Detailed Reviews
The hotel from the outside wouldn’t look out of place in a communist country and doesn’t look very inviting, however the rooms are very nice and spacious. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage areas. There was a coffee machine safe and mini bar fridge. Complementary water was also provided.
However, despite the recent renovation, the hot water system is a disaster! When we tried the shower it was cold. Very cold. My wife showered and by the time she had finished the water was slightly warmer. We mentioned the issue to the reception who at first said they didn’t know of why it would be cold and suggested that as it’s all new it must be air in the pipes. Later the excuse changed to “it started Friday evening” and later again they said it was an issue they can not solve. When I said “bad by design” the receptionist said that was correct. The second day we let the water run for 30 minutes before showering and the water was a lot warmer after that time. Leaving the water running longer provided warm enough water to wash my hair.
Breakfast was ok but there is no coffee machine in the breakfast room. It has to be ordered from one of the waiter and can take 10 or more minutes to arrive!
The car park is scruffy and officially has no EV charging but I found a domestic outlet where I was able to slow charge overnight.

+1
The Mercure Hotel President Lecce was part of our group tour to southern Italy. We stayed here for two nights. It was a large hotel with a significant sized lobby and seating/dining area. The room I received was of a substantial size, spacious with adequate lighting and a significant number of outlets for charging. There was also more than enough closet space. There was a large bathroom, bidet+ along with a hair dryer. The raindrop shower was very nice and there was adequate water pressure. The bed was comfortable and I was impressed with the coffee and tea service in that real cups were provided as opposed to disposable paper. There was also a nice coffee and tea selection provided. There is also a nice comfortable chair provided in the room. More towels could have been available but the hotel is striving to decreasing the amount of washing and detergent used. One disturbing feature, however, at least in my room was that conversations could be heard from other rooms well into the night. They were not clear, but muffled, but annoying nonetheless. I can usually fall asleep so this doesn't bother me but could be a problem for other guests. The breakfast provided was very filling with multiple choices. We did not dine here so I cannot comment on the dinner service. I would recommend and return.

Overall well recommended. Location is on a popular modern main street which leads straight into the historic centre in about 10-15 minutes walk. Rooms are good sized and recently refurbished except for the bathrooms in top floors 5 and 6. So do your best to get a room on the lower floors. Food is generally good but beware that 'a la carte' takes ages especially at the bistro bar. A club sandwich took close to an hour to arrive lunch time. The highlight of the hotel is a guy called Tonio. He is the factotum. So pleasant and efficient. At one moment he is sweeping the lobby in the next he is repairing our tv set or helping people with their luggage and the lift. Tonio is the essence of the meaning of Hospitality.

Despite the promise of a recently refurbished hotel, although the lower floor is now all gleaming marble, sadly the rooms appear to have been 'recycled' rather than refurbished.
During my stay in May for five nights there was never any hot water and the bath/shower diverter was faulty resulting in a tepid dribble from the shower. On arrival, other than a liquid soap pump by the sink, a shower cap and a very tiny bottle of shampoo there were no other toiletries supplied.
The aircon was non-existent on the first night and the staff, whilst trying to be helpful, did not seem to know what to do - other than call the engineer.
It's not a quiet hotel: the rooms all seem to have a connecting door to their adjacent room and conversations, etc., can be clearly heard through them. The street outside is busy with traffic and there are local late night bars nearby.
On the positive side, food was reasonably good and the staff friendly and helpful.

Nice Hotel steps from the center of Lecce. Recently renovated with care the Hotel is ideal for those looking to be in Lecce without the troubling of finding a place to park. The Hotel has an underground parking facility easily accessible from the main building.

The real strong point of this hotel is the location and the kindness of the reception. Very close to Piazza Mazzini and close to Piazza S.Oronzo and therefore in the center of Lecce. Furthermore, having a private garage, you can easily go around the rest of Salento by car, sure of finding a place on the way back (15 euros/day). Four out of six floors have been renovated, they assigned me one of these. Very spacious room, renovated with attention to economy but pleasant in terms of aesthetics and comfortable in terms of space. Electrical system recovered so not all controls are accessible from the bed, air conditioning system not very efficient in fact the room and especially the bathroom was a bit cold. The fixtures were not included in the renovation and the room is a little noisy, perhaps less so on the higher floors. The bathroom is very spacious but with a really bad design. The toilets are very close making the bidet practically unusable (I attach photos) I hope they read the review and take it into account when renovating the other two floors. Sky in the room. In short, considering the cost, the offer in the center of Lecce, if you want a hotel and not a B&B, is to be recommended knowing the limitations set out above.

I stayed here for one night in August 2024.
To walk from the railway station to the hotel it’s about 25 minutes along main roads. The walk is flat. The hotel is located in an area to one side of the historical centre that appears to be a mixture of commercial and residential. There are shops around (not many restaurants, and I couldn’t find a supermarket). It’s about a 5-minute walk until you come across the main shopping centre and about ten minutes into the historical centre of Lecce where there are plenty of restaurants etc. The location is ok, ie close to the city centre, but to get to the hotel from the railway station it was on the “wrong” side of town.
I chose this hotel because it’s part of the Accor group and, as a member, I receive certain advantages. However, having stayed in numerous Mercure hotels across the world, this hotel really disappointed me. The good thing about the Accor hotels is that you know in advance what you're going to get if you stay in a Novotel, Mercure, Ibis etc. This hotel did not live up to the usual Mercure standard.
In general, the hotel needs a refresh. Both internally and externally it’s quite Stalinistic. With a large foyer and a huge dining area it appears to be suited for large tour groups, but it lacks the personal touch. The hotel might be ok for business visitors or groups/families, but not for a romantic get-away. When reaching my floor (with at one time only one of the two lifts working) the light in the corridor was off. I couldn’t see where my room was, although the light came on automatically as I approached. Nevertheless, my first impression was that it was scary.
The room was adequate but everything just seemed a bit old. At a time when I needed to do some ironing, I was disappointed to find that there was no iron or ironing board in the room. There was also no coffee machine. There was a small green light on the ceiling that remained on the whole time (what was its purpose?) and cast a light throughout the night, which made it difficult to sleep.
The breakfast was also quite disappointing with mostly cold food on offer, and not a lot of variety. Again, it felt as if the hotel was suited to catering for large tour groups. While not the fault of the hotel, there was a lot of noise from other guests in my corridor at night. I think they belonged to some type of group as some of the doors had post-it notes with the names of people and, in the morning, I found a huge pile of bags full of what appeared to be dirty clothing outside one of the doors (for someone to arrange laundry?). There was no lock or chain on the inside of my door and I was really concerned that someone might come in during the night if they chose the wrong room. Naturally the doors worked with a card but, for peace of mind, it would be good to install some other type of security device on the inside.
When returning to Lecce I will definitely look for a different hotel. Accor needs to do something to improve this hotel.

About 20 minute walk to the Old Town and the rooms were good and spacious. The bar/lounge/reception lacked atmosphere as the hotel seemed to be mainly geared to groups and conferences.
We had opted for half board for the 4 nights we were there but the meal choices, in the evenings, were very repetitive and the restaurant was either virtually deserted or very noisy from groups next door. We were disappointed at breakfast too that even though we had paid extra for a superior room we still had to pay extra for fried eggs, omelettes etc.

With my wife we consider the President the first choice during our stays in Lecce. Missing for some years, we appreciated the improvements due to the most recent renovations, both in the reception area and in the assigned room. The stay at the hotel is very pleasant thanks to the welcome, assistance, services and cleanliness of the entire structure. All the staff proved professional, patient and nice, from the reception, to the dining room and the cleaning staff, always impeccable. The presence of a competent and professional Management of the structure is perceived. At the end of this year's experience, we are even more convinced to return to the President in our future holidays and visits to Lecce and the magnificent Salento.

Knowing Lecce, it is the second time that my family and I have stayed at the Mercure President.
In addition to the beautiful location (2 steps from Piazza Mazzini), we personally believe that both the structure, the kitchen, the cleanliness, etc., are what is expected from such a structure.
But the strong point, at least towards us, is the availability, the courtesy, the passion that all the staff puts into it, starting from the director, the receptionists, up to the splendid Sign. Tonio, true and kind soul of the structure.
No one, at least in our experience, has shied away from providing quality and courtesy, so that the customer remains satisfied.
