Hotel's Favourite
A very pleasant, clean and comfortable family run hotel in good location. A warm welcome with friendly and helpful staff. Was perfect for our inter generational short family skiing trip. Quiet at night if you want some rest after a hard day on the slopes, but close to other bars and restaurants etc if you want to go out. Easy access to regular free ski bus (stops virtually outside) to main slopes embarkation area. Having excellent Alain Sports ski hire in the same building is perfect. Thank you for a great stay!

We stayed here for a week in December 2019 - Janurary 2020 after booking through Crystal Ski.
We arrived on the morning flight to Chambery and were greeted by the Crystal reps where we caught our transfer (Coach) to resort - around 2hrs 30mins. We arrived at Le Castillan and the check in process was very straight forward and completed within 5 minutes.
Our room was located on the 4th floor, we didn't have a balcony room which was a bit of a shame (as the weather was absolutly beautiful all week) but then again we opted for the standard room. From our window looking out the back of the hotel we could still see the piste. The room was very well appointed with a large amount of storage space and a lovely large, well lit bathroom. In the bathroom we had a bath which was greatly appreciated after a days skiing and a shower over said bath.
For the duration of our stay we had access to the hotels private boot room, with each room being allocated a locker at check in. We were allocated a thinner locker but there was more than enough space for all of our ski kit including 2 pairs of skis, boots and poles with enough space to leave our helmets to dry too!
The hotel has a small, but well appointed spa which is a fantastic place to relax and unwind after a day on the slopes! Although small the spa consists of two massage rooms a Sauna and Steam Room. The spa is open every day at 4pm with the ability to book massages if you so wish.
The staff at the hotel are all fantastic, all of the staff are welcoming and friendly, it really does have a homely & family feel. The waiting staff in the resturant were both fantastic who paid very close attention to our needs and requirements which made us feel even more at home.
We were staying on a Half Board basis throughout the week which consisted of a buffet style breakfast which was perfect for a morning on the slopes. Each evening we had a 4 course set menu which consisted of a Starter, Main, Regional cheese trolly & dessert. The dinner each night was fantastic with a wide range of food and was all freshly prepared. Every night when we sat down at dinner the staff asked if the menu was suitable due to diatry requirements, if there was an issue the staff we more than happy to change a dish.
The hotel is in a fantastic location a little from the centre of Alpe D'Huez but it is a 5-10min walk to the local lift which will take you to the main lift station (DMC). There is a ski shuttle bus (Route B) which stops 20m from the hotel which makes getting to the slopes in the morning very straight forward.
This is a fantastic hotel, child friendly and has a true family feel. We will most certianly be staying here again in the future.

Just stayed at Le Castillan this week. Only a 3* but great VFM. Rooms are basic but perfectly adequate and nice and clean. Maybe a little tired but remember it’s a 3*. Family owned and run. Staff are very friendly and engaging and all with decent English but will gladly play along as u practice your Franglais! Nice bar and lounge with fire each evening. Breakfast very good. Usual boiled eggs etc but really nice. Great coffee. Lots of fresh fruit. We were half board and evening meals were excellent. Even the vegetarian evening was tasty and filling. Great cheese board every night. Boot and ski room is right at the front of the hotel with your own secure locker and heated boot rails. Ski out is 50 metres down from the hotel and ski back in is about 150 metres either side. Everyone who we made really enjoyed their stay and we wud all come back. Excellent wee local hotel.

Le Castillan is a classic alpine resort hotel with excellent amenities and very welcoming hosts Julian and Stephanie. The staff are attentive and the food excellent (we were on half board). Clean rooms, so everything you need for a perfect holiday break. Really good location in the resort with plenty of car parking. If you're a cyclist this is the perfect location for you as they cater for road and mountain bikers in their secure garage. Would book again.

Location: great location for the slopes as it's ski out but not really ski in. Parking:there are spaces outside the hotel but it is a first come basis. The hotel reception is not on the ground floor and there is no lift so make sure you've had your spinach to carry your cases upstairs. Unfortunately the staff did not offer to assist. We had breakfast included and the choices are very good! They even provide non-dairy milk options. The room was a reasonable size with balcony overlooking the front and the views are AMAZING. There was a small safe and hairdryer provided. Ski room: there are lockers and benches provided. However, do not use the services of the ski shop adjoined to the hotel as it's the worst wax I've ever seen! We had to scrape it off and buy some wax and do it ourselves. I would recommend staying here and would probably stay here again in the future.

Lovely, traditional French hotel. A family run business which was lovely to see. The rooms were warm and clean with comfy beds. The superior rooms had great views from the balcony and provided a perfect spot for some post-ski sunbathing.
Sauna and steam room available which we also used which was a great addition.
Breakfast was buffet style with hot and cold food and some very tasty coffee and croissants.
Dinners were delicious and varied. We especially enjoyed the cheese trolley before dessert! The waiters were friendly and did a great job looking after our group of six. All hotel staff were helpful and smiley.
Every Thursday they have a raclette night served by the chef himself which is fun!
The location is excellent. A five minute walk to apres bars and restaurants and a ten minute walk into town.
You can ski to within a five minute walk of the hotel. In the mornings you can also ski (or walk) from directly outside the Hotel to the Grand Sure chairlift. This takes five minutes maximum.
We will definitely be back!

Very much enjoyed a six night late season stay at Le Castillan. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were on half-board and the meals were top quality; the lack of choice was an accceptable price to pay for this. The hotel is about 30m from a piste giving access to a chair that gets you into the main lift system. If you are wiling to run the gauntlet of window tapping, you can ski to the edge of a car park 60m from the hotel. We had a happy experience renting skis from Alain Sports just under the hotel

Although this hotel is on the edge of town, there are buses stpping right outside, and the centre is only a 10 to 15 minute walk. There's a chairlift to the slopes nearby but only available if there's snow to ski down on, otherwise you can walk into town or get the bus straight up to the main ski areas.
The hotel itself is okay, a few amenities, steam room and sauna. We never ate in the restaurant in the evening but the breakfasts were very very good, lots of choice and the pastries were fresh and the food is great quality.
The one downside was, Crystal ski sell the rooms as ‘Superior’, they are not, they are dated and very small, especially if you get one with bunk beds against the wall. We had to ask for some extension leads as the plug sockets are few. The people in the hotel are very nice, always smiling and say hello and help you with anything.
Luckily, I emailed them before I travelled to see if they have kettles in the room, they don’t. I took a travel kettle.
I would quite happily stay here again.

Le Castillan in Alpe d'Huez is a great place to stay. It is a family-run lodge with many rooms with balconies facing out over the valley. Rooms are a comfortable size with wood panels. Higher floors have better views. The staff is friendly and accommodating. There is a large comfortable lounge with a bar and a nice view. The dining room serves breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a good buffet with scrambled eggs & bacon included. Dinner has a daily menu. I ate 3 of my 4 nights there. There is a spa with steam room & sauna. There is a private locker room for ski equipment. It was all very reasonably priced.

Flawless from A to Z. Welcome with a smile, room with beautiful mountain decor, excellent breakfast with quality products (sweet and savory) and some homemade products which is rare. Excellent restaurant on site for the evening. Functional ski room, location very close to access to the area, well-being area functioning very well for returning from skiing. Pleasant bar with beautiful decor that is both mountainous and modern. We will come back to it!
