Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's such an amazing vibe!!! Absolutely LOVED my stay here. I wish I could have stayed longer! The vibe, the staff, the veiws, everything was perfect. I've been all over the south island in my van, and this was BY FAR the best place I stayed at. The staff are super helpful, kitchens were clean, showers were hot (and included in the stay), and just The Barn itself is so homey 🥰🥰 I could see the Abel Tasman track from my campsite!! Cheers to The Barn!!! And Park Cafe for open mic night on Thursday 😘

Cabin was spacious, warm and spotlessly clean. However, for the $116 we paid, just a tea kettle, cups and some coffee would have been nice. Not even a couple of drinking glasses for a quiet drink before bed. Shop doesnt open until 8am, so nowhere in Marahau to get so much as a coffee if you are hitting the road early. Beautiful place. Aclean bed and a clean towel is what I would expect from hostel prices, not cabin/motel prices.

Thank you for your review Karen and we're glad you enjoyed the lovely clean cabins! Your feedback is great as it helps us to continue to improve. The price is for 2 people, including towels and all the quality linen, comfy top line beds, a free tourism booking office onsite, fully equipped facilities (hot showers!) and staying at the base of the most popular National Park in the country. I see you booked through a different agency so their fees were also added on to your total price. Our prices are also fluid in the different seasons so we hope to see you another time!

The booking said there was a patio, balcony & inner courtyard. At $116 a night we didn't get a balcony or inner courtyard. Our accomodation was more a family backpacker style. The facilities around the camp were good & staff were friendly. We would stay again but next time, question what we were paying for. Not whinging just stating an anomaly in description & pricing.

Thank you for your review Frank! I do see you booked through a different agency which is where the price difference may have been. We do offer different prices for each cabin type (these also change throughout the year). We do this to help suit most budgets and plans. We have camping, cabins, glamping and luxury self contained options all in one place! I see you booked a family cabin plus for 2 people (usually for 5 people) maybe because we were fully booked in a twin room that could have suited your price range more. There is also a large patio deck in front of your cabin that you booked, we can show you next time!

Well equipped place . Kitchen large and great for groups . No inside chill out area so when cooler at night , either dress warm or sit in your room. Double room I had very cost , bed fine for solo person . Suggest a queen room for a couple . Heating great and linen , pillows and towels lovely quality . Rooms very clean . Toilets and showers close by. Water pressure terrible for showers and get in first or have a cold shower . If in shower and toilets are flushed you can get scalded . Beach close by and start of National Park a bonus .

All in all a very solid campsite with an exceptionally good location! The campsite is located directly at the entrance to the Abel Tasman National Park and starting from here you can make beautiful tours in the national park. There is a water cab service in the village and a pizzeria not far from the campsite - probably the only one far and wide. Exactly but also this remote location offers here the possibility with clear skies at night to observe the stars including the Milky Way. It has very little "disturbing light" with which one sees the Milky Way very well. The camping site is well developed and has a lot to offer. There are several kitchens and sanitary facilities as well as a playground. The sanitary facilities are in a very good condition and extremely clean. We did not need the kitchen because of our camper. The camping site has a bit of a hippie charm and is quite uncomplicated. Behave yourself and be friendly, then you will have a very nice stay here - if you want incl. early morning yoga sessions. We do have to make two minor deductions though, as some corners like the clothes washing room could use a little love (including the machines). The place has limited wifi (250 MB free) but good wireless reception (antenna nearby I suspect). In short - I would come again :) PS: To the caravan people - unfortunately it has no dumping station on the camping site. You have to do your dumping in Motueka.

We love to come back here! It is such a treasure of nature and people. The beautiful green valley in the background, and the start of the Abel Tasman with the water in the Front. A great treat for the eye and the mind. We stayed in a lovely small cabin once and camped in our motorhome many times and we always have a great time!!! Our friends stayed in two of their glamping tents and enjoyed it do much they want to come back now as well. The team is doing so well to keep the place in great shape and always greet you with a sunshine smile! I would recommend everyone couples, families and friend groups to go to The Barn it’s a great place to spend your time thats for sure. The coffee is amazing too!! Saved me many mornings! Big thank you to the helpful and friendly team for making so many stays very pleasant and fun! See you hopefully soon and all the best!!

The barn is such a special place I will always say has the best view in town!! But its the whole vibe that the team fosters that makes this place so special! So many outdoor activities on offer great local knowledge onsite delicious coffee and yoga classes to help with all the tired bodies exploring the national park literally a stones throw away! We had a beautiful extended stay and my partners parents had the best time in the creek house when they came to visit so much so they have re-booked the same place for next time!! I have done a fair amount of traveling and by far the best camp ground I've stayed at!!
