We visited the legendary pool party a few times. Great music, cheap drinks and lots of beautiful people. Hedonists and swingers are very open here and very direct when flirting. Greatly dressed, very quickly naked. Bring your own condoms if anything else is planned 🔞💦🥂

An update from last year’s visit. This time we went later in the season and over a weekend and so some things may be different for these reasons rather than there being an actual change. Firstly overall it is still a good place to visit. With a couple of positive developments, a couple which will depend on your viewpoint and one negative which really need to be addressed.

Firstly the positives. The code system for entering the grounds is no longer in place. You now get a magnetic key disk at the AGN offices which opens the gate. Apparently this is to “reduce the number of unauthorised visitors who were given the code by guests”. There is also free Wi-Fi available in the rooms and this worked well. Much better than last year when you only had very poor access in the reception area. Apparently there is Wi-Fi access around the pool as well but I didn’t try it. On a semi-related matter a number of mobile phones were being used around the pool and it was a bit disconcerting when some men needed to text with their phone in the air rather than pointing down towards their sunbed. Chances are what they were doing was completely innocent – I am not sure this was always the case. Either way it is unfair on other people around the pool who do not appreciate the possibility that they are being photographed or videoed. Perhaps we will find there is a mobile phone ban along with cameras. Or perhaps some men need to be a little more aware of how their actions are being interpreted.

The next two new events this year for us were the parties being held around the pool. Maybe this always happened later in the summer – maybe it was because we stayed over a Saturday night – I don’t know. Personally I am quite ambivalent about them and don’t really mind either way but there are positives/negatives based on what your own view is.

We arrived on a Wednesday to find a party was in full swing around the pool. This was open to outsiders and a rough estimate would be about 150 people crowded around the pool bar area having a great time. Some people would love this and run down to join in. Others would be a bit miffed that they could not use the sunbeds/pool space they had paid for because it was being used by non-guests. Simple solution to this is to find out when the parties are on – then choose to stay on those days or book for alternative nights – simple. Not a problem.

On the Saturday there was another party around the pool bar area. Again open to outsiders at a cost of Euro60 per couple. This charge also applied to guests at the hotel who would have to pay a second time to use the facilities. However there is an argument that the party didn’t start until 9pm, there was entertainment, nibbles provided and so there is some cost involved. But if you have chosen this hotel because it is away from the noisier area you will find you have loud music until 2am. I know the whole point of a holiday like this for some people is to party all night – it was a good party and it was good to have on your doorstep. But perhaps guests at the hotel should receive some reduction on cost of entry seeing as they have already paid for the facilities and there is no point trying to sleep in your room until gone 2am. Again – if this is what you want then stay the nights of the parties – if you want a relatively quiet place after midnight then choose a different night. Or at least get a room at the far end away from the pool. It’s a simple choice. Not an issue.

By the way the music around the pool was better this year. Not so ear-shatteringly loud, not so clackety-clackety techno (I even heard a touch of Status Quo …). However the thing this year seems to be to bring a “drummer” to play along with the disco. I use the term “drummer” loosely as it sounded like he was banging a couple of wooden spoons on a pile of Tupperware boxes. I sometimes struggle to see why a DJ thinks he can improve on a song by trying to mix it up and putting a techno beat behind it – but to actually have a Tupperware basher playing along to a Michael Jackson track? I was tempted to get some pots and pans from the kitchen area and bash them along with him. A couple of dustbin lids and we could have sold tickets to our own version of Stomp. And why the woman who played her own music in competition with the pool music? Who enjoys two different beats from two different sources going into your head at the same time? Is it me? (It’s got to be – I can’t understand why there are three different restaurants in the shopping/foodcourt area in the centre of the quarter competing with two pub-singers, a karaoke and a bloke playing a trumpet all combining to create a sound reminiscent of a cement mixer, stirring broken glass being operated by a bloke using a road drill with his other hand. Do people ever return to these restaurants? Why? Anyway – I digress as the shopping/foodcourt area is not related to staying at Le Jardin de Babylone)

So what is the negative which really needs to be addressed? Well it is outsiders using the facilities. Opening up the pool/bar for specific party times is fine - but during the regular day to anyone who wants to stroll in is not. It is quite galling to see a couple of dozen people walking out the gates at the end of the day when you have seen guests of the hotel having difficulty finding a sunbed/parasol in the afternoon. I would estimate a quarter to a third of the people around the pool during the day were not staying at the hotel and there appeared to be no effort to monitor this. Of course these freeloaders were nowhere to be seen on the night when there was a Euro60 entrance fee. A by-product of this is also gender balance. Le Jardin de Babylone advertises itself as a “couples hotel”. However there was certainly a slight imbalance of the number of men due to the failure to enforce “guests only” at the pool.

Clearly the hotel acknowledges there has been a problem in the past – hence the magnetic key rather than a code for access. However that is also not working. Perhaps simply asking people for their room number and names when towels are handed out would cut down on this. I wouldn’t want to go down the route of a wristband system but maybe that would be a solution? Perhaps selling a limited number of day passes to “couples” so friends can join friends – rather than the current system of guests opening the gate to whoever they want. The hotel must ensure it is a “couples” environment and the facilities are for paying guests. Otherwise they will find more people renting cheaper apartments and wandering in to use their facilities.

It didn’t spoil our holiday and we will be going back and I would fully recommend Le Jardin de Babylone (as long as you are open-minded) but they need to address the access issue.

BTW I found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful - but you will need to ask for your room to be serviced mid-stay if required as this is not done automatically.

Sad to say after this last visit won’t be returning. We have been regular guests at Le Jardin be Babylone during peak season for almost 25 years and enjoyed meeting old and new friends in a calm relaxing environment. The previously lush gardens are now bare and dry, whilst the property itself is dirty, old, tired and lacking maintenance. I had explored the possibility of purchasing one of their apartments a few year ago but am now thankful I didn’t proceed. The dynamic has completely changed, it’s now all about the money and not the customer. This is now a 100% pool party venue, accommodating up to 900 persons at €25 - €30 per couple, that’s €12,000 in door takings alone without a bar spend of probably double that!

In the past, the pool parties alternated between Babylone and it’s sister complex, Le Jardin de Eden offering some respite and calm days but not now. The daily cost of our accommodation was €330 including a pleasant al-fresco breakfast by the pool but absolutely nothing else. We have always known there was no cleaning or room service and accepted that as a minor inconvenience, although reception would exchange towels on request.

I had been in contact with several of our old friends to tell them we would be present in August but they all said the same, too expensive and no service!

I now understand exactly why. . . .

Jardin the babylone's party is very stressed. Several people who take multiple mattresses and demand a lot.. "beauty" which is relative comes on the 1st plate. Party atmosphere is a far cry. Drinks are very tasty but nowhere to sit or lie down.

We just got back from a week of babylone. And it was amazing! Rooms are great, staff are helpful and the parties are great. We will definitely be back next year. We have been in cap agde in several places the years before, but babylone we think is the best place to stay.

Now for the third time we stayed at the Jardin de Babylone, while we were two times at Jardin d'Eden. So we are experienced. We have noticed that the reviews of both places show quite some variation. Therefore we give an update of our impressions. Briefly: there is a huge difference between the two places, for us that means in nearly every aspect that Jardin de Babylone is much and much more pleasant, while even cheaper than its sister resort. Jardin de Babylone is really very pleasant, unique, a miracle of mankind. We love the place, as it strengthens our relationship, it brings us enormous pleasure and makes you realize what human beings love and like to do. How they are and look like, how they interact and enjoy their bodies... while you do so yourself. We are in love with the place.
Typical for Babylone is quiet, tolerance, respect and freedom. It has much less glamour, the guests are much more 'ordinary people'. Strangely, the level of comfort is considerably higher than in the wilder resort of Eden. The personnel is really extremely friendly, whatever has been written elewhere. For three years we experienced this and this year they were really helpful and polite. And at least, there IS personnel, all day long at the entrance desk. There is not even a desk at Eden!
The miracle obvious is that you can stay all day in the resort, including the restaurant, in total freedom. You do not even think of wearing clothes. You do not even think of being ashamed to play with each other. No one would ever react, it is fully normal that naked couples like it to have physical contact. This brings great pleasure, which is strongly increased by the effect of the openness. Simply, seeing dozens of naked couples, in all kinds of interaction all day, is very stimulating. You won't be doing it all day, obviously, but much and much more frequent than ever in your life. You also read books, you talk, you have drinks. But the mattresses are so inviting, under the parasols, there is very pleasant soft music, with cool drinks (which actually were cheap!), total relaxation and nice views of each other. It is really amazing to see how the couples interact in their own ways, you realize how experienced they all are and how they enjoy each other. To become excited fully openly is such a unique feeling that is hardly to imagine what it brings about. It is like a dream!
Now for some reality again. Indeed, avoid the socalled 'pool parties', open for the outsiders on payment but rather unpleasant for the guests. This year on Wednesday AND Fridays. Make another plan for those afternoons (adult beach, nude foam parties etc.)
Come to the pool in the mornings, it is not even half full (about 60 mattresses are available), experience the sensation of early day intimacies. Afternoons in the high season are rather busy but still, if you occupy the two mattresses, there is no problem at all.
The rooms are functional, practical, well maintained, yet not very luxurious. The first floor at the backside towards the pool has really good views (many kilometers of moors). We received new towels immediately everyday we asked. WiFi is free but rather slow. We never had problems with noise. Airco available and works well.
Beds were very good. Eden is closer to the beach and to all the noise. Babylone is a little further from the beach and the shopping centres (5 min. walk). But who complains of walking to the shops, without any clothes, in the sun? And the shops are high quality with respect to food, this is really France.
Babylone is more tasteful, more quiet, more pleasant. Who has not been there, cannot imagine what it is like. At least for us, it is so stimulating that the level of excitement exceeds what you have ever experienced. There is no better place to celebrate your relationship, it is natural. No one ever reacts to anything. It is not even mentioned in any rule how to behave or not. Therefore, it still is a miracle...

My wife and I visited the infamous Jardin de Babylone with minimal expectations. We're heard about it naturally but was a bit wary that in reality it couldn't measure up to its reputation. Were we wrong!

First off the rooms are clean and basic with not many frills unless you consider the kitchenette an advantage, which we did. It was easy to walk outside the hotel grounds to the nearby shopping areas for produce and meats which could be easily prepared in the room. They supplied utensils, places and even a dishwasher.

And then there is the pool: I suspect the pool is more popular on the weekends than weekdays since many visitors left Sunday night. However, we've been to Hedo and by no means rookies to the lifestyle but we were genuinely impressed by pool guests. Leave it to the French and Europeans to discard any puritanical inhibitions and it was a joy to behold. At Hedo sex by the pools in the daytime is a rarity, at Babylone its essential. At one point on a Sunday afternoon I counted approximately 14 couples surrounding the pool and every single one of them got into the act at one point or another with each other or in groups. Amazing.

Everyone was respectful and the atmosphere is fun. They have a restaurant by the pool that serves up delicious meals but everything shuts down by 8 pm. However, they do leave the pool area open with a few select soft chairs if you'd prefer to enjoy your companion under the open sky.

Is it overpriced? If you factor in the atmosphere of naked enjoyment by the pool rather than simply looking at the price of a room or a meal, then my answer is no.

Babylone is an oasis in what I'd describe as an almost carnival atmosphere of the Cap, which we'd prefer to avoid.

One last note: NEVER ever bring an insecure partner to the hotel :)
