Detailed Reviews
We stayed in 743. 10-17th April. The place was nice. 2 bed 2 bath + separate toilet. Spacious (for 2 anyway), big kitchen table as part of a larger reception area opening out onto a great view of the slopes from a nice outside terrace! (You could sleep 7, though with gear that may be a push. 4 or 5 would be fine). Apartment was just like the photos we were shown. Its a nice lively place. The apartment is a little tired, but not bad and to be expected for these types of apartments, ive found. The shower door on my shower was fiddly to shut at first, for example. The twin beds were very narrow, i was able to push mine together though.
The location couldn't be any better, it is right in the middle of the town and about a 5-10 min walk with your gear to the Alpe Express cable car which takes you to the Bergers chair lifts in about another 5 mins.
There are lots of dishes/pots/pans and cutlery for self catering. I think the bed linen needs to be requested (I think we did this twice by mistake and ended up with loads). Its basic but clean! We also had towels too. WiFi for our apartment wasnt free, sadly. So we didnt bother.
All in all a pleasant stay. I would possibly give a higher rating, but our stay was blighted by all the other rooms on our floor being occupied by students who descended for a few days from the same Uni. They were all together and partied all night. Usual high jinks. Getting locked out and banging on the doors for about an hour etc. coming and going and shouting to each other every 45 mins throughout the night. I got some ear plugs though and that sorted that out, after two pretty sleepless nights. (The noise couldn't be heard from the other bedroom though.) Im not sure whether this was a massive booking failure, as we were twice the age of them. I went to request another room, but reception was closed at that point.
One thing to note is that you pick up and drop off the keys at a different location, about 10 mins walk away.

Easy and efficient check in. Well appointed rooms/bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and storage areas. All mods cons, with cleaning/hoovering appliances. Clean and tidy on arrival. Space will always be at a premium but ........ you get what you pay for. Heating worked fine and was fully adjustable. There was an abundance of hot water at all times. There is a reception area. We had a lovely balcony overlooking slopes/lifts, with 2 easy chairs. There was a safe in wardrobe. Appt is right next to the ski hire shop and about an easy 8 mins walk to lifts (up or downhill) and right off the main drag/high street with numerous bars and restaurants and a minutes walk to a large SPAR supermarket. There are numerous fast food places about. We recommend you book any restaurants in the first few days!!

We stayed in what was a private apartment via Airbnb. Having said this the block and it amenities are the same whoever you book with. Apartments are small but work okay if you don't need the sofa beds.
Ski lockup in basement works well however it can get a bit crowded at times. Reception is tired and needs some light in there, The Christmas tree was sadly lacking decorations/lights, very spartan.
Ski bus picks up very close by and its not too long a walk to the bucket lift. Spar and Pizza place very close by as are many restaurants.
There is a public underground car park nearby.

Response from Reception_OursBlanc, Directeur général at Pierre & Vacances Residence l´Ours Blanc
Responded 4 Feb 2020
Hello "Newquaygreen1" ! Thank you for taking the time to post this comment about the "l'Ours Blanc" residence. If you had booked through a site other than that of Pierre & Vacances, it is possible that the apartment in which you stayed does not really correspond to the apartment standards of the Pierre & Vacances group. Being under contract with the owners, at the end of the latter we carry out renovations. With regard to AIRBNB apartments, the choice of decoration and renovations is decided by the owner himself. However, with regard to the decoration of the reception, we take note of all the comments that you make since it is a space that everyone uses every day, our customers too. So this is a point that is bn to take for us in order to make every effort to improve ourselves as best as possible. Thank you for taking the time to share with us your opinion which is very important to us. We hope you have enjoyed your stay in the Alpe d'Huez resort and would be delighted to welcome you again during your next stay. Best regards, Thierry Amirault, Alpe d'Huez area director and his team

Pension is well located in the village. Shops are nearby (bakery, catering, Spar store which is very well stocked etc ..)
Our room was on the 6th floor with elevator.
You can pick up a cart on the 3rd floor with a token to unload your luggage.
On the second floor you have the laundry. 7€ for a 10Kg machine with the supplied laundry. 4.50€ for the dryer.
The view from the balcony of our accommodation was not great because you could see the top of the roofs of the shopping gallery.
Our residence was large with a large bedroom equipped with a double bed and TV.
Two bathrooms. One toilet (it would have been perfect with two)
The children's room was quite large.
Many storage closets.
A living room with two sofas including a convertible.
The light bulbs in the bathrooms and kitchen were low power and you could not see clearly.
The kitchen is equipped with a ceramic hob. A plate style I don't like at all.
No real oven but a microwave. In fact, cooking is very limited.
There is an electric coffee maker, kettle and toaster.
There is no hairdryer in the bathroom but towels are provided.

The best thing about our stay at the L'Ours Blanc residence was the attention of Miss Marianna and Mr. Allan at the reception, all small problems and questions were resolved by this VERY PROFESSIONAL team.
Also, it is very close to the slopes and with a good apres ski with many shops and restaurants nearby.
The only notable negative would be the problem with the wifi and perhaps a renovation of the apartments, the paint on the walls and the carpet on the floor.

We are delighted to hear that you had a positive experience, particularly with the exceptional service provided by Miss Marianna and Mr. Allan at the reception. It is always our goal to ensure that our guests feel well taken care of and their needs are promptly addressed. We are glad that you enjoyed the convenient location of the residence, close to the slopes and with a vibrant apres ski scene with shops and restaurants nearby. However, we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with the WiFi and the look of the apartments, including the paint on the walls and the carpet on the floor. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will certainly take it into consideration as we strive to continuously improve our facilities and services. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another enjoyable stay in the future. The Pierre & Vacances team

I am kicking myself, as I didn’t research on TripAdvisor this accommodation prior to booking it. Other reviewers have mentioned a lot of the complaints I have with my experience of Pierre & Vacances Residence l’Ours Blanc.
Blissfully unaware of their 5pm check-in rule, we travelled through the night to arrive at the resort around 10.30. The staff dismissed our pleas to access a room earlier. They are obviously used to batting off complaints from weary travellers, we asked to speak with the supervisor who pretended her English wasn’t good enough when we asked her to release the rooms as they were cleaned.
The accommodation was not cheap but was surprisingly cramped (our room was supposed to sleep up to 5 people), run-down with out-dated furnishings; our experience was common according to others in the group we were travelling in. There added surprises with plug sockets with exposed wiring and ceiling lamp fittings broken and out of use. A simple request to have these repaired or a new room allocated fell on deaf ears. The whole place clearly lacks good management.
After paying 25 euros for their wifi, we discovered it didn't work. We resorted to paying mobile roaming rates.
The boot room was a poorly lit labyrinth of lockers, which operate on these push button timer switches. Regardless of the number of people in your accommodation, you will find it difficult to store anything other than equipment for two people.
Regardless, in the section where our locker was situated you were left groping around in the dark thanks to poor maintenance.
Location-wise, it is a 10-minute up-hill walk to the base of the slopes – in ski boots, carrying all of your equipment was a challenge.
In short, I would not recommend staying here.

I have just returned from this terrible accommodation. Originally booked for 2 people and 3 others were later added on. I was assured by Neilson (who treated us like appallingly) that this 1 bedroom apartment was big enough for 5 adults. It is certainly not. I effectively slept on a sofa for 1 week with 2 friends sleeping on the other sofa and a pullout bed. This room was so small this created one massive bed which entirely blocked the fire exit (the "kitchen area" was at the end of our bed). Quite frankly this is dangerous and unacceptable for the £2000 we paid. I hardly slept all week. The one bedroom is also absolutely tiny with little storage space. Other complaints:
- The boot room locker is tiny and hardly fit our skis and boots in it. We had to pile them up and squash them in (some of our skis costs £400+)
- I returned back to the apartment at lunch one day with my injured sister who had spent all morning in hospital. We didn't have a key and after waiting for 20 minutes at reception we were told we would have to wait another hour for the "superior" member of staff to let us in our room. I ended up saying she might be sick in order to hurry up the staff so that we get her sorted.
- We did not have enough bedding when we arrived and the bedding we did have smelt and was dirty. When we notified reception that we were missing a quilt, they told us we'd have to wait until the morning. The room was freezing cold all night and my friend had nothing but a sheet to keep him warm.
Overrall, this was an awful place to stay and I would avoid it AT ALL COSTS.

+1
We paid £1456 euros for a very poor quality one bedroomed appartment sleeping 5. The electrical sockets were hanging off the wall and one of the 3 did not work. The light fitting was falling out of the ceiling. There was only a hand held shower with no hook or shower curtain thus soaking the bathroom everytime someone showered. The fan in the bathroom was so clogged up with mould that it would not work. Walls were dirty and the very basic heaters had large burn marks in them. The double bed was very poor - a thin matress which completely dipped in the middle. There was no safety deposit box available in the room or at reception and it took the reception staff 4 days to finally find a kettle for the appartment (one was promised on the brochure). Everything was old and of poor quality and very limited storage space. On the plus side there was plenty of hot water and the balcony was nice. When we asked to moved we were told it was full. Some friends in our party had a room that was more modern and looked much nicer. The appartment was next to the ice rink and outdoor pool but had no service via the reception after around 8pm and overnight.

Responded 3 May 2011
Thank you for taking the time to post an account of your stay on Tripadvisor. We are sorry that you were disappointed with the furnishings in your apartment. We have been updating sections of this resort and unfortunately some rooms are in better conditions than others. Alongside this, we accept that our rooms can be on the small side for any groups traveling together. We advise therefore, that any groups visiting our resort check our website and brochure before booking for specific room measurements. We also advise that groups opt for a bigger berth room to ensure they have enough space to move around comfortably. If a customer is unhappy with a room they are allocated we will always endeavour to find a replacement room that is adequate and we sincerely apologise that during your stay we were unable to do this. We have noted this and will pass the information onto Management of the Residence for further consideration. We will also pass on to the hotel management that you did not have a safety deposit box and that there was no reception service after 8pm and overnight. We hope this apology goes some way to compensating for the negative points within your review.
