Travellers' Choice
Sixteen suites and rooms spread over five houses inside the ancient walls of Fonterutoli provide guests with an opportunity to savour the ageless charms of a Tuscan borgo, where respect for tradition and attention to detail are paramount. They represent a distillation of Tuscan country style, with floors in original terracotta, family heirloom furniture, and superb views over hills, vineyards, olive trees and distant towers that are like living frescoes, making any stay here a unique experience. Our aim at Fonterutoli is to cultivate the kind of personal rapport which makes guests feel perfectly at home but also well looked after, in a place that offers unparalleled food and wine experiences.

My husband and I reserved a villa room with a balcony and view of the vineyards. It was absolutely perfect. What a view! Our good friends were in a suite on the 2nd floor in the same building and each night , they would come up to our balcony to enjoy a bottle (or two) of Italian chianti and watch the sunset. It was lovely. Both nights the four of us enjoyed dinner at the restaurant on site and the food was so delicious and well presented. Also our severs were very warm and welcoming. The morning breakfast was also delicious. The property is so charming with so many beautiful stone buildings that epitomize a tuscan villa. I would definitely return and stay longer.

We spent one night at the Castello di Fonterutoli. The neighbourhood is quite calm, just the road passing by brings some noise to the region. The guesthouse had several rooms in the attic. The premises are ok, but nothing too fancy. The bathroom would have needed intensive cleaning. The best part of the place was the restaurant and the upper building where eg breakfast was served. This place had nice views towards the olive trees. Breakfast was quite good but strange thing is that eg. plain omelette costs extra (the place is not the cheapest so it could include this sort of meals). If you are lookinf a lot to do, then is place is not for you. We tasted some wines there and just hang out in our room and had a really lovely dinner at the restaurant. Try the tiramisu, it was super good. Things to improve: service at the winebar (we had to wait a lot and the staff did not focus on the customers) cleanliness of the bath room and pillow

What a special treat this bed and breakfast was for the last three days of our 16 day Italian adventure. Our room was amazing with a beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside. The staff could not have been friendlier or helpful. The wine tour was an added bonus!

Really, I was in love from the first minute to the last - what a charming place! A perfectly preserved slice of medieval time, but a real village with lovely people and all the modern conveniences in the B&B rooms. I stayed in Rose, which is a room the shared villa with 3 others - huge kitchen to cook if you're so inclined. Breakfast was across the street with a terrace (and delicious) and the Mazzei wine tasting well worth it. There are even horses to ride if you'd like to complete the package :)

Serenity exudes in this secluded area of Tuscany - a perfect escape in the most beautiful of hamlets where time has stood still for generations. If you want complete relaxation then this is the place for you. You are staying within a working village that has produced the Mazzei Wine for hundreds of years. Some of the rooms are older and more traditional, with a massive shared rustic lounge area and kitchen. There are also more contemporary rooms available dependent on your choice. But if you want Bars clubs and TV then this is NOT the place for you. There is a bar that offers food and drinks from dawn to dusk in a cosy local atmosphere. The restaurant is of a very high standard and I strongly recommend the tour of the vineyard. Friendly staff make this a must in my opinion. Location is ideal as whilst offering a picture perfect setting and a peaceful haven at the same time this Albergo Diffuso is located only a few kilometres from Castellina in Chianti and only a 20 minute drive to Siena and all its grandeur. Castellina di Fonterutoli is a true Tuscan treasure!
