room made the experience straightforward with the lift taking us strait to the doors into the spa, something that I appreciated as I don’t like to walk through the hotel foyer in a dressing gown.
We booked the holiday 11 months in advance securing a £200 discount which was welcome as we don’t usually stay in 5 star hotels.
Although this was the most expensive ski trip we have booked the cost is offset by not having to pay extra for ski lockers on the mountain as we did last year and no costs for getting around.
The quality of accommodation, the easy and convenient access to the slopes, along with the variety of runs made this the most enjoyable ski trip I have had (I’ve been skiing for thirty years)

This is a really good hotel… and our second stay here. The staff are ultra courteous and helpful from the concierge, the spa, ski shop and restaurant, however, there are 2 small things that just detract from it being almost perfect. Firstly you cannot get served in the bar in anything close to an acceptable timeframe, you have to go to the bar and harass the already busy and very courteous bar staff, eventually they get to you, it’s not their fault, there just aren’t enough of them. I don’t think it’s acceptable for a 5* hotel to have this level of bar service. Secondly the evening buffet in the restaurant is just poor in respect of choice and service for a hotel of this standard. I complained about this to the concierge the morning after we dined because I was too tired to do so on the actual evening, I also had my youngest Son with me and didn’t want to cause any unnecessary discomfort for him. I emailed my complaint before breakfast and I was confronted by the restaurant manager as I was ordering my omelette in the breakfast dining room 90 mins after I sent my email. She came over to me and said “what is your room number?” When I told her she said “I was forwarded your email and I’ll speak to the staff about it”, this was very uncomfortable as there were other diners in earshot and completely unacceptable… I still haven’t heard back from her or the hotel about my complaint, again this isn’t what 5* hotels are about.
All this said it’s a wonderful hotel and a superb location, however I don’t think we’ll be coming back, there are better hotels in Val Thorens.

The service was outstanding and the food was great. The staff helped with everything we needed and the buffet changed every day with chefs standing ready to serve you. Further you could go eat in the two other restaurants at the hotel as well. We had half board and could eat for 62€ a day per person.
Highly recommended and will definitely considering coming back!

I would like to thank Altapura for making our Val Thorens honeymoon very special indeed! We have been to the hotel on previous occasions but this time it was extra special thanks to Emilie Pajevic & the lovely front of house staff. Especially the lady who checked us in and helped us during our stay and unfortunately i do not recall her name. You can't miss her though she is the lady always smiling at the reception desk!
The hotel was impeccable and we cannot wait to return again. Although it is located a little outside the center it is still ski in, ski out and we never waited too long for the car/bus into the center at night. The pool and spa area is great and a must after long days skiing. We also had a couples massage which was excellent.
If you really want to treat yourself this hotel is a must. We first visited Val Thorens 15 years ago now and have tried a fair few of the older hotels. I did want to try some of the newer hotels but i cannot bring myself to when Altapura keep improving each time we stay. Thanks to everyone there and hopefully we will return again soon!

We stayed from the 4th to the 11th March, This was our 4th stay at Altapura after having an enforced break of a few years due to covid etc and it did not disappoint. Without doubt this is one of our favourite hotels we stay in and we travel extensively .After a long drive from the UK we were welcomed on arrival by the valet's, who took all our bags and skis , we were then warmly welcomed by the staff , our previous stays were recognised and acknowledged and the check in was swift and pleasant.
We were shown to our superb junior suite and everything was explained. The view from the balcony out over the resort was superb . All the staff were extremely friendly, from the cleaners (who do a fantastic job) to the upper management, everyone has time for you and wants to ensure that you have the best possible stay . the restaurant is superb and the restaurant staff deserve a special thanks. We ate in the restaurant every evening and the food was varied catering for every taste.
As highlighted we have stayed at the Altapura several times and the high quality of service and attention to detail remains. We were also treated to several lovely gifts on our departure which was a lovely touch.
i would have no hesitation in recommending the Altapura for your stay in Val Thorens, your only regret is that you didnt book it sooner.
Our thanks to all the staff that made our stay special, look forward to returning in 2023

We’ve used Cool Runnings for 4 years in a row - they’re excellent. Good drivers (all Brits so far for us), good vehicles with plenty of space for luggage and skis/boards, on time. Well, mostly: in 2017 sudden snowfall and a few crashes on the road to VT meant we missed our train home, but that wasn’t our driver’s fault - he did his best to take a detour (Eurostar were great, btw and hooked us up with a TGV to Paris for little extra cost).
Our run has always been from Moutiers for the Eurostar Ski train, but they also do airport transfers. Tripadvisor blocks postings that include urls for companies, but just search for ‘Cool Runnings val thorens transfers’ and you’ll find them easily.
