Just spent a week here with another family. For the money we thought it ticked a lot of boxes. Not far from slopes or shops , warm pool that the kids liked, rooms are basic but serve the purpose, breakfast is fine , can fill up before the day on the slopes. We upgraded to half board which was a good decision as it’s great value and really good food. Service by the staff was fantastic, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or revisit this accommodation

Pierre & Vacances is like McDonalds, you know what to expect and everything is quite ok. The rooms are well functioning with the necessary equipment. Cleaning could be better, the sofa bed could be better but the overall experience is ok.
At this residence there is was an outside pool and this was really great. We spent one hour in the pool, everyday after skiing and that was really fun!

This is our fourth visit to this hotel and sixth year to Alpe D'Huez. We stayed during Feb half term 2013. The resort is so vast and the ski condition has always been reliable even for the bad years when there isn't much snow in Europe.

The hotel is comfortable and functional. We stayed and an apartment for 2/4. The kitchen is well fitted for if you want to cook in.

Remember for ask for an apartment in the main build, especially if you want to use the pool. You do not want to walk outside in the snow between the buildings to get to the pool. The pool is warm at 29 degrees. It takes a few minutes to get use to it but if the sun is out, it feels less cold. The sauna is nice afterwards to warm up.

Something we tried for the first time this year is in room wifi. We went for the hi speed version and for multiple devices. It was 25 Euros for the week. I felt it was worth it for the convenience. This year especially as we did not seem to be able to watch BBC world service on the TV. It nice to catch up on news.

The hotel is very convenient for the slopes, ski school and supermarket. They are all less than 5 minutes walk away.

I will definitely be back. For a ski hotel, it is fantastic.

I felt I had to write this as I have just seen the previous two reviews and I stayed in January 2024 and my experience was very different.

Firstly we booked an apartment that sleep 6 for 3 people, we always do this in France from previous experience. This meant we had lots of space, two twin beds as you come in, 2 sofa beds in living area where we made up one and used the other as a sofa. Plenty storage for us all.

On arrival there was a kit provided with some dish washer tablets, some clothes, a little washing up liquid etc. tea towels also provided.

Yes there was only one toilet roll but this is standard in any self catering accommodation in France, as is no cleaning/bed making during the week.

On each floor there was rubbish disposal including recycling, I found this very handy as in other places we have had to take down to a central area on complex.

Our apartment had modern (ikea type) furniture, which was basic but adequate. The kitchen lots of utensils, good pans for cooking etc.

The pool was lovely, the sauna worked for the first half of the week only which was disappointing. The restaurant was nice and reasonable prices, they also do takeaway too with reduced pricing.

It is very handy for the ski area, 5 mins walk on a morning and you can ski through the park to right opposite the reception (weather permitting) when you finish for the day. I would have no issues in staying again.

It is a 15/20 minute walk into the main but for a night time if you plan to go out every night.

booked to stay at the Pierre et Vacances Les Bergers for 7 night with a group of friends for our ski holiday. the hotel wasn’t as show in the photos, our room had 4 small single beds in 1 room and 2 downstairs. the kitchen was tiny and they only offered us the 1 locked for 5 people skis, boots and polls.(we had to carry them up to our room everyday as they didn’t fit in our locker which was included.) the locker room light didn’t work so had to use a phone light to put on our ski boots everyday. the hotel had an awfully bad smell to the place too. showed in the photos online we expected to have 2 bedrooms containing a double bed and 2 singles in a separate room. we book this hotel as we wanted a sauna and this was broken 6 out of 7 days of our stay. i wouldn’t recommend this hotel as it’s not at all like the photo show on there website. save your money and stay somewhere else.

Hotel is clean; well equipped and very near the lifts. The pool is a bonus tho it needs updating ; the saunas are great . The restaurant serves a range of good food - staff are in general helpful. Read some awful reviews of the other hotel with similar name on Trip Advisor. This one has lots of hot water and the rooms are spotless.

We spent a few days at the Bergers residence with half board. I 100% recommend this establishment. The room is spacious, the cleaning is impeccable. The swimming pool and sauna are very popular. The restaurant is excellent for dinner and breakfast. The staff is very professional and pleasant and we helped make this vacation perfect. A big thank you to the reception and the manager for sending us our forgotten belongings which is rare. Thank you for everything !

Very good value for money. Thank you to the entire reception team for their kindness and availability.
The apartments are renovated and pleasant. Good bedding. Many free services. A very nice restaurant on the ground floor and the big plus, departure from the slopes at the foot of the residence.
We will come back 🤩

Yes, accommodation for skiing holidays is over-priced compared to what you get elsewhere. It always has been. And yes, the appartments can be battered about a bit, especially if people can't be bothered to use any ski lockers provided and take their equipment into their rooms. All ski resorts can be noisy and not all appartments have fantastic views. That's our experience over the years.

So, if you accept all of the above, this accommodation ranks quite highly in our book. The resort is a relatively short transfer-time from Grenoble or Lyon airports and Les Bergers is very conveniently situated for the slopes. If you are a first-time, or limited experience, skier, don't let anyone convince you that catching a shuttle bus is easy in ski boots and carrying skis and poles because believe me, you may well be shattered before you even reach the snow! At Les Bergers you don't have far to walk up to the lifts and ESF ski school meeting point and you can ski back down. Or, depending on where you've hired your equipment from, you might be able to leave boots and skis overnight in the shop. Take this option if it's available. So, location is great.

Staff are very pleasant and helpful. always cheerful and professional. A faulty coffee jug was replaced immediately and no charge made for a glass broken by us.

Lifts are swift. We usually request rear (South-facing) appartments on the 5th or 6th floors - views are lovely. This year, after a 3 year gap, we discovered that our appartment had been very nicely refurbished with modern wood laminate flooring, smart bathroom and kitchen area (with much improved Halogen hob), new curtains and doors. The shower works brilliantly - full pressure and constant hot water at all hours. Duvets and pillows were clean and comfortable. If you are arriving after a long journey, you might want to consider paying extra for the bed-making service.so they are made up on arrival. Beds are firm but not uncomfortable. We found most things we needed were present although you might want to take scissors, tongs and oven gloves. Cleanliness of the appartment was very good indeed.

Space-wise, we always have a 4-berth appartment for 2 adults and 1 child, which is perfect, but I would say there is ample storage space for 4 adults. More mugs and glasses would be handy and I have mentioned this to the Residence.

The free outdoor swimming pool is beautifully heated. Lockers are free and very secure. Beware, communal changing areas!

La Fondue restaurant in the foyer area serves good food including all the local specialities. It's not the most expensive place to eat in Alpe d'Huez either. In previous years we've taken the evening meal option there and also, instead, used the Food Pack Service, a company that will deliver all your food for the whiole week. The nearest supermarket is pretty-well stocked too.

Price-wise, we have been both during and outside school holidays. Obviously the latter is much cheaper but Les Bergers compares very favourably with elsewhere at any time.

I can't think of anything NOT to recommend about this Residence. People often use the word 'basic' - well, ski accommodation does tend to be as it works on the premise that you are out all day skiing and only need a place to eat, wash and lay your weary head! If you went for super-luxury you wouldn't get the benefit of it anyway! However, we find Les Bergers has everything we need and more. I understand that not all appartments have been refurbished yet so it is definitely worth enquiring. If I understood correctly, they should all have been done by September this year.

Our impression is that Alpe d'Huez is a mainly younger person's resort. So that can make for some noise in the early hours but I doubt if there are many resorts where you could say that never happens. However, we heard no noise whatsoever from neighbouring appartments so sound-proofing must be good. Any noise comes from the corridor and lift areas and I suppose if I had to find a drawback it is that the Reception is not manned overnight if you wanted to complain about other residents. But as I said, it's fine once they are inside their own appartments.

Hope you have a great time if you decide to give this resort and accommodation a try!

Was our first family ski holiday (24-31/12/11) and could not have asked for anything more. Check in was a little late (arrived 2pm, couldn't have room til 4.45) but we sorted ski rental and stored everything in their spare room whilst we checked out the resort.
This hotel has one of the best locations in Alpe d'Huez - right next to a chair lift (the scare lift, they call this one). Its not the most glamourous hotel inside but it does the job - depends how fussy you are? The resort is lovely - nice variety of runs. Excellent ESF ski school, 3 of us had beginner ski lessons with Yves N (what a great instructor/bloke) and my husband had snowboarding lessons. Few shops, restaurants and bars nearby which are very pricey due to the euro - although supermarket was fine and I will def go self catering next time. Ice-skating rink 10 mins walk away, in town.
Booked this trip via Neilson - reps were great (Ali & Nat). Ali helped us get our lessons at the same time as ski-ing had been booked for the morning and snowboarding for afternoon - nothing was too much trouble - he even popped in daily, to check we were happy and join us for a hot choc! Really nice bloke. We joined the Nat & Nat' quiz night in town which was a good laugh.
Will definately go back to this resort and prob this hotel. My husband usually goes ski-ing with friends (first time he's convinced us to join him) and has visited Meribel, Courchevel, Salbaac. He is not one to return to a resort but thinks this is ideal for families, a superb resort.

Pierre et Vacances have a number of wifi options, such as Basic and Premium. Very often - but not always - one of the plans is included in the stay for free. In Alpe d'Huez we got a free plan that, if I recall correctly, provided basic speeds for 2 devices. If you need more you can buy one of the other plans, I know one of them provides for 5 devices which may be the one you are looking for. Those are concurrent devices by the way, so if you have 6 devices you can go with the 5-device-plan as long as you make sure not more than 5 of them connect to wifi at the same time. As for Basic vs Premium: the Premium plan should give better speeds (and they unblock some ports) but in my experience with pierre et vacances in the mountains there's not that much difference, especially during peak times.

We took our bikes into the apartment and left them on the balcony. But I noticed someone had locked their bike to a pipe or something in the landing outside the lift.

The ski school meeting point is the other side of the lift and shop/restaurant with skis on it is a little bit of a trek but good to get you warmed up before your ski school starts - may be wise just to walk in your ski boots and carry your skis - will take only about 5 mins walking or skiing - but skiing may be a bit harder (until you get used to the technique).
