Detailed Reviews
Ok so first I would like a special thank you to the Chateau Owner Suzzette and also Nicholas. They made this trip as special as we had hoped it would be.
My partner, her two brothers and I made the pilgrimage to Bordeaux for the much hailed Euro 2016 tournament. We're Welsh so obviously getting into a major tournament doesn't happen very often, so we bought the tickets and made our way to the adventure in Bordeaux!
Initially we had booked an airport hotel but I saw Chateaux Le Lout on Booking.com and decided for this trip we needed something a bit special and more befitting the occasion.
The Chateaux was reasonably priced with a pool so naturally, we thought this place could be our Oasis in Bordeaux.
We arrived after the wonderful Ryanair flight about 1 hour late. I rang up and asked if they had some food available , given the late arrival and no food available at the airport. We arrived to be met by Suzzette and her dogs on the steps of this regal looking Chateau. The first question was of course 'Are we at the right place?'
Thankfully we were and they didn't just turn us away! After pleasantries, we were ushered through the beautiful hallway onto the back veranda where a candle lit feast awaited. Wine, and a gourmet selection of food under the moonlight was the start of our adventure in Bordeaux. After eating the fayre and drinking fine wine into the early hours we made our way to our rooms which were equally impressive.
Breakfast was served in another impressive room with several guests who were also staying there. The breakfast again was amazing, yogurt, fruit, omlettes (very filling) with, coffee tea etc( too much food to go into in detail ) and also a chance to meet your fellow guests. We were lucky enough to meet an Austrian players parents also staying for a few days so interesting company.
OK so to the chateau. There are two sitting rooms to enjoy as well as the extensive grounds should you fancy a morning constitutional. The wine cellar was a popular stop as was the 100 plus inch TV and bar next to it in the basement.
The pool was great with a Cabana area undercover if you have kids and have had too much sun. The bar/fridge is stocked and you basically keep a tally of your drinks and settle up at the end of your holiday. We managed 120 euro for food, beer and various bottles of Bordeaux Wine 3 days in total so a bargain I would say.
In terms of service nothing was too much trouble. You can have food by the pool or in our case a packed lunch to take to he stadium. Suzette is South African and was charming and engaging, again nothing was too much trouble plus speaking English was a real help to the Brits without any useful language skills.
Nicholas helped us get a taxi when the bus didn't turn up and normally I believe they have the car to help with travel, on this occasion it was in the garage but they were more than willing to help where they could.
We took a bus in Bordeaux on one occasion, its a 10 minute walk from the Chateaux to the bus stop then a 45 minute journey for roughly 1.50 euros. You need to pay the driver than he gives you a paper ticket which you must stamp to validate your journey. Coming back was interesting, the bus was packed but this was the Euro's.
If you're going to do the wine region then you may think about a hire car and a designated driver to fully enjoy the surroundings. That said we would have been happy relaxing by the pool most of the time and raiding the extensive Wine cellar.
The place itself has a colourful history with the Chateaux being home to German officers during the war. There are lots of books to read illustrating this also.
The Chateaux has decent Wifi available also.
So That it I promised Suzzette I would review her place but know that next time I probably would be able to get a room as the secret would be out. We will definitely go again as its a perfect retreat for Wine lovers or sports goers.
If you go please be appreciative of the place and its lovely owners!

High quality accommodation in an exquisite location.
Were made to feel extremely welcome in what is, at the end of the day, someone's home.
The rooms are beautiful and the common areas (lounge; dining room) just spectacular.
Oh - I ticked a box that there's no indoor pool - but there is a fantastic outdoor one, complete with bar & even a barbecue if you want to do you own thing one evening.
The breakfasts were great (different each morning unless you ask for the same one!).

We are a group of 7 friends who stayed here for 4 nights for the Marathon-du-Medoc. The chateau was absolutely beautiful, very welcoming and classy. The hospitality of the owner Suzette was incredible, so warm and friendly. We had many nice chats, we shared our laughters and happiness.
Delicious breakfasts were served in a spectacular dining room and the food was different every day.
We enjoyed a lot at the outdoor pool in one afternoon with the pink sunset sky, that was so unforgettable!
I liked whilsting out on our room (Listrac) balcony looking out over the meadow.
Last but not least, we have to mention that we already missed Suzzette's adorable pets which each of them had its own character.
Lovely building, wonderful people and animals, great value for money - highly recommended.
Big thanks to Suzette, please let us know if you got a chance to visit Hong Kong. We look forward to meeting you again. Take good care!
