Detailed Reviews
I took a group of 61 to Alpe d'Huez staying in Chalet Cimes. Whilst the chalet is capable of sleeping 87 I booked it for just 61 taking sole occupancy.
Overall we had a fantastic time, the group of people were great, the snow conditions were more or less perfect as was the weather.
The chalet could do with some TLC, the carpets are worn especially in the communal areas. so starting from the ground floor, boot room, there are no heated boot racks just shelves, the room has a radiator in there, the ski/board room is accessed from the boot room. Both the boot and the ski/board room was full so not sure what they would do if the chalet was a full capacity. You have access directly to the street. There is also a sauna and steam room which are accessed from the hall which leads into a room with the steam room and sauna accessed from here. here is also shower here. From the reports from my group the sauna and steam room weren't brilliant!
First floor is where the reception is and another access to the street, to one side of the reception area is the bar and the other the dinning area. The bar is quite nice with comfy seating but it would only have enough seats for around 40. On the Friday night which is our prize giving night we had just under 60 in there and many were standing, the hotel manager and his staff did bring extra chairs from the dining area,.
Dinning, overall the food was pretty good, although there were some issues for some of the veggies who felt they weren't always very well catered for where as other felt it was fine, they catered for us fussy vegans too. The dinner was buffet style which I was a bit apprehensive about, however it work really well in fact it allowed you to choose what you wanted so definitely a plus. The staff controlled it well by sending a table up at a time, very well organised.
The bedrooms, again a bit tired, mattresses not the best had one or two issues from the group but the staff tried sorting them out but really they need replacing (the mattresses). Bathrooms were fine and looked like these had been refurbished over the last five or so years.
The lift only goes up to the third floor so you'll need to walk a couple flights if you're on the fourth.
Location of the chalet, there two lifts you can get, turn right out of the hotel and walk up the hill a slight way, through a small carpark then you'll see a route down to the Grand Sure, You can also ski back down to this point later in the day. Or you can turn left out of the hotel for about 50 metres then theres a less steep route down to the Grand Sure. Alternatively you can turn left out of the hotel and walk down the road around 400meters to the Centre Station and the lobster pot lifts, this is good for the total beginners as it takes them directly where the ESF ski school is.
Staff, Manager Rainier, brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for him and he runs a tight ship, Heidi was also so helpful and much better looking than Rainier.
Overall a Fab week

A well run chalet-hotel with excellent food in a great resort. Minor criticism, the afternoon tea & good soup etc was cleared away a bit too quickly. Rooms were OK, not too small, I liked mine, great view from balcony, but walls are thin, you can hear whatever the next people are doing. TVs in the rooms had almost no reception, we were told this would be fixed the next week ie later January 2020 – so check more recent reviews if this is important to you.
Location is OK but the nearby ski access route for the morning was too ‘red’ and narrow/icy. I found it easier to leave my skis and boots in the locker at the shop where I hired cheaply, near the Rond Point at the north ‘Cognet’ area of town, where the main lifts & pistes are. I then walked back 10 minutes to the chalet. Starting from the chalet the walk can be shortened by using the lobster pot lift down the road, but in shoes it’s quicker and easier to walk. Others found the free ski bus was fine from just outside.
On the coach we got the usual hard sell to buy a ski pass, even if we wanted a 7 day pass which Inghams don’t stock. The coach rep claimed it was impossible to give a receipt for anything other than a 6 day pass! Fortunately the resort rep came to the rescue next morning with the right pass.
The group ski lessons booked through Inghams were good but note that the adult afternoon lessons start from the Bergers end of the Alpe Express lift, not the Rond Point.

We have just returned from our first ever ski holiday staying in this hotel over the Christmas period.
The hotel manager Rainier Jarman is a fantastic leader and a very polite knowledgeable man, whose staff are a fitting tribute to his hard work.
The hotel is a little dated but has a lovely family atmosphere and everything you need.
The bar is a decent size and creates a lovely relaxed feeling where people congregated for canopes and drink pre evening meal. Ben the barman is very polite and a well versed guy in his role.
The food is absolutely fantastic far better than we had anticipated so congrats to a fantastic chef and his staff.
Breakfast:
Plenty to choose from whether it is continental or hot with cereals and juices a great starter for the day and always plenty available.
Afternoon tea:
There was sandwiches, soup and cakes available with tea and coffee a plenty.
Evening meal:
Always a fantastic choice from salads to pork loin to tandoori chicken again fantastically prepared and presented. The staff always on hand to clear away your used cutlery promptly and always polite and ready to ask how your day was.
Nice glass of wine with the meal.
Really can not speak highly enough of the food standard here.
The rooms are a reasonable size and certainly big enough to use for the purpose with a balcony overlooking a breathtaking view over the mountains in front.
The room has a free to use safe which was nice, the only downside was the 3/4 bath as it would of been nice to have a soak in the bath to soothe aching knees but the shower worked well.
The hotel has a boot room for all your ski gear and although not accomplished skiers there is a red run about 200 yards from the hotel which goes near a chair lift we are told.
We could not have wished for better food and staff even if we had stayed in a 4 star plus hotel and we thank you.

A good first ski holiday which was so close to being perfect!
The good points about the hotel are definitely the staff, the food, and the location. The young team are so welcoming and friendly, and always ask how your day was. You get the impression that they really enjoy their job (almost all of them...). The food was really excellent, especially the duck confit, and the crepes at breakfast! There's something for everyone and they'll even do a kids meal for the particularly fussy eaters. Sadly we didn't get to try the afternoon tea as by the time our lessons finished and we got back, they were usually packing it all away or it was gone! Would be nice to have something for anyone with afternoon lessons, maybe a mid-morning snack? Also, you sit with the same people every night, but it's definitely a bit of a squeeze so I think spreading the tables out a bit more is needed!
The bedrooms were clean when we arrived, but weren't really cleaned enough during our stay. There was lots of fluff from our socks and dirt that could have done with being vacuumed up, and the bathroom got really quite dirty seeing as we were having a bath and a shower every day!
There are lots of board games and a pool table (although it is wonky so you may end up with some weird shots!) in the communal areas. The TVs in the rooms only get about 4 channels (BBC1 and 2, and a couple of kids ones) and the WiFi is terrible if you're in an end room, so these could do with addressing.
I think more should have been made of the free buses so that you don't have to trudge to the lobster pots (admittedly only a 5 minute walk, but ski boots are really so uncomfortable to walk in!). You can pick up the A or B line right outside the door and it drops you at the base of the DMC lift - perfect!
We would have also appreciated some sort of "idiots guide to your first ski holiday" as we were stood staring at the piste map wondering what it all meant! It seems very obvious now, but a little bit of spoon-feeding on day 1 would have gone a long way to soothe our nerves.
If we were to return to the area, we would consider this as an option but I don't think it would be our first choice.

Thank you so much to Ranier and your fantastic team for making us feel so welcome last week! Excellent food and friendly service made us feel right at home. I can honestly say none of us were ready to leave. I would highly recommend this hotel, with preferably a South Facing room, which tended to be larger than the North Facing rooms, and mostly with a Balcony. The views were also fantastic. I would like to give a special mention to Heidi who always made an extra effort to interact with our group, and was always happy to give out local tips. I hope to visit again some day, thank you, Alex

Superb location. Host Rainier and staff are welcoming and friendly. Excellent breakfast and dinner (buffet style) and delicious coffee and cake from 4pm to 6pm. During this time cookies, soup and bread is also provided. The wine flows freely during dinner plus there is canapés and sparkling wine from 7pm till 7:30pm in the bar after which dinner is served. Inghams Rep attends morning and evening to check how your day has been and to answer any questions. There is a sauna and steam room in the basement plus an exercise bike if you are in need of this. I would suggest requesting a 2nd or 3rd floor south facing room and you can enjoy all day sunshine from the balcony if not skiing. There’s a bus stop immediately outside and you can ski almost to the door. Rooms are clean and spacious.

Ranier and his team couldn’t do enough for us. For many of the staff, it was their first week in the season and they did a great job of looking after us. The food was of a high standard, full credit to the catering team. Breakfast was plentiful and had a choice of Continental or Full English and cereals and the 4 pm soup and cakes were welcomed after a day on the slopes.
Everyone congregated for a drink and canapes before making their way into the dining room to share stories of the day. Staff were more than happy to share their knowledge of the area and the best places to ski.
Ski2000 was the local hire company within 5 minutes walk and it was just about ski to door. Thursday is the staff night off and with teenage boys, we went to O'bar for burgers. Great value and good food.
Loved the little quizzes and facts each day
Thank you Ranier and team for a fabulous week.

We were welcomed with cookies and smiles all round. We were on a family trip and all the staff were very friendly and there was a good spirit all round. Although the place is a bit worn, there is a high standard of hygiene and everywhere is clean and it just makes the whole place seem more comfortable. There was always a good selection of food for breakfast, tea, and dinner, even for those with allergies, vegetarians and health problems. If you saw a staff member they would wave and say hello and overall it was an amazing place to stay and we couldn't have wished for a better place. Would definitely recommend!

fabulous well run chalet hotel with views over the valley and convenient for shops and ski lifts. This photo is the view from the balcony are open to all overlooking the front of the hotel.
Possible to ski to and from the hotel (less than five minutes walking) in the season.
The Manager and staff were professional and attentative. More chalet than hotel. Afternoon tea/cakes and soup served or beer from the bar before rest time up till dinner .
Difficult times for staff and industry now. Hope they bounce back because they certainly deserve our support.

This hotel has a very beautiful location and is wonderfully managed by Manouk and Gautier. They enjoy their work and ensure that guests enjoy their stay in the hotel. Manouk and Gautier do this by paying attention to the guests and showing genuine interest, but also by providing a good breakfast and keeping the rooms clean and tidy. Not only French but also English, Dutch and German are spoken. The chefs provide delicious dinners with plenty of variety and choice. The hotel is a short distance from the gondola that takes you to the ski area. In short, highly recommended!

Couple mins walk/ski to Grand Sure chair lift (left out of hotel then take the signpost on right). 15 mins walk to DMC and Signal lifts or catch free bus which stops outside hotel or walk 5 mins to "lobster" pots to get access to DMC.
Hi Louise,
We stayed at Hotel Les Cimes at Christmas and the room was a three bed room which had a 3/4,length bath, WC and a shower over the bath.
The room had a South facing balcony too the room number we had was 2 if this helps?
Yes it does from 4 pm
Hi Michelle L
The pool isn't in the property itself, but in the resort centre approximately 5mins walk away.
We don't provide towels for leisure facilities, so you'd need to bring your own. We do provide towels in guest bathrooms for use in the Chalet Hotel, though :)
Best wishes
The Inghams team
