In addition to the private beach the hotel has plenty of other great amenities including a large pool, wellness centre, poolside and beachside bars, a gym, friendly staff and sizeable, clean rooms - with excellent curtains to ensure a sleep-in when needed.
Cefalù itself was our favourite location in Sicily, and the Sea Palace is a very short walk to all the restaurants, bars and old town.
Due to flight times we arrived in the early hours of the morning and after a 2.5hr transfer we had to check in via the night porter which after what felt like a long journey was painless and we were quickly shown to our room.
Our room was clean and comfortable. The balcony overlooked the side of the hotel and got very hot in the afternoon.
We booked half board and ate breakfasts in the restaurant on the rooftop. Dinner was usually served in this restaurant. However on a couple of nights there was an event on at the hotel so we ate in the restaurant by the pool.
We did not experience any late night noise issues experienced in other reviews maybe because this was early in the season.
The hotel is in a great location overlooking the beach. The old town of Cefalu is a 10 minute walk away which was perfect for us. There was some filming taking place on the beach during the first few days of our stay which caused some congestion on the road outside the hotel which was a bit of a pain when you were trying to get back in and passed security.
We spent some time round the hotel pool which was pretty quiet and easy to get a sunbed. The hotel also had its own area on the beach which we didn’t use as it appeared to be blocked off due to the filming.
Being coeliac I have to follow a strict gluten free diet. This was never an issue the head waiter at dinner was fully aware. He would ensure dishes were adapted or the chef made me something different to avoid any contamination. The food was delicious. Thank you for looking after me!
Breakfast is made up of a continental buffet. However eggs and bacon were cooked to order. There were plenty of choice of fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries and cakes. Gluten free cakes and bread were available at breakfast time but please note you will have to ask for them. By about the 3rd morning the lady recognised me and would always make sure something was available. My only gripe was that the coffee was served via a coffee machine which was ok but not of a high standard I would have expected from this kind of hotel.
Overall a lovely hotel, good food and friendly staff in a great location.
We were lucky enough to be able to check in early, we got a massive room on the main floor with the biggest balcony I have ever had with a hotel over looking the pool on one side and then straight ahead you had old town and the sea.
There is a private beach area designated for the hotel, plus it’s sister hotel just down the road. They also provide free beach towels as long as you return them! Only downside was that part of the beach was a wee bit rocky so you couldn’t just walk in but they had a walkway of sandbags to make it easier to get into the water.
The breakfast was great and exactly what we needed to get us ready for a day of exploring. The hotel was in a perfect location, a short walk to the old-town along the water.
The hotel was very high tech and updated so you can tell they take pride in what they give to their customers. The staff were also extremely friendly, special shootout to (I think) the night manager who got talking to my other half about UFC.
Only downside to the hotel was the price shot up around the weekend, otherwise we were going to ditch our place in Palermo and stay in a Cefalù the rest of our trip. We ended up coming back to Cefalù by train from Palermo for a day and it was 10x busier than during the week so the price hike is understandable but you can’t hold that against them!
We will definitely be back!
We did book the 4* Victoria Palace which was next door but one, it's 6 years younger but had more of a, modern feel. We were annoyed that they'd merged us into the Sea Palace without notice. The pool area beach area of the 5* sea Palace is slightly better, but there's no much in it.
We liked the breakfast, felt sorry for the 1 lady who had to serve everything to everyone from the buffet as we couldn't help ourselves due to COVID rules.
Rooms were imacculate (although I really do not like bed spreads) duvets are do much better!
1 pillow each is a bit stingy though and no uk tv, could be my only complaint if I was being picky.
We lurrrrved the beach area,
the sun loungers with the built in face shades we really appreciated.
The sea was warm despite it being October.
Cefalu is beautiful. Lots, still open despite Covid. The gourmet supermarket behind the hotel was a great find too.
We drove from the airport, had free parking at the hotel and had a quick pitstop in Mondello for lunch and but more sun before catching the Plane Home.
Palermo Airport was great and getting through security at Manchester was a breeze with the new face and digital scanner terminals.
We do hope to come back soon. It really was, our fav late holiday spot.
Positives - close to the beach and the staff are quite pleasant , breakfast is excellent
Negatives - wifi is very intermittent, rooms are very dated , I wouldn’t book anything on the 3rd floor as the roof top seating area and fans are right above the rooms.
Back to the hotel! It is spotlessly clean and the rooms are well appointed. The staff are friendly and helpful and our check in and check out was seamless.
The breakfast was good with a limited choice of cooked food and a wide selection of continental style breads, hams, and cheese etc. Weirdly they also had a stunning array of cakes if you like that sort of thing.
The view from the breakfast room/restaurant is amazing as it is on the top floor. So you get panoramic views of the beachfront.
There are however, some qualities in this hotel which can only be described as negative, even poor.
If like me you like to exercise on holiday and you choose a hotel deliberately because it advertises a gym, then you will be disappointed. The gym is rubbish. There is one exercise bike and one treadmill. The bike didn't work properly and the treadmill was on the brink of collapse. There are some dumbbells and a squat rack with an Olympic bar and that's about it. If you advertise a gym, have a gym!
The weirdest thing in this hotel strangely is the water situation. You are not allowed to bring in more than one large bottle of water to your room. If you do, the reception staff will confiscate it, and let you have it back virtually one bottle at a time. This is nuts! They obviously want you to buy water from them at €3 per small bottle. Having said that it wasn't that surprising as the bar prices are ridiculous at €8.50 per pint.
Having said all the above, we had a wonderful week in Cefalu, but to be honest just used the hotel as a base.
"We got to the hotel via train, really easy as station is in the airport and the hotel is a 10 min walk or you can get a cab."Read full review
