Meet Guido - owner and occupier of this Villa - it has been in his family since 1650 (he has a family tree on his wall). He is 78 but looks 15 years younger (something about the lifestyle here). We checked into our suite, a nice room with a spa bath. The only issue here is air-conditioning if you come in summer. It will be hot as will all the rooms here. Guido cooked for us on 2 of the nights and we drank his wine. We were charged on the way out which could have been awkward except the meals and wine were cheap for the quality we had. (He needs to be clearer over the charges up front). He doesn't speak any English but somehow we communicated well, especially after a few wines. He has a good heart, a beautiful outlook from his front porch, is a good cook and we loved his wine. Issues were the heat and the mystery over the charges but we got great value for what we paid. This is a truly authentic Tuscany experience. A short drive to Arezzo and a little bit further to Cortona, about an hour from Florence.…
Let's start with the only good point of the night we spent at B&B Il Castello : the room was quite modern and the bedding was good. Except that, it's been a terrible experience. We arrived at 3:30pm when our room was supposed to be ready at 2:00pm. We had the very bad impression to disturb the owner who was still getting dressed while he opened the door. The floor of the reception of the entry was full of dirty linen and towels, the breakfast table was still messy with all the empty jam pots, dirty cutlery, breadcrumps... Our room was of course not ready - according to the owner, due to the lack of employees on saturday... But which employees? We did not see any of them. The owner finally prepared our room in 15 minutes... In fact, he only changed the linen and the towels. Our room had not been cleaned. For exemple, the floor was still full of dust and small rocks, there was plenty of dust on all the shelfs... In the morning, the owner had the cheek to come to our room twice between 11:00 and 11:15, to make sure we'll leave on time !! Then, came the time to pay: we had the very bad surprise to discover that the owner did not know anything about Booking way of working and had to call them to settle the bill. As a conclusion; don't go to this place. It is not worth it!…
