We spent two days in this beautiful house with an incredible host, Margaret. She is a wonderful person with a lot of knowledge of the region and real pleasure to talk. The room is great, the little extras, porto, chocolate, fruit are wonderful. The view of Ruby Bay superb. The garden and flowers a delight. We felt sad when we need to say good bye. I hope if not us going back to your place, you Margaret could come and visit us in San Diego.

The Foxes, high on a hill, was truly a dream place. The room was equipped with amenities such as frig. with dessert, complimentary port and fruit, free Wifi.fine linens, the best mattress, robes. All was spotless and tasteful including a gorgeous white bathroom with huge walk in shower. The glass doors of the room opened to create a feeling of living outside with a breath-taking view from the patio. Margaret , our host, did all she could to make us feel welcome including flying the flag of the USA for out arrival. Would choose this B and B again.

Margaret is an outstanding Hostess, supported by Horton (Insiders know who is meant....). The room, the house and its garden and the service were fabulous. The "little things" like the turndown with chocolates etc. were appreciated and make the difference to other places.
Thanks for sharing your home with us!

I just returned from a trip through New Zealand and I have to say that one of my favorite places to stay was The Foxes overlooking Ruby Bay. The accomodations are modern and very comfortable. The view of Ruby Bay was just simply out of this world....what a way to wake up every morning! The home and gardens are incredibly beautiful and the hostess, Margaret and her dog Horton are a joy to be around. She has a great knowledge of the countryside and the places to visit and see. All of her recommendations for food and for travel times were spot on. She is an experienced traveler and has thought of every detail but also allows for privacy if needed. It is definitely a 5-star accomodation! Hope to return someday and stay there again!

Margaret was a wonderful hostess. I have gluten free dietary requirements and she did a wonderful job with having breakfast choices and snacks available I could eat. The gardens and the view from our room was gorgeous. We really enjoyed having Horton her dog great us every-time we came back from a day excursion. The first night we where there was Valentines day and Margaret got us reservations ahead of time on the Mapua Wharf, she was worried we would not have a place for dinner when we arrived. I would highly recommend The Foxes to anyone who is planning a trip to New Zealand in the Nelson Region.Cathy and Mary

I just returned from a month-long trip through NZ and AUS and of all the places we stayed, The Foxes remains among the most memorable. First, the drive up to the location from the Picton Ferry Terminal was stunning and was really our first introduction to the NZ countryside... figuring it couldn't be topped I was blown away as we rolled up the driveway to The Foxes. After we initially missed the driveway (don't let the sheep and private drive fool you!), Margaret guided us right to her door no problem.

The property is absolutely immaculate and Margaret puts every effort into making your stay memorable and super comfortable (without invading your privacy whatsoever). We arrived at our room to find Bic Runga (a NZ musical artist) playing pleasantly on the Bose stereo system and a cold bottle of wine and savory snacks on the private patio table outside our door. The room is cosy with a nice big bed. There's a little desk (perfect for writing home), a tv complete with a collection of notably local movie and tv selections on DVD, the afore-mentioned stereo also complete with a library of music CDs to pick from, a cosy chair and an absolutely stunning bath.

The view is spectacular, the sound of the birds outside is dream-like as you open the full wall of windows up to let the gardens become part of your room and the ocean beyond part of your view.

Margaret really made every ounce of our stay more than comfortable, helping to confirm our tour bookings, recommending restaurants and shopping, arranging a dietary-tailored breakfast that hit the spot,... I truly wish we had been there longer, but there was so much to see. She and Horton (who is absolutely adorable and the true mascot of The Foxes) made our visit extra special and so homey, how she keeps up those amazing gardens (don't forget to explore those while you're there) I'll never know! If I could have, I would have moved in permanently.

I absolutely cannot recommend this enough, if you visit the south island and miss out on the Foxes, you are missing out on a piece of pure utopia. :)

We stopped at the Foxes for a 3-night stay, having been traveling at a lively pace for about three weeks. What a lovely, restful place to just take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The hilltop location looks over peaceful farmland, the shoreline below and the sea beyond, while the house and its extensive gardens are absolutely gorgeous. You will find your room decorated in the best of taste, with the finest linens and an amazing bathroom. Margaret was a wonderful hostess, anxious to meet your every need and always to quite willing to help out with any questions or services you might need. Our breakfast was always delicious and served in a lovely breakfast room with wide-open doors looking out over the valley below.
There is plenty to see and do in the area. The Able Tasman park is nearby and there is an endless list of activities to keep the active and the more leisurely inclined quite busy. If that's not your thing, there are plenty of wineries to visit and of course, there are several worthwhile attractions that one can visit in Nelson as well.
Thank you Margaret....we had a wonderful time and thank Horton for keeping a close watch on things. It's winter here now, but it's nice to remember enjoying a good glass of wine while sitting on your lovely balcony and watching the sunlight fade away.
Very highly recommended.

We arrived to find a Canadian flag flying in our honour. We loved every minute of our stay with Margaret Fox at The Foxes B&B. Margaret has a wonderful talent as hostess and went out of her way to make our stay a truly special part of our trip to New Zealand. The nearby Abel Tasman National Park was spectacular and if it weren't for the fact that we wanted to tour around the area I would have just loved to sit back and admire the gardens and views from The Foxes balcony. The room, linens, food everything was top notch and I would highly recommend staying there. It was a real treat!

I couldn't agree more with the reviews given for this wonderful B&B. Margaret and Horton (her trusty schnauzer) were wonderful hosts. The surroundings and views are breathtaking and the breakfasts everything you could ask for and more (homemade honey made from the neighbors beehives)! Our rooms were lovely (we were traveling with another couple) including our fresh fruit, sherry and special "treats" left for us each evening. Margaret even surprised me by washing (and doing some extra scrubbing) on a muddied pair of hiking shorts I left out to dry. Thank you again, Margaret! Your place was a one of the highlights of our trip.

What a wonderful surprise. When we decided to extend our stay in the Nelson area
'The Foxes' was recommended by local friends. And Margaret was good enough to take us as last minute guests.
The Foxes is a luxury B&B set in beautiful gardens overlooking Ruby Bay. We were only able to stay two nights and, after long busy days sightseeing and catching up with friends, it was bliss to return to our quietly elegant suite. The room had a lovely private deck, luxuriously comfortable beds, very comfortably easy chairs and a spectacular bathroom featuring a one- way glassed window over looking the view and gardens.
As other reviewers have commented, Margaret is a charming hostess, Although we didn't dine in we did enjoy our two breakfasts especially the choice of fresh local fruit salad, delicious local preserves and choice of breads. After days of marvellous Nelson hospitality, we opted out of cooked breakfasts in consideration of our waistlines.
It was interesting to learn that Margaret grew up in the Tasman area and is very well versed in its history and many wonderful attractions attractions. She and her husband have also travelled extensively and have a clear idea of what we were looking for as guests.

We loved Horton too! How could one not? Horton is a very engaging, beautifully trained, Schnauzer who escourted us to our suite the first night and waited patiently outside our room the following morning before accompanying us to breakfast .
Thank you Margaret for having us to stay we would not hesitate to recommend 'The Foxes' to others.
