I stayed in this hotel for a week in July 2021 while attending a snowboarding camp. The hotel has an amazing outdoor pool, overlooking the alps and a jacuzzi. I could not help but spending every single afternoon there, as the experience is just unmatched. I will add pictures so you guys can see for yourself. Hotel restaurant has a Michelin recognition and I have heard from other guests that dinners were delicious, although I haven’t tried them myself. As for the breakfast, the choices varied from a choice of ham and cheeses (I personally don’t eat ham so can’t comment on the quality of it), homemade yogurt (yum), a variety of fruits, homemade jams, French pastries and egg (only boiled option). The best part about the hotel is staff. Everyone, including the owners, would go out of their way to cater to your needs whatever they are. I would like to personally thank Carolyne for always being there to answer my questions and concerns. She is bilingual and since I don’t speak much French, this factor was very important for me. I stayed in a single room with a bathtub and a balcony, overlooking the slopes. If I were to pick a view, I’d probably go for the pool view, as it just has a wider angle of the alps. Note that there is no mini fridge in the room, so if you’d like to buy cheese for example, ask the staff to put it in the hotel fridge. I would recommend this hotel to solo travelers like me, as well, as to the couples and families. I’m winter it offers ski in/ski out, which saves lots of time and energy.

We had a very pleasant short-ski stay in ‘Le Souleil’Or’. The hotel is very well located, staff are friendly and the restaurant is excellent. We definitely consider to come back next year!
One minor remark: our room was situated just above the night entrance, where also a smoking corner is situated. The result was that the smell of cigarettes came into our room.

We stayed at the hotel Souleil ‘Or for 7 nights in March 2006, booked directly with the hotel.
The hotel was very well managed and the service by all staff was very polite and professional.
The excellent evening meals were 4 or 5 courses from a set menu (with an occasional buffet course) and breakfast was a well presented buffet.
The public areas, reception, lounge, bar and restaurant were all clean and well maintained.
Our 3 bedded room had 2 single beds in the main bedroom area, a separate single bed in the entrance to the room, TV and a south facing balcony. There was enough room and storage space for 3 people. Although simply furnished, the room was very clean, comfortable and the bathroom seems to have been recently refurbished.
Ski lockers were provided on the ground floor.
The hotel is located at the foot of the ski slopes and whilst we were there, it was possible to ski back to the hotel.
There is a chair lift and drag lift close to the hotel (just behind the car park) giving immediate access to the ski area.
Although the hotel web site shows an ESF ski school meeting place close to the hotel, during 2006, this only appeared to be for lessons in French and the ESF ski school meeting place for lessons in English was near the Jandri Express lift, about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
We booked our lift passes on line through the tourist office web site and these were delivered to the hotel before we arrived. I booked my daughters ski lessons on the ESF web site and the combined 6 day lessons and 6 day lift pass package was cheaper than the lessons and lift pass separately. We skied for 7 days, so I just bought her a separate day ticket on the last day.
To summarise, a great hotel in an excellent location for skiing.

Fresh and nice hotel. It is newly renovated and close to the lifts.
Hotel rooms are small and fresh. Very good wifi made that with suffiient speed for Netflix is good for snowy day.
For some reason they have employed an angry and unfriendly waitress and host. She just hates the clients and avoids any friendly support. In particular if you are travelling in a package deal where she points out that we should have worse quality than other guests meaning that we are not allowed to eat with other guests.

We stayed here for 7 nights for a summer skiing/mountain biking and general relaxation holiday. We booked it after careful consideration of all the reviews, value for money, location etc. Our first impression, pre-holiday, was very good as we enquired about when payment would be taken (booking.com suggested 7 days before arrival which isn't the case). I had seen a special offer with the hotel directly for a superior room for less than the standard rate we'd booked for several months before. I asked for an upgrade and this was agreed for no extra cost.
Room: The room (27 - on the 3rd floor opposite the lift; overlooking the mountains with a side view of the pool) was wonderful. The attention to detail is amazing - matching his and her teddies, alpine style, very large, a bench to sit on for getting gear on which opens up as storage, two other wardrobe storage areas, a safe. a large cupboard either side of the bed, a desk, a pretty table and chairs and deckchairs on the large balcony, as well as drawers under the tv. There is no kettle or tea tray which would have been good (we had our own anyway), but slippers and robes were provided. We had a bath, although this was very small, with a shower above it. It was awkward getting in and out and we had to hang on to the towel rail which was about level with the end of the bath with walls either side of the bath. The toilet is separate. There is no air con, but we had the balcony door open at night which gave enough breeze. Unfortunately, though, on the last couple of days the new neighbours smoked and the smoke came straight into our room. It is stated to be a strictly no-smoking hotel, yet smoking seems to be encouraged on the balcony as there is an ashtray provided. This does not make it comfortable for other guests with doors open or trying to get some fresh mountain air on the balcony. Smoking should only be allowed in the downstairs, outside smoking area.
Food: Breakfast was served between 7 and 9.30. This was fine for us as we didn't want to get on the mountain at 7 when the lifts open, but for any guests who did this wouldn't be a suitable time, although maybe arrangements could have been made with the staff - I don't know. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice of cold, continental food. There was an egg boiler. The restaurant is comfortable and overlooks the pool. I think it may have been possible to eat outside, but I'm not sure. We only had lunch in the hotel once - panini and fries with salad. The portions were huge and would be suitable for a light lunch for two people. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening as I have food allergies and a lot of the food would have been unsuitable, but other reviews say the food is amazing and we would have tried it if I didn't have to be so careful with what I eat and worried about ensuring my French (or English!) was sufficiently understood. We ate at Le Grange one night (delicious) and then found Le Spot at the Venosc end of the resort which was so amazing we ate there the rest of the time.
Facilities: The interior of the hotel is beautiful and comfortable. There are lots of different areas to relax and have a drink. We really enjoyed having drinks brought out to us by the lovely waiter as we sat by the pool. The martini/prosecco/orange juice cocktail was delicious. The pool itself is an L shaped infinity pool heated to 30 degrees. The deep end is quite deep (probably around 6.5 - 7 feet). The backdrop of the mountains when resting at the end of the pool is simply stunning. There is an outside jacuzzi which is heated to around 37 degrees. There are comfy sun loungers and parasols. Inside there is another jacuzzi and steam room - you need to ask reception for the steam room to be switched on, but it only takes about 20 minutes. At the start of the stay each guest is given a pool towel token. At the end of the stay the token or a towel needs to be given back or a fine is charged, which is fully appreciated as the towels are lovely - really large and fluffy.
Staff: The waiter was always lovely and smiley and helpful, bringing drinks to us. The downside mentioned in the title of my review, and the reason for only 4 stars instead of 5, is that the owner and his wife and sometimes the lady at breakfast made us feel uncomfortable. They didn't smile. I know that often in reviews other people will say that it's the guests themselves, but we were always friendly, spoke French to them (my French isn't great, but it's sufficient) and there was no reason for the discomfort. It was as if the owner and his wife were having some sort of problem with each other and weren't happy themselves. We only saw them talking to each other once! Perhaps this then rubbed off on the other staff. The male owner wasn't in any way rude, but we just weren't made to feel comfortable as we have been in the majority of hotels we stay in, even chain budget ones. The female owner, however, was quite discourteous to us at check out. She was on the telephone when we went to check out, but the telephone call went on for a very long time (perhaps 10 minutes in all). At one point she waved her hand at us in a dismissive way and when the call ended she looked down at the floor, muttered a few things in French (including je suis desolé - I'm sorry), but it didn't feel like it was genuine at all and she knows we are English and there's a big sign saying "We speak English". I had, however, been speaking French as much as I could so it's appreciated that she would perhaps speak French to me. However, on an earlier day when we didn't have any towels in the room (the maids were wonderful and the rooms kept immaculate - this was just an oversight) I spoke in French as best I could, but she could tell I was struggling, but made no effort to assist me with explaining what the problem was. We were very concerned that the maids responsible would get into trouble - unfortunately this was how we were made to feel. However, I really wouldn't let this put anyone off the hotel as, overall, it really is superb and perhaps we just got the staff on a bad week. I'm writing the issues in the review constructively and I would like them to be taken that way by the owners as we would like to return, but would probably try somewhere else as we do like to feel welcomed and not uncomfortable.
Area: For a summer activity holiday the area is amazing. The hotel is located a little away from the main gondola and we decided to pay to store our equipment near to the gondola station as it was very hot weather and too much to walk back with gear on and carrying equipment. The hotel has a very good ski locker area, however. There is also a bike garage. Skiing is from 7 - 12.30 each day. The views are incredible, but the skiing is very different to winter. I can ski French reds in winter, but I struggled with the blues in summer. The lower pistes are very heavy and sticky and I had to take my skis off in some points plus I slipped/fell more than usual. The main glacier slopes were mainly taken up with race training during the week and even the quiet slope was full of racers. The first T-bar is very long and there is a stream running through it meaning there is a deep hole to contend with. We didn't know until ski day 3 that there is a funicular to take you up to the top. Don't be confused between the lift (acsensur) and funicular as they are different. You can take the funicular down, too. This isn't even the top of the mountain! We didn't go to the top as there's quite a steep uphill to contend with to get to the t-bar to take you to the top and, with the altitude being a problem for us in the heat, we just stayed a bit lower down. Those slopes were, however, incredibly icy with the stream itself being a problem - so summer skiing is probably more for the very good skiiers or those who are brave enough to contend with ice. Also being very fit would help! However, for a fun morning with fantastic views it's highly recommended - even if you just walk up there. Mountain biking is also for those who are experienced - it isn't like the biking I've experienced in England. Even the easiest green has burms and obstacles. There are biking schools there, however, and I decided to have a private lesson which was great fun - 3 hours teaching me the skills then going down the vallee blanche green. I could then tackle most of it myself the next day although I did walk some of the trickier parts. I strongly suggest wearing all of the gear, including the full faced helmet, as it is steep, even on the greens. We didn't do a lot of walking, but on the last day we walked to the Venosc gondola and took this down into the valley and walked around there - there are forest walks, waterfalls to see etc - it is amazing.

Dear lmcosts, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at Le Souleil’Or and write such a long and detailed comment. We are glad to hear that overall you appreciated your stay and the upgrade to a superior room we offered you. Still, you seemed a bit unsure that we did our best to provide you with an excellent and memorable stay, so we thought we would give you an answer point by point. Room: Your room was indeed one of our nicest, the superior rooms with a South-facing balcony. Smoking on balconies is not encouraged at all but the French laws, as they are today, allow smoking on balconies and terraces. Hence, we do provide ashtrays to avoid cigarette butts to be carelessly discarded in our beautiful landscapes. We are very sorry that the next door guests were smoking on their balcony and that it incommoded you, but unfortunately, they were well within their rights. Moreover, after you checked out we read your satisfaction questionary, in which you also mentioned this issue. We then had a word with them and they said they hadn’t realised that the smoke was coming your way and that it caused you some inconvenience. Regarding the bathroom, some of our rooms have been renovated and are now equipped with a shower instead of a bathtub, you can request it on a future reservation. Food: We were sorry to read that you hesitated to have dinner at our restaurant because our chef is renowned for his excellent cuisine. We often receive people with allergies or intolerances and have always been able to provide them with the wright type of dishes. A list of all allergens contained in our different dishes (in French and English) was available for you to read and we would have been happy to modify some of them if necessary. Facilities: We are very glad to hear that you liked the swimming pool and the spa area. Staff: As a member of the staff I can assure you that there are no ongoing pressure/problems coming from either of the managers. They even contribute to keep up good relationships inside our group. We are sorry that you perceived it differently. On the day you left, the manager was indeed on the phone when you came to check out. We were having a software malfunction and she was solving it with our maintenance centre over the phone. Unfortunately, she made the conversation as short as possible but could not hang up straightaway… Regarding our cleaning staff, do not worry, they didn’t get in trouble. Our maids have been doing such an excellent job for several years that we trust they are doing their best every day and do not blame them when they (hardly ever) make a mistake or forget something. At last, as you said you took very great care before booking your stay, regarding the reviews and the value for money, we have one last tip for your potential next stay with us at Le Souleil’Or: you can save at least 10% on your stay, all year-round, by booking directly through our hotel’s website. We selected Le Soleil d'Or after visiting the restaurant and sun terrace on a previous visit. The hotel is a superior quality establishment for its class and its position next to the slopes is unparalleled. If you have children, you could not wish for more convenience and the rooms and food are first rate.
So what's the catch? Well, to stay there, you'd better either be French or have absorbed that whole Peter Mayle "Year in Provence" thing so that you are really into the Gallic approach to hospitality. Fortunately, my wife is bilingual because no effort whatsoever was made to communicate in English to me or the children. The service was formal and polite in the usual spirit of egalite and all that but I got the impression that most of the hotel was populated by Francophone regulars from France and Belgium and we were kind of inconveniently intruding on a family event.
A lot of people are going to really like this hotel and will be delighted to escape the prepackaged standard offer and the loud, in-your-face English invasion of other resorts. But take along your cultural awareness, an extensive phrasebook or translator and sense of humour.

Had a long weekend here and found it an average place, but very friendly staff. 5 min walk to the main ski lift and a nice hammam+jacuzzi for apres ski. The rooms are a bit dated and although we paid extra for a room with a mountain view, most of it was overlooking the car park (not the best). The breakfast, however, was very nice and the fresh baguettes were excellent. Husband enjoyed the do-it-yourself egg boiler.

1) We booked a superior double with mountain views and were not disappointed. These rooms are on the fourth floor (the lift only goes to the third floor which wasn't a problem for us). The rooms are comfortable and I slept without ear-plugs which is my usual bench mark. The views from the balcony are stunning.
2) Parking by the hotel (in the summer) was not a problem (don't bother paying for paking as is suggested on some web sites we saw).
3) Bike storage is spacious and secure.
4) The hotel pool was very welcoming after a day's mountain biking; pool was heated to 30 degrees; not huge but stunning views and right by the trail.
5) The hotel is a short walk from restaurants and bars, off the drunks' route home so nice and quiet.
6) Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Our only gripe was that the waitress, when clearing a table, simply tipped uneaten food items onto the table cloth, cleared the cups/plates, then returned and swooped the table cloth away; the left-overs were a little unsightly simply left for a few minutes.
7) The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The receptionist explained everything in English on arrival and showed us where the bike storage / back door was.
We will definitely be returning to this hotel next year and only wish we had stayed longer on this visit.

We had the standard room booked for half board and it was perfect: the balcony looked directly on to the slopes and the room had plenty of space for our Labrador, who was made as welcome as we were. The staff were lovely, and the food simply exceptional. They also catered brilliantly and thoughtfully for my partner who does not eat meat. It was fantastic.

I stayed here in February for a week with four friends and we all enjoyed our stay. The location for the slopes is brilliant and truly is ski in and ski out, with a lift right next door to the hotel. Rooms were comfortable, not masses of room, but suitable for two sharing. Food was first class, and would recommend booking the half board option. Breakfast was good with the usual breads, fruits and cold meats available. Evening dinner was usually four course and although a set meal, if there was something that you didn't care for, they gave you a nice alternative. Good quality and pleasantly served by the waiting staff. Twice a week there was a singer in the bar, but due to French law, if he was deemed too loud, then he was instructed to finish. Shame really because he created a good atmosphere in the bar. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for location, comfort, quality of food. Would I stay here again.......yes!

L'école de ski n'est vraiment pas très loin de l'hôtel à pied entre 5 et 10 mn à peine de marche.
Elle se trouve près du départ du grand télécabine du Jandri.
