Detailed Reviews
We’ve just completed our stay at the Hotel Chamois d’or.
From the start we were warmly welcomed by the staff who came out to greet us at the car when we arrived.
We had a family room where the kids had their own room with en-suite and bunk beds. Our bathroom had a bath.
The bedding is sumptuous and we also had a sunny balcony.
We stayed half board and the evening five course meal was always stunning!
It is a ski out, ski in hotel right at the start of the piste closest to the les Jeux and DMC lifts. Easy to use ski room although the boot warmers weren’t working.
Also a gorgeous swimming pool with steam room and sauna.
We’ll definitely visit again!
Thank you to all the staff :)

Took my two sons for a week ski trip. The service from all the friendly staff was extremely good. Genuine caring people who really went the extra mile to make it special. The spa offers exactly what you need, massage, jacuzzi, sauna, steam and pool with fluffy robes and slippers. The lounge is a lovely dimly lit area with huge comfy sofas and large open fireplace. Location is perfect right at the bottom of the main DMC1 ski lift with ski-in right to the ski lockers. Every little detail has been thought through by people who care. Best hotel and people in Alpes D’Huez in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Our comfortable room with balcony was great, the warm decoration brings a very "cocooning" atmosphere. The recently renovated bathroom perfectly combines the modern with the chalet atmosphere. The only constructive remark is that the shower lacks a soap stand (we have to put our products on the ground which can be a great inconvenience for elderly people).
Breakfast is varied, with very good bread and freshly squeezed orange juice very appreciable. Can set up a small corner where you can highlight local products.
We also had a great time relaxing in the “Spa” area
The only downside for our stay is the restaurant, the services are not up to the standard of the establishment. The dishes are disconcertingly simple, there is nothing transcendent as we would expect from an establishment of this quality. My companion took a pork chop that seemed more boiled than seared in the pan (very white meat without traces of "grid") with potatoes cooked in water since probably the same morning. I had a burger (very good ) but with fries that are not even homemade and whose cooking leaves something to be desired (not very crispy).
Otherwise a special mention to all the Pension staff very welcoming and considerate, and a big thank you to the room staff whose cleaning is impeccable.

This Pension, which claims the 5-star category, just corresponds to a 3-star
Regarding the room we have reserved, called "privilege", with balcony and mountain view:
Upon arrival, we asked, for personal convenience, to be accommodated in a room in which the bed faces North or East (it is very unpleasant for someone very sensitive to sleep in a bed that does not respect this provision)!!
The toilet is tiny, very difficult to access considering the direction of opening of the door. A mini-bar would be nice, it's very surprising that there isn't one in a 5-star. Better soundproofing of external noise is required. The pleasant decoration of the room is not enough to offer the comfort expected of a 5-star Pension.
Breakfast: it is a pity that the ingredients offered are not highlighted (mispresentation), that the mini-pastries are frozen past in the oven. The only positive is finding freshly squeezed orange juice.
To highlight the pleasant SPA and indoor pool, although the Jacuzzi did not work completely.
The restaurant (lamentable): on the evening menu, is proposed, among other things, a "trout of our region", that was what caught my attention. Before ordering, I sought some clarification from the waitress who apparently did not appreciate my request. She tried, firmly, to explain to me that in fact it was not a whole fish that was being served, but a "slab of trout". It is curious to say the least considering that a regional trout is not a big fish ? ? so I took the option to order a "chicken supreme". After an hour of patience, still nothing. I then came forward courteously to the waitress, she became downright unpleasant and still served us 10 minutes later.
This chicken (3 small pieces) was bathed in a brownish sauce with some morel chips supernatant on a rice that was not pilaf.
My girlfriend chose a "summer salad." We will never know with what oil (in quantity) it had been prepared. Completely insiplide and bad.
Before leaving the restaurant, a gentleman who did not show up asked me if we had dinner well; I told him of my very great disappointment, in response he thanked me for choosing the establishment. Is that more than contemptuous of this character who is probably in charge of this Pension?
In fact this restaurant is to be classified in the category of roadside restaurants, and it is not derogatory, there are very good roadside restaurants.
Accustomed to frequenting hotel establishments all over the world for a long time, until this lamentable experience, we must unfortunately note that it happened to us in France. "COCORICO"

Speaking from experience is somewhat excessive... since we won't be going... however I know this establishment having gone there a few years ago.
Following a serious ENT problem I found myself obliged to give up my reservation for an upcoming weekend, as any stay at high altitude was prohibited. I immediately notified the hotel (ten days before) asking, not for a refund, since I had unfortunately chosen a non-cancelable offer, but for a credit since the hotel was ending its season at the end of August. It was refused to me outright, based on an enigmatic explanation: since Covid we no longer do it... We can find this response curious and to say the least excessive, first of all, the room could be re-rented in view of the deadline left to the hotelier, then leaving a credit for the winter season could only have a positive effect since it would necessarily have been necessary to largely supplement the said credit for an identical rental... this reaction seems to me, to say the least, cavalier and very uncommercial… It is true that this hotel has long enjoyed a very good reputation…. Not sure it will last and it will be very regrettable!

I booked as a last minute booking whilst on a driving trip with my 10 year old son, and had the pleasure of staying 2 nights. Fantastic location beside a variety of ski slopes and scenic mountain views. Although we don’t ski, we had great fun on hired sledges. The rooms were cosy, clean and well decorated. There’s a relaxing spa with pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room (had a lovely massage!). The evening food choices in the restaurant were limited but tasted great (we liked the entrecôte steak); not sure why some reviewers grumbled about the food? Breakfast had a small but satisfactory selection. Best of all, the service from all staff members was great, every one went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. We look forward to visiting again!

Very nice old Pension, in its pure Alpine juice with large predominance of wood.
Our Beginner Suite "Hugo" in light wood, spreads a beautiful area of about 50+ m2 with its own fireplace; benefits from a beautiful terrace with a nice view, and has a small interior floor with 2 beds for children (mezzanine).
Breakfast is good, with a wide choice on the buffet tables.
The restaurant is open in summer but only for dinners, 6 days a week, it is also good.
The chef is warm, and at our request we prepared a succulent rack of lamb with garlic from the bears! Just a little word about dessert and more specifically the one entirely based on chocolate that I consider irresistible!
Friendly welcome at the bar with excellent and original cocktails.
We really feel good in this very warm Pension which benefits from a large terrace and a garden where you can practice pétanque and badminton. There is also a small room dedicated to table tennis and table football.
Director Ugo Joubert is omnipresent, takes the time to chat and really cares about the well-being of his guests, as does his team: Claire, Max, the bartender, etc.
One or two small points of improvement: the evening service in the room that only spends surprisingly 6 evenings a week; the wait during dinner which can be long and which would require to remedy it one more person in the room.... Nothing very serious.
In summary, we leave, after our stay of more than 2 weeks with nostalgia and regret!

Lovely hotel, beautiful rooms. It is possible for families to connect 2 separate rooms so that children are not separated via the hall but still have their own room. Nice restaurant, delicious breakfast, friendly employees

The Inn is quiet, the interior very warm wood (but the sound insulation is medium, we were woken by the children of the rooms yet not neighboring crying) and the welcome at the top.
The breakfast very varied and good quality, the spa is nice (jacuzzi without the bubbles that must have broken down?).
A beautiful place that deserves to stay, with a secure garage available for bikes.
