We booked two rooms on two seperate occasions before and after our cruise from Venice. The hotel rooms was very clean and quiet. We arrived early on both occasions (10 am) and the owner got the rooms turned over by 11 am for us. Basic clean rooms with nice size bathroom (small showers), and satillite TV. The location was very good, and just a short 3 min. walk from airport bus that we took to and from the airport. It is a 6 euro ticket each way. The train station is about a 7 min. walk, and we took the train there to Venice several times that cost 1 euro each way.. I have stayed in Venice proper several years ago, but hotel prices have gone crazy there, so we found the Hotel Martello instead at about 1/3 the price of a similar Hotel in Venice. There is a nice supermarket about a 10 min. walk from the hotel, but not many places to eat that are close because it is primarily a residentail area, which is clean and safe. The owner gave us a map of Venice, and explained how to get the buses and trains, all without even asking! Free internet was also useful. I would stay here again.

Yes, it isn't in the old city, but it's a 12 minute train there. The hotel is really cheap, the staff is friendly and the air conditioning works really well. The air inside the hotel was really moist though, so our clothes didn't dry. If you're on a budget (and the train to the old city is free with the Interrail global pass) use this hotel!

After booking the hotel, I started to read in different places what a bad idea and time consuming it was generally to be staying in Mestre, so I was a bit worried. Luckily this place turned out to be really well connected to Venice one really means and desires as tourist. The frequent buses and trains located nearby give you good alternative so you can get to island or back in only around 15 minutes. Worth saving money with this hotel as you would pay more outside Mestre. And yet, thanks to the location, you don't have to worry about coming back to hotel instead of enjoying your evening in Venice. The owners were nice, caring and informative, the rooms were clean and well maintained. Nothing to complain really. if I am ever going to be coming back to Venice, it will be my first choice for accomodation.

Horrible and rude is what I remember of this hotel. The room itself was not that bad. I have been to worst. It was the service and rudeness that absolutely made me feel disgusted and wish no one to experience it.

My friend and I are most usually very polite and well mannered. We were traveling around Europe for a month and never had a problem communicating with other people in other hotels even when they did not speak English. But we were yelled at here when we tried to reason with them! I would never imagined to be yelled at by someone who works at a hotel, especially since the hotel is "family run" and prides itself in being friends of the guests.

I picked to stay at this place after reading good reviews on here but I guess the reviews are outdated. They were just mean people and I would never go back.

Though it's on the mainland, the hotel has a decent location, being a 5-7 minute walk away from the bus stop where you can take the very frequently running 6 or 6/ to Venizia St Lucia. It's also about the same distance from the Mestre train station where pretty much every train to or from Venezia st lucia stop. The breakfast is quite good and reasonably priced. And there's a little cafe + restaurant called Cafe Verra a couple of minutes away with some great food.
What we were most impressed with, however, was the excellent service and advice provided to us by our hostess. My first impression of her was that of my high school headmistress. It was further reinforced a minute later when she sat us down, pulled up a map and proceeded to give us the most thorough understanding of the city, Martello's location, the attractions, transport facilities and dining places I have ever had in 15 minutes. She speaks French, Italian and English with great fluency, so communication shouldn't be an issue. We got to know her better over the next couple of days and built a wonderful acquaintance with a lovely lady. Great place. Will DEFINITELY stay here again.

Wife and I spent four nights at the Hotel Martello. We have previously stayed inside Venice at several different B & B's at twice the price and half the value. This hotel is also located in a quiet residential area with no buses or busy street traffic in the area. The staff at Martello is very friendly and English speaking. They provide lots of good information on how to easily get into Venice. We did not take the 5 euro breakfast special because we had just arrived for the US and slept late past the breakfast times. There is a small cafe a block away that we would get our morning cafe, etc, on the way to the bus stop. The Martello is located on the mainland, one 10 min train stop from Venice. Or the bus stop is actually closer, a 5 min walk, train, 10 to 15 min walk. Cost 1 euro each way to Venice, buses run every 15 to 20 min, even on Sundays. We took the bus most times. We also eat in a local restaurant two blocks away called Pizza Capri. Great selection of Pizzas, more than 80 + selections. Also had great selection of other Italian foods. We ate there several times. I would get there around 7 or before, they open for dinner at 5 pm. The place starts to get packed from about 7:30 and on with the local population. Another indication that it is a great place to eat. Prices are also half of what you will pay in Venice. Don't miss this place!

I stayed there with 2 friends durign the Venice Carnivale. The location is excellent, a 2 min walk to the bus stop and the bus or train (5 min walk) takes you over to Venice in no time. The hotel was clean and quiet. Mr. Martello was extremely nice and helpful. The room was clean, bright and the tv worked well but the phone didnt. The washroom was roomy but the shower was just the shower head in the wall...there was no actual shower or shower curtain so everything gets when when you shower. But i would stay there again and i would recommend it to others. But do not expect to get any food around the hotel area.

Martello is great hostel, the best in Mestre, cheap and not far from the train station ( about 600 m walk ) I sent one night in this hotel and I enjoyed it. Venice is not far, only 15 minutes bus ride (1.50 euros). No breakfast or restaurant in the area bring food with you. The only problem with this hotel is the bathroom ( only one for the whole floor )

LOCATION: Easily accessible from Mestre station upon arrival. Bus stops are close by to get over to Venezia for the day with frequent services. Not many options nearby for breakfast/lunch/dinner however available delivery from Deliveroo with more variety. Hotel staff were really good with giving us directions especially as we are not local or even from Europe.

ROOM: We had booked a mixed 8 bed dorm and as 2 females the lady at reception had put us in a smaller private room with two single beds which we appreciated so much and were able to get a nicer sleep... Beds weren’t overly comfortable however did the job for the 3 nights we stayed. We had to use the communal/share bathroom which stunk of urine constantly however was nice and large so could move around easily. The shower had no hot water on the last night when we stayed but the hotel management were quick to giving us another shower with hot water. Bedding and linen was just enough to keep us warm. No safety lock box in room.

OVERALL: I would definitely stay here again if I was visiting Venice on a budget because of the friendly staff and the fact that it is so accessible to get in and out of the area. 4/5 very good for a 2* hotel.
