It seemed to offer what we wanted. The option for self catering or eating out at excellent value for a ski resort.
What we got surpassed expectations.
I completed reviews beforehand and asked a few questions of the hotel all of which were promptly answered.
I therefore knew what to expect in terms of the small kitchen etc.which was as described and just about fit for purpose.
We cooked in three times without issue.
The rooms are more than adequate and when judged against other ski accommodation better than many ( reflecting price paid) . The views are spectacular and yes it is a little out of the centre but it is a lovely stroll or served by a regular bus service up to 545 and costing 8.50 euros a week.
Our skis were left for free just off the slopes and boot lockers cost 12euros each.
That meant the car was securely locked away in the hotel garage all week. ( well worth the price paid).
Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
There was a nice little bar with a great bar tender and generous measures ( at very reasonable cost) and snack food on offer along with a games room, table tennis table etc.
There was a free to use gym ( not sure how after a days skiing) and a sauna which incurred a charge but we did not use.
Oh the noise issue is , in our view, barely noticeable unless,I’m guessing, you have inconsiderate neighbours. In fact I have nothing negative to add at all about the Palace at all.
What I did not expect , given we had booked apartments, was a nightly entertainment Programme run by a super little team who we got to know well. It always surprises me that many chose not to partake given it was a lovely end to most evenings.
In fact they offer guided ski and resort trips and even night club accompaniment all as part of the service. ( they do sleep sometimes)
A special mention to Chiara and Christian who worked tirelessly, along with the rest of the team , to make our holiday special.
It was my birthday whilst we were there and Chiara made sure everyone knew ( in a good way).
Hats off to Sestriere Palace, you were all we asked for and more.
We put a load in to wash and the time to wash said 3 hours to wash. We figured no way 3 hours. We kept checking to see if wash was done. We put the wash a little before 8. At 10:30 we came down and power to the whole room was off and washer was locked closed so we could not get our laundry out until the next morning which meant we had to wash them again. Totally idiotic. A 3 hour wash and cutting of power so you can’t get the wash out. Who does that. Go to the desk ask for help. Doesn’t speak a word of English. Sends a text to another person they text back wash is over at 9. They can’t get their wash until 9 the next morning. Totally ridiculous.
The view from the place is unbelievable - the alps are right in front of you, and all around you. They were snow capped when we visited, and so beautiful.
The front desk/ reception lady was so welcoming, efficient and helpful, assisting us in english. She recommended places for us to go to, and we followed her good recommendations of going over to Briancon in France for a day, and also going into Turin for a day ( catching the train from Oulx).
We also went through to Bardonecchio for a day, which was really pretty.
The Forte di Fenestrelle is a real show stopper to visit too.... you need at least a half day for the 3 hour tour.
The apartment ( with 2 bedrooms) was basic, but perfectly functional, with most of what one required. There is no oven/ microwave/ toaster or kettle in the kitchen ( they can be hired for extra) .
The bedding was nice, and the bathroom looked refurbished.
The internet signal in the apartment was no good, but we could hire a device, so that we could get signal in the apartment.
For skiing, Sestriere seems ideal.
Rooms are fine, with all the commodities to not live in a mess for a week: ski box, deposit for boots, multiple car place. The bar is operative until late.
It is situated at 5 minutes walk from the city center and 10 minutes walk from the starting of the slopes, but there also is a bus stop in front of it in case you don't want to walk.
Very fair price.
