Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We wanted to visit the moeraki boulders and stay overnight near by. We found moeraki Boulders motel only 5 minutes drive away from the Boulders.
It a simple and maybe a wee bit dated but a fantastic no frills motel that was perfect for our needs. Steve the owner was very welcoming and friendly and the unit was clean and comfortable.

A great place for a one or two night stay. The units are complete and reasonable comfortable. TV, WIFI, Heater, two seats bench, dining table with three seats, complete kitchen and bathroom and one sleeping room with a queen size bed and a single bed in the living. The laundry room with dryer is free of charge, only for the dryer we paid 1 dollar. The hostess is very helpful and friendly. Lot's of natural atractions in the neighbourhood, we recommend this place.

Room Tip: No preference, all rooms are good, more to the back means further from the road.

The motel was spacious, well-equipped, and great location for visiting the Moeraki Boulders. The host was very welcoming, gave us a lot of good information about the area, and the chocolates and bottle of water waiting for us in the room was a special touch. It was quiet and clean, and was easy to get to the beach and lighthouse.
I would definitely stay here again.

Not the ideal place to stay in winter. Room was freezing. Heater was timed for 2 hours only, so constantly woke cold. Gave up at 3.30am and left because the car was warmer.
But they were clean and tidy and friendly owners

My husband, myself and our 2 year old spent 1 night here while attending a relatives 60th birthday. We found the host extremely friendly. Loved the freddo frogs and complimentary bottle of water - it was a lovely touch. The room was very clean and heated up quickly with the heater. Comfortable bed - the only complaint I would have is the pillows were extremely hard so I did not sleep well. Even though this motel is very close to the main road we heard no road noise at night - it was very quiet.
Very handy with the supermarket right next door and the boulders just down the road. Would definitely stay here again

The site was easy to find and centrally located. The hosts are outstanding. Friendly and welcoming but not intrusive.

Three parts of one family visited (in three units) for Christmas. We all had dogs and the children ranged in age from 5 - 14 years. The unit we had has a great bathroom but no kitchen. It's not suitable for a long stay unless you (as we did) have the kitchen in another unit available to you. Since we shared meals it didn't really impact us. The others had two bedroom units with a really generous kutchen, dining, lounge area and another bed.

On Boxing Day our numbers swelled to 18 for lunch. There was enough tableware for us all (by pooling resources) and the adjacent 4 square provided anything we had forgotten. (They also make amazing ice cream in a cone).

Highly recommended.

Stayed for 24 hours in order to visit the boulders at low tide.
Spacious, clean, well equipped motel unit. Quiet street just off the main road. Minutes walk from well stocked supermarket, Intercity bus stop, super cafe ( daytime), meals available in local tavern ( not tried by us).
Short walk down to the sea, then lovely walk along the beach when tide half out to the boulders.
Friendly and helpful owners.
Well worth a visit.

We stayed here for one night in a deluxe room, and were impressed by the size of the room, the comfort and cleanliness of the facilities (which were all new and up to date). King-sized bed, large TV, coffee and tea supplied, clean and spacious bathroom. The owner was also very friendly and gave us plenty of information for what to see and do in the local area. I don't usually enjoy motel stays, but if I was passing through Moeraki again and needed to stay I'd stay here.
