Love this place and Rose is so welcoming and a wealth of information. She cannot do enough help, welcome and ensure everything is provided and taken care of.
The room has everything and beds are amazingly comfortable with excellent linen. All necessities are provided and the rooms are in a quiet and private setting. Great for access to the Abel Tasman Walk.

We stayed here the night before and the night after our walk which proved to be a great idea. Able Tasman Haven is ~ 600 metres from the highly recommended Park Cafe and the entrance to the Great Walk.
The accommodation was everything we needed, comfortable set up, Fridge, Microwave, Hot plate, Filtered water, Good shower and outdoor chairs and table. We were also able to leave our car here for the duration of our walk. Rose was a friendly host.

So close to the start of the Abel Tasman National Park, the beach and a few eateries. Hidden behind with the beautiful surroundings of the valley. The self contained chalet is well maintained with spotlessly clean bathroom, kitchen and bedding. The only downside could be the little fan and monitor-sized TV in the living room, if you are keen to watch TV on a hot night. But that didn’t bother us too much as it was cool at night and we would rather have some time out to the nature rather sitting inside. The enthusiastic owner and the friendly dog would definitely make you feel at home.

Lovely location, cabins are spotlessly clean and Rose is very helpful and friendly. It’s next door to Aqua Taxis from where you can get a boat to anywhere in the Abel Tasman National Park.
A really peaceful and comfortable place to stay.

I stayed at the Abel Tasman Haven over Easter weekend 2010 as part of my 2.5-week trip through NZ. I found the place on the web, and at first was a little leery because I couldn't find any reviews. But I had little choice because other places I looked at were fully booked. As it turned out, it exceeded all my expectations.

It is run by a kind lady Rose and her husband Bill. They live in a main house on the back, with three self-contained cottages up front available as accommodations. My clean and modern studio unit is very spacious, with a kitchen with utensils, a dining area, and a bathroom. it is modern and clean. There's a little patio right outside the unit, with a parking space next to it. The units are set far back from the main road, so traffic noises are minimal. The best part is it's a less than 10-minute walk from either the park entrance or the waterfront.

I asked Rose why there aren't any reviews on the web for her accommodation. She said that she has been doing this for 10 years, but that somehow no one has ever taken the trouble to post anything on the web, so I promised to put one up as soon as I got back from my vacation. Well, Rose, here it is!

I had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, spacious accommodation, very reasonably priced and right next door to the Abel Tasman Park.

Last year in 2012, one of my BFFs and I stayed at Abel Tasman Haven for our December getaway. We were there the whole of Christmas week, from the 19th right up until Xmas Day. We were a little nervous at first because of the lack of reviews online - frankly, we had no choice as we did our bookings a little late and everywhere else was fully booked. But our fears proved completely unfounded because we loved the place and we were so happy with Haven!

We got the biggest chalet and it was HUGE. Loads of space, soft, comfy beds, nice bathroom, and in the kitchen you'll find everything you need to whip up a simple meal like pasta and soup. It's about a 5-10 minute walk away from the Visitor Centre along the coast, where you'll also find a small grocery store inside for all your basic needs, from food to toiletries.

All that you intend to do/check out is within the area: kayaking, horse riding, treks, walks. If like us, you wanna do the seal swim by Abel Tasman Dive (run by Mark & Susie - extremely fun couple!) and/or skydiving in Motueka, the pick-up points are also within the area, so don't worry about that. TIP: do your bookings a day before, don't book anything online or way before the trip (except for seal swim and skydiving) because you'll have to look at the weather.

We found Rose, our host, to be the sweetest lady in the world. She took care of us and was very warm and hospitable. I have to point out that my friend and I were set to arrive on the 15th of December and stay in one of the smaller chalets, but because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to change plans at the very last minute. Rose was very understanding of this and when we arrived, she simply gave us the larger room so that we wouldn't have to move around from the smaller one to the big one. Service like that is rare nowadays and we really appreciated what Rose did for us while we were there!

I'd recommend Haven to anyone staying in the Abel Tasman area. I promise you won't regret it!

In a nutshell:

+ Excellent location, close to entrance of AB National Park, and bus pick-up spot to Motueka (via Abel Tasman Coachlines)
+ 3 eateries nearby, ALL serve awesome food (Park Cafe is highly recommended!)
+ Super spacious
+ Value for money
+ Loads of kitchen tools
+ Plenty of pillows, blankets
+ Great service (thanks Rose!)

- Payment mode for room reservation is a hassle - you'd have to call to book via credit card, no online system for this and forget about emailing - too risky
- No air-conditioning, tends to get very, very warm in the summer - but then again, this is a norm in NZ during summer I suppose
- Sandflies/insects all around, can't leave windows open to let cool air in - sad truth but oh well!
- No WiFi - another place nearby offers this, but you gotta learn to live without it eventually when travelling right?)

We stayed 2 nights in one of the cabins of this family business. Rose showed us the room and informed us about pretty much everything we would need to know when we arrived.

The room is very spacious with all necessary amenities including a kitchen. The bathroom was very functional. Outside we had a spacious veranda with a table and chairs. The area was very relax and quiet.

Rose was able to reserve a water taxi for us for the next day. We were also informed about the restaurants in the area.

We were able to meet most of the family during our stay (including Bella the dog), and we would be more than happy to stay here again in the future.

On our one night staying in the National park we stayed in one of the two detached cottages belonging to Abel Tasman Haven. The cottages were made of wood, but very cool in the heat, and we didn't even need to use the fan. The bed was superb and the shower and bathroom were fine. Everything perfectly clean. There were even cooking facilities, but we ate out. Coffee and tea, a parking space, perfect - we could easily have stayed longer. The owner was very helpful and friendly and the price was amazing.

My husband and I loved Cabin 3. Stunning views, amazing location, great friendly service. Good price, the host has thought of everything and is very helpful. Is self catering.
Is situated in a quiet area, but right next door to the water taxi and kayak companies so easy walk to the start of an Abel Tasman Kayak experience.
Thank you!!

We wanted to stay overnight in Marahau before starting on a four day, three night tramping trip up the Abel Tasman Coast Track. To be honest, there isn't much open up there in winter but we are glad we picked Abel Tasman Haven. The little cottages are very cute and spacious for a couple. The kitchen was well appointed and the shower excellent with plenty of hot water. Rose, our host, was very friendly and had some good insight into the area. The only slight problem was the handbasin in the bathroom was very small but that wasn't a big deal. Everything else was perfect and the cottage was spotless. It even had a little porch with a table and chairs to enjoy the outdoors. I'd stay there again even if other places were available.
