Detailed Reviews
A couple of night in this beautiful chateau about 10 miles out of Bordeaux city centre was so good. This chateau is surrounded by its own vineyard and they offer residents a complimentary tour and tasting. We did a vertical tasting of their first cru classe which was worth the cost, very interesting. Rooms are ornate yet amenities are modern. Breakfast is very good, courtesy of Florian. Sebastian and Bertrand look after guests at reception. Be careful with the taxi they call as he starts his meter at 14euros as soon As you get in, which means a 2km trip to the nearest decent restaurant in Pessac costs 20 euros each way! We saw the legendary M Magrez' a couple of times!

Both the chateau and the staff are truly amazing. We stayed four nights in a huge suite, booked through Travelzoo. We were greeted on arrival with a glass of the delicious 2018 Chateau Pape Clement while our luggage was taken to our room. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with cereals, a wide range of breads and cakes and pastries, cold meats and cheese, and fruit juices, including oranges squeezed on the premises. The Chateau only has six rooms and so is very quiet and relaxing.
Evening meals were available by arrangement, although we did not realise this and had pre-booked restaurants before we left the UK. Had we known, we would have eaten there at least one night.
We were given a tour and tasting in the Pape Clement winery and we also opted for the full day visit to two other chateau/vineyards in the Magrez group. In the morning, we had a tour of both the winery and the Chateau (which is run as an event venue) at La Tour Carnet and a tasting of the wines. We were then dropped off for an hour in St Emilion to get some lunch and have a wander before visiting Chateau Fombruage in the afternoon. The guide Valentin, a well qualified sommelier and wine expert, was interesting and informative.
Our deal also included two bottles of wine from the chateaux we visited.
The Chateau is easily reached by taxi from the airport (about 25 Euros) and the centre of Bordeaux is about 20 - 30 minutes away by bus or tram.

This property was simply marvelous. Everything about it exceeded our expectations. The Chateau is visually and architecturally stunning. It is breathtaking from every angle. The stained glass window above the stair well is magnificent. The grounds were incredibly manicured with the most majestic and ancient cedar tree in front which was visible from the window in our room. The olive trees are also incredible with one dating back to the year 195. The place is also a veritable museum inside. David whom we spent the most time with, was the most gracious and accommodating host. He gave us a tour of all the artwork including two stunning chandeliers, beautiful canvasses, antique furniture and more. Every other staff member we encountered was equally kind and helpful, but David stands above the rest. He just exuded passion about the property and was full of terrific suggestions. We booked a wine and cheese pairing during our stay which I highly recommend. The tour of the winemaking facilities that came with it was incredibly educational. Our guide was simply delightful. We were fortunate enough to stay in the Temperance room. It was absolutely gorgeous. The bed was enormous and fit for royalty. The bathroom however stole the show. Clearly recently remodeled it was huge and the shower was simply the best I’ve used anywhere on earth. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and comprehensive. Ours included coffee, fresh orange juice, a cheese and ham plate, fruit salad, bread with butter and jam and an omelette du fromage. We also ordered room service the night before which was also amazing.

Spent one too-short evening here to kick off our 25 anniversary trip of Southern France. Close proximity to BOD airport was a bonus, allowing us drop our bags upon arrival with time to settle in and enjoy a pre-dinner tour and tasting.
The staff was wonderful and the settings were formal but comfortable. We were familliar with their wines which were enjoyable, and the complimentary breakfast was filling. I do wish that their dining room was operating as it would have made for a wonderful dinner setting, but understandable as things open up post-covid. It was a quick 15 mins to downtown bordeaux where we wandered about and enjoyed an evening of mussels, something we typically do at least once in France.
Will definately return our next time passing through Bordeaux. Thanks for kicking off our anniversary trip in style!

We were treated like royalty upon our late evening arrival by a host who was most attentive to our every need. The castle was abundant with centuries old charm and decadence. I was impressed by how we were able to order late night delicious meals brought to our rooms. I was particularly pleased to indulge in the fragrant Guerlain bath products. The grounds feature cheerful yet sophisticated, manicured landscapes including actively growing and productive vineyards. The ivory colored china in the breakfast room was classy and elegant. The attention to detail was everywhere present. The owner and his staff of this French historical site clearly prioritize their passion for providing guests with a memorable and personalized experience.

I don’t know where to even begin to review this amazing chateau. Hands down the best stay and experience of my entire life. We were welcomed by a very friendly lady at the wine shop who directed us to the chateau host. The hosts (Bertrand, Sebastian, Kinga) were excellent, extremely patient, and knew the property at the back of their hands. We booked 2 of the 6 available rooms hence it was a very private and exclusive experience. We were also offered a free upgrade as we were traveling with a baby and they thought we could do with a bigger room. Bertrand gave us a private tour of the chateau, Sebastian offered us a nightcap of the vineyard’s first wine. Breakfast was a huge spread and Kinga was so kind enough to prepare a whole new meal when we told her one of us is vegan. The room stays included a wine tour and tasting as well which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thomas was an amazing guide and detailed in his explanations and very informative! He shared that they also do private events and weddings at the chateau. Despite our already married status, we were all very tempted to throw a second wedding there. 10/10 would visit again!

From beginning to end it was 5 star white gloved service from the entire staff. We love staying at places like Four Seasons because of the attention to detail and we received it here! The meal was delicious, the wine tour was informative, the tasting was fun, and the room & castle exceeded our expectations. Elegant, attentive, and detail oriented are the words to describe this entire Valentines stay for us.

The place itself is like a beautiful castle, with the rooms very much "preserved" in the time period, which makes this a very authentic experience.
Our room was fabulous and very spacious, with a huge bathroom. Opening the windows revealed a beautiful view of the vineyard. The bed was comfortable, but the room had not yet been set up with A/C for the summer, so it was a bit hot. We slept with the open window to cool the room, and it was comfortable.
We had a mix-up with our reservation, and this is where the staff, especially Anna, the manager, really came through! She worked tirelessly to accommodate and fix the issue, upgraded our room, organized our picnic lunch and made sure we were able to participate in the B Winemaker experience we had initially reserved. She did it all with a smile and a great attitude. Amazing customer experience to Anna and the staff.
We definitely recommend the chateau and would love to return.

The Chateau grounds are something out of a storybook. Immaculate, beautifully manicured, transmitting a sense of elegance and tranquility. Each room is carefully appointed and maintains a reserved religious background (after all it is Pope Clement V) without conveying a sense of religiosity. The tour guide, Jules, was absolutely terrific! Very knowledgeable and passionate about wine and we learned a ton. The tasting is well done and most of it is a preamble to get to the first wine of the Chateau, which is worth the visit. It is easy to get to the Chateau from Bordeaux and you should not miss it.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Château Pape Clément vineyard in the Pessac appellation in Bordeaux, France. This stay was not only the highlight of our entire two-week vacation in France, but also the most fantastic accommodation we have ever experienced. Our room was the suite named “the White room” (photo attached) and I felt like a princess. The staff were friendly, helpful and absolutely the best hospitality professionals anywhere in the world. The property is historic (over 700 years old) and exudes a charm that you instantly feel on the free tasting and tour of the grounds that is included in the price of the room. As you might expect, the rooms are expensive, but well worth the splurge as a once in a lifetime experience.
