My friend and I stayed three nights here and we were looked after SOOO well by Gaelle and her gorgeous team. We were given a huge, modern bungalow with the most GLORIOUS hot water system we nearly cried it was so amazing (we had just spent two weeks roughing it in the bush exploring another island). They have good quality SUP's and kayaks available to check out the various blue holes that are nearby. The hammocks and swings hanging from the trees over the beach/water at high tide will gain you at least a billion likes on insta if that's your thing ;) Gaelle's breakfasts she put on every morning were delicious, freshly made bread, organic homemade jams, seasonal fruit and smoothies, and various cereals and muselis were available. Don't forget unlimited organic Tanna Coffee! (again, this was something we had been without for some time and when we saw the plunger we nearly died with excitement). The common area where we sat down for breakfast or to read books from the bookshelf was its own waterfront bungalow. Exquisitely furnished with a mixture of traditional carvings, bowls and baskets contrasting with beautiful modern and handmade tables, chairs and crockery. You get given your own pantry and part of the fridge to store your groceries for other meals when you're not eating out. There are extensive cooking utensils available and allllll the pots, pans, enormous gas ranges and whatever you want to cook up a storm! We didn't get around to it but if you bothered to go fishing the oven could probably fit a wahu in that oven. I can't wait for the borders to open back up and take my Mum and my Grandma for an awesome girls holiday!…
We both truly totally enjoyed ourselves whilst staying at Matevulu,,, The great island styled bungalows were spacious, very clean, Fantastic views of the water and lagoons, you can watch the sunrise from your bed,,,, or balcony which is only metres to the beach and waters. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Or just layback and enjoy the serenity that Matevulu has,, The breakfasts (included) are amazing the coffee as well,,,, Gaelle is a fabulous host & extraordinarily helpful,,,,, We’ll be returning as soon as it’s feasible,,,, Would recommend staying here to anyone looking for the definitive island paradise holiday,,,, PeterM & Anita 🎣🏖👣🌴🌅☀️🇦🇺🇻🇺
stunning location, waking up in the morning to a beautiful bay, swim before and after work . cant get any better than that. really cool lounge and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen. great hosts. highly recommend anyone heading to Santo to stay here.
My wife and I stayed 2 nights in the large bungalow with our 11 year old son. The bungalow was spacious and comfortable with steps down to the beach for easy swimming. Everything was perfect here..the view is fantastic and the shared kitchen is full of local art. The breakfasts were delicious and the host was charming. This is an absolutely amazing place to take a break. Relaxing and beautiful.
Our international vacation plans were cancelled because of covid-19 border closings, so we looked for a place to go for a local holiday here on Santo. Our choices were limited to places that allow children. Matevulu Lodge was nearly the only available option that also offered self-catering. We could not have made a better choice. Edouard and Gaëlle’s hospitality was peerless. They both speak good English and Bislama in addition to their first language, which is French. They provided a continental breakfast every morning that featured Gaëlle’s delicious homemade tropical fruit jams. We cooked our own meals otherwise, including meals cooked on the grill with firewood they supplied. This allowed us to control the ingredients of the food we ate, as well as keeping our costs down. The communal kitchen is beautiful and well-equipped. The repaired and cleaned buildings and grounds are a visual respite from the hurricane damage that still exists in other parts of the island. We stayed in the Flaoa Bungalow, which comfortably accommodated the three of us—and I do mean comfortably. The mattresses were fantastic! The ensuite with shower is very spacious. We really appreciated Edouard’s efforts to try and make the water heater work perfectly. Although he was frustrated by lack of proper replacement parts on the island, we did have limited hot water at our disposal. The bungalow has full length windows on the ocean side to allow both the view and the breeze to pass through. There are heavy drapes to block out the sunrise if you want to sleep in, and good flywire to make the bungalow mozzy-proof as long as the doors were closed. We burned a mosquito coil for an hour or so each night to kill the mozzies that came in the door with us, but after that we could put the coil out and breath clean ocean air. The bungalow has beautiful hardwood floors and a veranda just a few steps up from the beach. The bay in front of the Lodge is shallow and sandy a long way out. This makes it a perfect place for kids to swim. The Matuvor River enters the bay a short distance to the right, and the mouth of the river makes another great swimming hole. A relatively short paddle up the river leads to the Riri Blue Hole. Two small islands are easily accessible in the bay between the Lodge and Oyster Island. There were so many things to do within wading or paddling distance that we never used automobile transportation between our arrival and departure. However, we know there are many more attractions just a short drive away. Our week at Matevulu Lodge was the best local vacation we have ever had during our eleven years in Vanuatu.…
