Detailed Reviews
Firstly Alpe d'Heuz is not the place to go if you are looking for a lively apres ski scene.
The Chalet is well located, although not ski in-ski out it is just a short walk, either up hill or down hill to a ski lift. The hotel has three floors, I was on the top (eves room) which was quiet, only one other guest room on the floor. Friends were on the lower floor and noise can be heard from the basement bar but that kind of depends on how tired/how many drinks you've had. My room (sleeping 3) was spacious but only one small open wardrobe available. No mod cons, no TV, no radio, no drinks facilities, just beds. The bathroom was clean but the shower tray did not flow away and you ended up standing in water, (hopefully your own but sometimes your mates as it took so long to drain away).
Food was on the whole good. Breakfast was cereal, yogurts, bread, croissants, tea/coffee with a hot option to follow, bacon, sausage etc. The portion sizes are not going to blow you away and I filled up with bread most meals to be honest. The dinners are three courses, and mainly were of good standard apart from one block of lasagne one night. Wine was flowing throughout and never ran out (white or red) and our group had a few thirsty people in it.
The boot room is small with old shared lockers - there were six people in the 2 rooms sharing ours for a space which was not more than 2ft x 1.5ft.
The resort is strange. I have never queued so much anyone I have been over 15 years skiing/boarding. The main lifts at the bottom of the slopes are hectic at all times of the day. Slightly better the higher you go but still queues persist. The lift pass does cover a decent area with an option of Les Deux Alpes or Serre Chevalier for a day. However even with all these people come apres ski time and everyone vanishes. Apres ski is a non starter, full stop. No mountain bars, no bars at the end of the slopes. We ended up at the Sphere Bar almost everyday (underneath the hotel) but this had almost no atmosphere when it should have been rocking, There were several drinks promotions which appealed but to stomach the lager we ended up adding peach cordial to it (the bar mans suggestion!). A few other bars in the resort were tried, O'Sharkeys only redeeming feature was a pool table. The Underground bar was probably the best out of a bad bunch. I could go on but I guess you get the idea.
Would I go back to Alpe d'Huez - no. Would I recommend it to others - no.

We booked with Crystal Ski for 1 week staying in Chalet Les Bruyeres from 16/01/16-23/01/16.
This was our first time staying in a Chalet and as many other reviewers on here we weren't too sure what to expect (despite my partner working in Alpe'dhuez) however we were pleasantly surprised.
We arrived around half 1 in the afternoon and we were greeted by the Chalet manager Helen who was welcoming and friendly. She gave us basic information (e.g code for front door and door code for coming back upstairs from ski lockers) and evening meal time, though don't worry if you can't retain this information as the staff are around during the arrival day and they do repeat this information and more on the first evening meal which is the day you arrive.
We were then given the key to our room, which had two keys one for the room and one for our ski locker. We were in room 101, I was slightly worried about this as it's only just above the bar with the dining area and lounge in between however the evening music (from the bar below the chalet sphere) although I could hear it, I found I heard it more at around half 5/6pm than I did when we went to bed around 10/11pm (though that could have something to do with the Chalet wine). First impressions of our room was very basic, but that is all you need. I was slightly worried about their being one radiator in the room however it's very efficient, our room did get quite hot, quite quickly. Everything was clean and tidy. There two clean towels on the bed when we first arrived. I would advise bring your own as they're small. Bathroom was perfectly fine, only problem was the water didn't always stay hot in the shower but didn't really matter at all.
In the rest of the chalet, again everything was clean and tidy, the lounge and dining area always clean. The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for you.
There is a welcome meeting on Sunday and our rep was Sara, very informative and friendly.
Food: I'm not a fussy eater really and neither is my partner, however we were both a bit dubious as to what the food would be, whether we would enjoy etc, there was no menu up for the week though I'm sure you could ask any of the friendly staff. We had 3 courses every night apart from Tuesday which is Chalet night off and Friday when it is five courses. The food was fantastic, the chef really did well every night was delicious and we actually tried a lot of new food. Breakfast was great too, typical continental breakfast (croissants, pan au chocolates, cereals, baguettes, cold meats) and there was a different hot option every day. Although we never had the hot option, it always looked lovely and everyone said it was really good. I do believe they had tea and cakes in the afternoon after skiing around half 3/4 though we would usually opt for a beer in a bar.
SKIIING: My partner had his own ski's and equipment so I was the only one who had to hire, found this extremely easy as the ski set shop is on the same road, about a minutes walk from the chalet! The guys in the shop were so helpful, measured my feet. I did book a package in which I got equipment and lessons all for one price however a helmet was not included in that price so I booked one separately and paid extra (I would strongly advise doing this!). Once we got back to the chalet we went to put the ski's in the locker. Now over our holiday this is probably the only problem we encountered and to be perfectly honest it's a very minor one but I should mention it.
There are two rooms to every locker, yes they are small and it is tricky to get everyone's things in there, especially if there is more than two people in one room . I would say try it first before you start lugging your stuff back and forth to your room. The main problem we had with our locker was the lock jammed. It first happened when we arrived, which wasn't a problem. However it happened on my second day of ski school meaning I missed the skiing lesson. Although they sorted it we decided not to risk it and took our stuff off in the locker room and just carted it up to our room. Yes its not the best after a long day out on the slopes, but at least we would get out there without any hassle. This also did only happen to us, and as far as I'm aware they were going to look into the lock.
I booked ski lessons through crystal like I mentioned. The ski school is by sort of "lollipop" stands by the DMC gondola lift. To get up there you simply take the "bucket lift" or lobster lift up to the main part. It's really easy to get there as it's just to the right of the chalet and doesn't take long to get up to the main skiing area at all. Crystal reps are there to help on your first day. My lessons were with ESF ski school who I believe pretty much have the monopoly when it comes to ski lessons in France. I had skied one week previous a year before in Bulgaria and was put into level one. It may just have been my group but I found this group seemed more advanced at skiing than myself, so I did ask to be moved down to a beginner group and I am more than happy that I did. ESF have no problem whatsoever with people moving up or down groups and I found myself in the more the capable hands of Andre. He was a fantastic teacher, very humorous but was serious and caring when needed. I only had 3 days skiing with Andre and I felt like I did progress in skiing and gain confidence with him.
I would highly reccomend the ESF ski school for lessons.
OTHER: There is quite a bit to see and do around the resort, you can go night sledging on a Thursday at 5:30pm, they open one of the lifts to the right of the sports centre. You only pay for the hire of your sledges which is great. You also have the ice rink and swimming pool, unfortunately we didn't use these, but I wish we had. If you fancy getting off the slopes a little earlier, you get free entry to these with your lift pass. There are lots of shops in the town, lovely sweet shops, Ripcurl and other clothing and sports shops. Of course there are bars and restaurants too! Would highly recommend Smithies for food on the Chalet night off, though the portions are big, the food is delicious.
Would really recommend Alpe'dhuez as a resort, lots of lovely runs and other things to do and also would recommend this chalet. Having never stayed in one before I know we would certainly consider it again (though I believe this is mainly down to the brilliant staff we had!)

The staff were lovely, very friendly, helpful and hardworkng.
Sam the chef produced lots of variation from the limited budget, best was the Beef Bourguignon on day 1, Other main courses were lasagne, chicken pie with blue cheese sauce, chicken risotto, tartiflette. Examples of starters were soup or spicy prawns. Desserts were hearty. Afternoon cakes were lovely.
You could get a packed lunch for a very cheap €5, including a large baguette, a drink, cake or fruit and crisps. Since the weather was very good you could sit out anywhere and enjoy the views with your picnic.
There was very loud music from the bar/club in the basement on one night in the whole week, from about 12 to 1.30 am, which nobody else seemed to mind. I suppose it could have been worse if it had been every night. Or perhaps you just have to join in!

A very good experience. A small hotel (14 rooms) charming and simple. The availability and friendliness of the entire team, the room (203) was very clean, including the bathroom. No fuss in terms of decoration. A superb view. The breakfast nothing to say. Note that it is served from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and generally there is nothing left after 9:30 a.m. Here the staff provided food until 10:00 a.m. Very rare these days! Also very well placed in the station. I recommend and if we come back to the Alps one day we will stay at Les Bruyeres again.

Very clean hotel, great breakfast but average bedding and pillows.
On the other hand, I should have looked at the comments before booking because the bar that you don't see when you arrive is part of the hotel and it seems that parties are frequent.
We were not informed when booking that there would be a musical evening at the bar for New Year's Eve. When we returned to the hotel after the restaurant, we were surprised by the noise that came from the bar and I do not think that the hotel guests present that evening were warned or participated.
The evening ended at 6 a.m. after having to endure the bass of the sound system all night!
It’s a shame and not professional at all to want to take it on all fronts.

Well where should I start!
Staff
The staff are all amazing so helpful hardworking and fun! The rep Kristina ia also fantastic and very helpful!
Location
Fantastic location just near the lobster pot lift to the main area slopes. This resort has amazing skiing and I cant recommend ESF enough (ask for Claude M)
Rooms
Are basic but clean with 1 towel change a week and they didnt hoover every day but that didnt bother us. There are no hairdryers in the rooms. We had a lovely view of the mountains from our room.
Food
Well what can I say but excellent and by far the best we have had in a catered chalet. Fantastic menu and great portion sizes just what you need before and after a hard (or easy!) days skiing. The chef did an amazing job catering for so many people and to a very high standard.
Facilities
Small reception and they do have a boot room but you share a locker with another room so not enough room to fit skiis and boots in. So we took our boots to our room.
Lounge a little small for the size of the chalet but adequate.
Bar below is a little noisy but your on your holidays so if you cant beat them join them!
Resort
Again Alpe D'huez is amazing the only realy criticism of this property is that it is very icy to te road and up a slope so is very dangerous and IMO should be cleared for the guests safety.
Eating out
Lunchtimes
Beau Solieau on the bottom of the slopes by les Jeux lift. Good food low prices very good value for money
Genepi
Fantastic restaurant - make sure you book for Chalet night off as its very busy and they were turning hoards away when we were there.
Panones.
Just below Bruyeres to the chalet does amazing pizza and not to expensive
Chicken Roll (down to the street on the left near the swimming pool) looks like a little cafe but again does the best pizzas we have tasted for a while!
All in all a fantastic holiday where we met some truly lovely people and will be back!

Having read the older reviews before travelling I was a bit concerned, but overall we were satisfied that we got the holiday we'd paid for. Becci the chalet host was friendly and seems to have sorted out most of previously mentioned problems. The lockers are a bit small, and the ice outside not always cleared. The food was good. We had a great holiday.

After reading previous reviews I was slightly worried but there was no need to be.
Yes you can hear the music from the Sphere bar but only just. Great location for shops and bars and only 50 meters away to the "Lobster pot" which takes you to the lifts (5 min walk to the lifts)
Warm and clean Chalet and found the staff all very helpful. For the price paid it's a bargain.. I've paid double for not much better.

I won't bang on about the rooms and location as its all been well documented, the downside of the location is the noise, as mentioned it is right above a bar and it is very noisy. The food was excellent quality but i found the portions quite small but i am a big eater, the wine was always topped up and plentiful and the quality was okay.
The boot room is pretty rubbish compared others i have seen in the past.
The staff were fantastic, they worked very hard and were very friendly.
All in all this is a warm friendly budget hotel in a great location with a fantastic ski area on the doorstep.

I always say, you get what you pay for; but in this case, I felt we got more! Chalet Le Bruyeres is not a luxury chalet, it doesn't claim to be. It is what it is, a perfectly decent, clean, warm and well run chalet. The food was much appreciated after a day on the piste, I found the portions generous but some in our crowd did ask for seconds! The staff are friendly, helpful and not intrusive. The room was comfortable and warm, and on the top floor we were not disturbed by the lively bar downstairs, which we were well aware of when we booked; don't book this place if you want a quiet place and an early night. We couldn't have been more happy with this Chalet.
Alpe D'Huez as a resort has everything you need for a skiing/boarding holiday; mountains! A variety of runs to suit all needs, we didn't encounter queues as mentioned previously, in fact we found in all 18 years of skiing, the queues to be minimal.
Would I recommend this Chalet and this resort - needless to say, I would. Just do your homework first!
