Detailed Reviews
We stayed in the Kowhai Suite for five nights and it was just lovely - our hosts, the room, the location, everything.
We hadn’t been to this area before and it was literally a hop, skip and a jump to the start of Abel Tasman National Park.
There’s an assortment of accommodation at Abel Tasman Lodge - studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms and the kowhai suite so something for everyone and all well priced too.
There’s a communal kitchen available which is great, it’s well kitted out and is modern and clean - if you use it make sure you clean up after yourself that way it stays nice for everyone.
Each chalet has its own outdoor deck and the grounds are a lovely outlook.
The Abel Tasman Lodge website is really useful telling you everything you need to know about their location, what’s nearby and what’s in each chalet.
You will love your stay here and won’t want to leave.

Abel Tasman Lodge is probably the best place I have stayed at in NZ. It’s location so close to the national park is fantastic, and it is also in walking distance of the restaurant, takeaway, kayaking operators and water taxis in Marahau.
Rooms were very clean and well maintained - ours had a beautiful outlook over to the national park. The communal kitchen and bbq area are awesome and well worth using (especially as there is limited dining out options), the Weber bbqs are great and easy to clean, and the outdoor eating area is lovely. Kitchen has all you need - make sure you pick up supplies in Motueka as there are no supermarkets close by! During our stay we were able to access the kitchen at almost any time.
The hosts are very friendly and knowledgable, and clearly have a passion for what they do. They showed great flexibility with a few things we asked for and made us feel very welcome - we wished we had booked for longer, and will definitely go back again.
I have been lucky enough to see a great deal of NZ, and this place, genuinely, is my top spot.

We stayed at the Abel Tasman Lodge for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Everything about it was prefect. Scott and Jocelyn are excellent hosts, friendly, welcoming and professional. Nothing is too much trouble, they go out of their way to make your stay the best possible.
The lodge is very close to the Park entrance and near several places to eat. We loved Hooked.
Our bedroom was lovely, complete with high end linens in vibrant colours, very comfortable and plenty of nice touches to make our stay a comfortable one. The bathroom was well appointed, quality toiletries and towels for the bath and hot tub. Comfortable sofa in the lounge and well equipped kitchen, with coffee maker and fresh milk in the fridge. Nice private outside sitting area, with a lovely view.
We had our breakfast delivered to our room on a tray, delicious breakfast and nicely laid out.
Jocelyn booked a massage for me, which was excellent and I’d definitely recommend it.
Scott, Jocelyn (and her parents!) plus the staff, make the Lodge a lovely, welcoming and relaxing place to stay. Would 100% recommend.

This small lodge is an absolute retreat right next to Abel Tasman. Both owners are extremely helpful and friendly and have thought about every detail. The rooms are modern and very clean and thanks to an automated bio bug repellent dispenser we hadn’t seen any unpleasant visitors at all. The kitchen and BBQ facilities are great (e.g. 2 Weber Gas Grills). Additionally everything is well organized and convenient.

Stayed 3 nights in Abel Tasman lodge. The accommodation was spotless, modern and very comfortable. Hosts were very helpful booking trips, recommending places to eat and even advising on our journey for our next location. Abel Tasman is a fantastic place to visit and the lodges must be one of the best places to stay. Also must mention the amazing burgers at the Fat Tui..

+1
After a few nights in Kaiteriteri we headed around the corner to Mārāhau - I was worried it was a little too far out but having spent time in both places quickly saw why people stay here. You’d think Kaiteriteri would be where it’s at and of course the beach is beautiful but I would base myself here on my next visit it feels much more peaceful and relaxing and Joss’s welcome made it extra special. On arrival she even rang the local shop to make sure they hadn’t closed so I could pop in and buy some last minute essentials, already you get that sense of a small community spirit. The lodge was clean, fresh modern and the bed was so comfortable it has everything you need she had the heating on and explained everything to us about the local area and we felt really welcome it was so nice. The hot tub was brilliant you book a slot which is great and you get 30 minutes to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery it feels so special I loved hearing all the wildlife and birds and frogs etc. we took a walk to the local bar and had a lovely drink overlooking beautiful views and literally at the start of the abel Tasman track it felt amazing, we walked back In the dark and saw all the stars it felt so cool to be out in the middle of nowhere having enjoyed a lovely fish and chips and beer and walking back to a warm cosy room. The tv in the room is small and the sofa isn’t the most comfortable but I’m nit picking as it’s not about watching tv and sitting on the sofa to watch tv - Joss welcome feedback and was so enthusiastic about making it comfortable and special they have worked so hard and you can tell they pour their heart and soul into it. I think if you want to have peace and quiet and shut off from the world, have great food and access to the National Park and have a comfortable stay where you can either eat out or cook yourself here is perfect and it’s easy to head over to Motueka for the day or Takaka and even see the Riwaka Resurgence etc it’s a great place to explore and base yourself. I also loved the deck we sat out and enjoyed a wine and had the sun pouring in again just loved it. Highlight of some of our stays AND finally got to do a walk on the Abel Tasman. Thanks again Joss we will be back again for sure !

Jocelyn and Scott are great hosts. The lodges are very comfortable, especially the bed! The bathroom was modern and the views from the terrace were lovely. Having breakfast delivered to our room in the morning was a real treat. A laundry on site was very useful and providing beach towels was so thoughtful.
The lodges are a short walk from the beach, the National Park, and two good places to eat. Although there are a variety of activities in the area, the lodge site is quiet and peaceful. If We came to this area again, this is where I would want to stay.

Really wonderful accommodation provided by Jocelyn and Scott in beautiful Mārahau. All the things you need have been carefully thought about and provided in the beautifully designed studio rooms which lead out to a large native garden (home to friendly weka and tui). You also have access to a fantastic shared kitchen and outdoor spa. The whānau provide fantastic information on their website and in the rooms about the location and really look after you. We had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you Scott and Jocelyn.

We loved our stay at Able Tasman Lodge over Christmas 2020, from the warm welcome we received on arrival to the tips we received for our onward journey on departure and everything in between. The chalets were spotless, comfortable and tastefully decorated and every little detail had been thought of. Our bed was exceptionally comfortable and I slept well all 4 nights (normally I struggle to sleep on my first night in a "strange" bed). We were sorry to leave but will be back!

We fell in love with Abel Tasman Lodge ! It was the last destination on our trip in the South island and was definitely the best place that we stayed at ! Jocelyn and Scott were so kind and helpful ! The chalet was really cosy and beautiful ! The kitchen that we could share with the other guests was very nice and clean ! There's also a laundry that you can use which is a life saver if you've been travelling for a couple of weeks like us. One of the best features is the hot pool that you can use even in the evening after a long walk in the park ! The lodge is 2 mins walking distance from the Aqua taxi station and the kayak stations which is perfect for the activities in Able Tasman and is also 5 mins walking distance from the entry of the park if you just want to go for a walk. We defintely recommend and we would defintely stay there again when we go back !
