This restaurant is run by an Belgian couple and offers good quality food. The menu is not very extensive but the dishes are very tasty and well prepared. The Bordeaux wine we had for diner was of great quality. The service is very friendly and efficiënt. Overal I would say the price quality relation for both food and wines is extraordinary good. Also in Summer it is a nice stay for cyclists who want to climb the fameus Alpe d’Huez.

We went for lunch with our family of five. There was plenty of choice and the price was fine! We happy, kids happy. Beautiful garden and terrace where you can sit, quiet and spacious. Nice atmosphere. Inside, the restaurant also looks very nice and new.

If staying up on the mountain is just out of your price range, this place will put a smile on your face. An easy drive to a number of entry points to the Alpe D’Huez ski area. Station de L'Olmet was a 10 minutes drive and Vaujany 15 minutes. Both had free parking; you can ski back to Station de L'Olmet, but not directly to Vaujany.
We arranged to stay at Auberge La Douce Montagne, Allemont through Booking.com, but would have got the same rate if I had gone direct. The Auberge La Douce Montagne was an impressive annex to a main hotel back in the 1930s. Now it stands alone and provides clean well portioned rooms at a good price, with extremely friendly and welcoming staff.
Run by Dutch owners, it served our purposes well. Great breakfast (fresh rolls), but a little expensive at €9pp. Then drove up to the slopes (apparently there was a bus). At the end of the day the hotel bar served cold beers and the terrace was bathed in sunshine. On one night we had the three-course set meal; at €17 pp it was pretty good. The next night we wandered down to a local pizza place. Cheap and cheerful.
The room had a double bed and a bunk bed. We paid €60 B&B for 2 pers per night. (€100 for the half board night).
Bottom line is that I’d recommend this place. The staff were welcoming, the rooms very clean and quiet. The hotel is well located to gain easy car access to the slopes (climbing several hundred meters - you’ll need snow chains after a heavy fall).

We arrived to a lovely atmosphere and a heart felt welcome. We didn’t have a reservation but they politely squeezed us in. Our initial service was quick and polite however there was an issue with wasps. We had about 12-15 at the table which was hard work with 2 kids. The starter was lovely and the kids food was good but a bit over priced. However we stopped getting service after this. The empty drinks glasses weren’t collected and we had to move them to the edge of the table as they attracted wasps. We weren’t offered another drink until I managed to wave a waitress down on my third attempt. She couldn’t tell me the white wine options so gave me a menu and then didn’t return to take my order. The kids food plates continued to sit at the table attracting wasps. We moved these to the edge of the table with the glasses. We asked several times for these to be cleared and watched staff walk past repeatedly empty handed but not collecting anything from our table. When these were finally collected they still left the tomatoe sauce attracting more wasps. We asked for some fresh forks and these took longer than they should. Then when we received our menu the €20 burger came with frozen chips and the €17 duck was simply a duck leg and frozen chips, no sauce, no presentation and absolutely no flavour. We were so upset at the service we complained to the staff to ensure they were aware of our complaint and gave them the opportunity to respond.

My friend and I stayed for two nights as part of a bicycling trip and really loved everything about this place. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and always ready to smile or help out. The food was very tasty and healthful. Location is 5 stars if you plan to bicycle any of the famous Cols of the area, including Alpe d'Huez and the Col de la Croix de Fer. The room was on the small side, but extremely clean. Overall, the atmosphere, the friendliness, the hospitality, and the location all made me give this place the high marks that I did. I'm sure it's the same during ski season.

We stayed here the night before we rode our bikes up Alpe d'Huez. It's located about a 6 mile flat ride from the base of the mountain. The majority of the guests at the hotel seemed to be cyclists and hikers which was cool because we were there to cycle.

The hotel had clean comfortable rooms. The staff was really friendly and accomodating. The staff seemed to speak about a million different languages.

They have a group dinner outside that was really pleasant. The hotel had a bar with a comfy seating area but we took our drinks out on the front lawn as did many of the other guests.

Just a really pleasant place to stay-- If you go, walk up the road about 200 meters past the hotel and you'll see the most amazing waterfall on the left!

We stayed here for the 3rd year in a row. Preparing and participating for the legendary triathlon Alpe d'huez..
La Douce Montagne is the best hotel to stay if you are looking for a place to start from for your bike, run or swim trainings in the French Alpes.
Located between the major cols of the French Alpes (Du Glandon, Croix the Fer, Alpe d'Huez, Galibier etc,) it is the ideal starting point for bike trips. The hotel is fully focused on sport and has all facilities to store bicycles safely and maintain them. To recover after a trip is a nice small swiming pool available. For lunch one can choose for the unlimited pasta buffet.
The team of Douce Montagne is great and makes your stay pleasant and comfortable.

Perfect place to stay for cycling holiday in the Alps. A very friendly hotel with a lot of charm and character. The bedrooms are going through an upgrade and improvement programme and are bright and comfortable with great showers. The management and staff obviously love their work as nothing is too much trouble for them. Food is good and plentiful and for cyclists there is a specific lock up storage unit.
Looking forward to returning again.

We stayed here for 2 nights recently after booking online through a third party booking engine. We booked a double room. When we arrived I talked in French but the staff member asked if I spoke English and after that all of them spoke English rather than French.

On first arrival the room was nice, modern, however it was a twin room.

We asked if there were any double rooms available, and were told no, they only had one double room. We asked for a double duvet and it was brought up to the room.

The room had a wardrobe and a nice size bathroom but there were no shutters for the windows. This meant it was light outside very early. The wifi didn't work at all in the room and it only worked occasionally in the dining area. We asked if there was an issue with the wifi but they said it is because we are in the mountains... in the end we went to the Maison de Tourisme nearby which has free, working wifi all the time.

We could hear every outdoor noise from the hallway and the room next door. We could even hear the person next door snoring the whole night. It was also quite disturbing when people were talking in the corridor.

We had the meal here one night but there were only two choices for starter, main course and dessert. The entrecote steak was chewy and overdone and only about half of it was edible. There was also a strange white sauce accompanying the steak. We also had the filet mignon skewer which was nothing special. We found the food very overpriced for the quality.

On the morning we left, we had a cup of tea. I specifically asked if they had green tea. The person said yes, and poured two cups of tea. She then showed me the collection, which consisted of green tea and mango, green tea and lemon. She also offered me verveine which isn't green tea. In the end I used my own tea but they still charged us full price and they didn't apologise.

I would not recommend this hotel at all.

This hotel is located about 10km from the base of Alpe d'Huez but is the perfect base for cyclists wanting that Alpine experience - it is a cycling hotel mainly! The owners are Dutch and cycling mad, the chef at my tiem of staying could ride the Alpe in under 50 mins!!

They offer good food and lots of it, friendly service and safe storgae of your priceless bikes.

I loved every minute of my two stays there
