Hotel's Favourite
5.0 of 5 bubbles
The other recent 5* reviews really express the same as we felt after staying at the Electra Palace.
It is very clear that this recently refurbished hotel has tried really hard to cover all bases to make a perfect stay.
They cannot please all of the people all of the time, but they certainly pleased our group of 4 adults.
Our favourite bits…..
Beach……Quiet beach areas with plenty of sun beds on the edge of a perfectly blue sea, very stony and pebbly beach, definitely take sea shoes. When it is windy the kite surfers come out to create a fascinating and skilful unscheduled show on the water. Numerous sun beds and lovely areas with groupings of chairs/sofas and tables, beach bar set near to all of the seating with plenty of bottled water at all times, coffee and cocktails.

Buffet restaurant……Thoughtfully and beautifully prepared savoury delicacies, a large choice of very tasty meats, pasta, sauces, fish, carvery area with pork, skewered fish, chicken, flavoured rices, to name just a few of the choices, jacket potatoes, dauphinois, chips (the potatoes and veg different in choice most days)
Our favourite bit were the small individual dishes filled with smoked salmon, tiny buttery pastry cases filled with creamed cheese, tiny salad pieces, creamed blue cheese and larger individual bowls of various different salads with plenty of dressings.
The desserts were equally well thought out and beautifully presented.

Breakfast was good, effort was put into changing the choices and my favourite was the omelette in the hot trays and the delicious mushrooms and tomatoes.
Porridge, fresh fruit, cereals, pancakes, honey, nuts, dried fruit, pastries, fresh lovely bread and rolls, bacon, sausage, eggs in all guises.
We always requested to sit at the exterior tables and only once was this not possible, seating was efficiently carried out.

We also enjoyed the buffet restaurant lunch, especially the delicate crustless sandwiches, salads and small bowls of hummus for a lighter lunch but there were also gyros and full plates of hot food.

The standout meal for us was in the Greek restaurant.
It was lovely to be served with each course and we felt a great deal of effort was put in by the chefs to create a piece of culinary art and taste, great care is taken with each morsel of food, with a board of 6 starters presented in taster form much like tapas, this is followed up by the main course, my choice was rack of lamb and it was perfectly delicious and generous portion of meat.
A beautifully presented dessert finished the meal.
Amuse Bouche to start and a delicious cocktail added to the experience.

Rooms…..Hotel rooms spotlessly clean and mostly newly refurbished, very very comfortable beds and plentiful amount of hangers in the wardrobe, a kettle with teas and a good quality sachet coffee, the items were not replenished but there are plenty on the bars to take up to the room if needed. Hairdryer in bathroom, fridge stocked with juices and fizzy drinks. Slippers, dressing gowns. Very handy sockets to plug USB and the small charger ends into without needing an adapter. Ironing board/iron can be borrowed for half hour.
Balcony furniture very comfortable.
Our sea view room was perfect and in the morning we could lie in bed with the sliding door open, looking at and listening to the gorgeous sea with Symi and Turkey in the distance.
The occasional roar of an aircraft only added to the setting 😀
Free use of digital safe and fresh, quality pool towels every day.

The lady who did the cleaning (room 1445) was really friendly and attentive, she worked efficiently and took time to say hello and to treat us individually, it makes a difference also the reception staff were so helpful.
The staff have a lot to do, we understand how difficult it is to get all members of staff to be amazing and this year must have been so difficult for the Island dealing with the fires and floods.
It is truly fantastic how the have managed to keep everything normal for their clients to enjoy, and generally all the staff are great.

Pools……The pool area is huge and again, everything has been thrown at it to create a comfortable experience.
I have never seen so many different types of beds and seating around a pool, the giant beanbags are definitely a first for us. It’s very impressive and plenty of sun beds with a pool bar in the centre of the pools, however we were mainly drawn to the calm of the beach.
We used the the indoor pool in the spa a couple of times, it’s wonderfully warm and luxurious and easy to just pop into, swim and have a lovely shower in the changing room.

So many seating areas all around the hotel indoors and outside, you are spoiled for choice.
Mostly the hotel has a feeling of luxury they have certainly tried really hard to create this and only a few things do not entirely fall in this category as there is an element of queuing required at certain times for drinks and food, but this I am sure is due to difficulties in finding staff.
*****
Just a thought…..

throwaway cups and handleless pottery mugs in the breakfast room were odd, they looked good but were impractical and hot to handle, the mug size was great, but mugs with handles and not so prone to cracks would be more user friendly.
Also small jugs would be handy to put cold milk in for tea and coffee..

We understand that the refurbishment will continue and hopefully they will be able to renovate the shower and toilet room at the back of the beach.
******
As a snippet of information, as we totally missed them being there…….opposite the main reception of the hotel is an independent supermarket, together with a bar and restaurant, it is handy to know it’s there as the bar does do a nice Mythos.
There is also a great shop in the hotel which sells all manner of items……
except newspapers. Unfortunately is not possible to get them at all at the hotel.

The Electra Palace is the most generous hotel we have known for supplying endless bottles of water which are left on a large table at the pool end to take at anytime and of course it is also available at all of the bars.

We would definitely return, and one of the main reasons is because the hotel is really doing its best to please all of the customers, all of the time.
Thank you to the hotel and staff for a lovely relaxing holiday, we hope to see you all again soon.

Ps. Very impressed that you read and reply individually to each review.

We have just returned from a week stay at Electra Palace, we had a lovely time with great weather and lovely food. This is a great resort if you are looking for a quiet holiday, I would say it is more for the older generation than the younger. When we arrived on Saturday we were greeted by a lovely receptionist, we weren't warned about the local tax that we had to pay but it was only 28 euros. We arrived at nearly 11 pm and did request some food as we had been travelling since 2pm, however, this was not possible and we were told that there was no where around where we could get anything.

We found the breakfast lovely and there were lots to chose from, lunch became a bit repetitive and so did dinner, I was fine eating the food however my partner did sometimes struggle to find food he liked so a few times we went out for dinner (lots of lovely restaurants in Ialisos which was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel with lots of lovely little shops and bars (we would definitely recommend kostas village taverna)

We found the all inclusive drinks great, although some comments have said they are branded, the ones we received were like Pimms and Absolute Vodka. Bar staff were lovely and very attentive.

The Italian restaurant food was also great I had the sea bass which was amazing and couldn't fault it!

The gym is at the bottom floor and not many people knew about it, there was also a spa and indoor swimming pool which we were unaware of until visiting the gym.

I would definitely recommend keeping the room on for an extra 64 euros if you have a late flight as we were told by other customers that they were only given 20 minutes between them to use the shower room and after the 20 minutes electricity when using the hairdryer turned off.

A few improvements:

1) our balcony door on room 409 did not shut or lock, therefore it was left open most of the time, we were luckily on a high floor so didn't have to worry about anyone potentially getting in.

2) On arrival we weren't given any water, we also did not receive water or tea-making facilities in our room until the third day. When we asked the bar for a bottle they said we would have to pay 2.90 euros. We ended up taking water from the restaurant and we also refilled it at the gym as they have a cold water machine.

3) The lock on our door was faulty and therefore meant that the alarm would go off a few minutes after leaving and entering the room, it wasn't too loud but it was a bit of an inconvenience to try and sort.

4) The pool entertainment got repetitive, there was water aerobics but it was the same every day and there wasn't much entertainment going on. In the evenings we would take walks along the beach which was lovely and we would have a little shop around.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Electra Palace, I wouldn't say it was a 5 star hotel as we have stay in 4 stars and had better/the same treatment. I would recommend this hotel

I write this on my last day in this lovely hotel

On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly welcome when our luggage was taken from us and the receptionist suggested that we went straight into the Italian restaurant for a drink and pizza as the restaurant was open until 11pm and it was now 10.20 pm.

I had paid extra for a sea view room and the room didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t 5* maybe 4* is more realistic however it was more than adequate for a comfortable stay. The mini bar was disappointing with just a few soft drinks which were not replenished. The standard of cleanliness was applaudable as with the rest of the hotel. This hotel is spotlessly clean! All staff at the hotel are pleasant and try their best to please.

The location of the hotel is perfect with a beautiful beach on one side and a huge pool on the other side. The little town with ample shops and bars/restaurants is 15 minutes walk away.

You can hear the airplane noise but they fly over so quickly they have passed in seconds. Our holiday company were very honest in its description about the plane noise and we were therefore aware of it pre booking.

The food quality is probably that if a 4* however there is ample choice of places to eat including Greek restaurant, Italian restaurant and Asian restaurant. You do have to book these on arrival and there was no available evening a la carte slots left for the Italian but we ate there for lunch on the day time menu. The Asian a la carte was fantastic!

There’s a lovely little ice cream parlour in the swimming pool area called the sugar cube this also does crepes and toasties and deserts/pastries and a selection of drinks and coffees. We ate here most days for late breakfast.

Now for the criticism! The evenings here are completely boring! Hotel manager please take note that even a little entertainment would make a huge difference to this holiday! There’s a ‘disco’ which is basically music piped through a speaker system in the pool side. There’s a little duet playing musical instruments for a very short time on the beach side. I would like to think that maybe the entertainment will improve over time as we are just returning post shut down from the pandemic.

I would happily return to this hotel once there is evidence that the evening entertainment has improved. I will be looking for this in the reviews of the future.

On the whole we have had a lovely week here.

Considering the recent pandemic I think the hotel is trying its hardest.
We arrived late with no food available to us or even a drink that was said we would have on arrival.
Yes they’re short staffed big time but this maybe because there following government guidance.
The hotel is based on a pebble beach and yes it’s 20 minutes from the airport and you see at least 50+ planes but I ain’t sad enough to count like most people! No bother noise is gone within seconds.
It’s clean, friendly had no bother, food is basic not very good if your vegan. The greek restaurant situated around the pool is the best place to eat they do get busy and only have two staff but food is very good.
Pool bar closes at 4 which is very annoying especially when the pool closes at 6, you have to walk to the beach to get a drink and the ques are very long! That bar also closes soon as the sun goes down. Ques can get massive for drinks with one person just serving.
The most downful about this hotel is the noise I feel like I’m on a club 18-30s holiday the noise from the rooms are awful there so thin and the cleaners shout along the corridors around 6-7am ok if your an early bird but annoying if u want peace! So bring ear defenders if you want peace!
Very hard to get clean towels daily, no stock up of the mini bar what so ever, keep your water bottle from the first night top it up yourself as they don’t even give u water.
It’s a very derelict location few shops but so quiet just a long sea front and a lot of stuff closed down.
Apart from that just appreciate the fact you can still get away.

We have visited this hotel twice in 2016 and 2018 and both times it was fantastic, we had planned to come here in 2020 but the pandemic stopped this....so we finally got here this year, it states in the hotels webpage that vaccination proof etc will be needed on check in we was never asked for this, on checking in the member of staff was behind a plastic screen and also wearing a face covering which meant we could not understand a word she was saying plus the fact live music was being played at a loud volume around 20 yards away made check in difficult,

On arriving at our room which was in the amex building it was a ground floor room with no view expect that of the rear of the poolside restaurant, garden area and sports pitches, it was clean however during our stay the housekeeping was not the best and the floor was only mopped once, and when it was it was absolutely soaked and took over 3 hours to dry.

The range of food on site is varied however the menus at the onsite al a carte restaurants is very limited, the main buffet dining room had a varied selection however it makes no sense making guests wear face coverings when getting their food then sitting them less than 2 feet away from each other and removing them, the face covering rules need to be removed as we where not the only ones to complain about it.

The "show cooking" was at best very basic and amateur, the omelettes at breakfast where dreadful and I make better at home with actual eggs and not the powder mix that was used here.

The drinks are standard all inclusive quality, far too much Ice used and cheap mixers, the local beer served was always flat and in my opinion the pumps and pipes need to be cleaned or replaced.

The level of communication and advertising for events at the hotel is poor, a street food event was held whilst we was there and nobody said anything about it being included in the all inclusive package, no animation team on site until 3 days before we left, no evening entertainment other than a saxophone and guitar player, playing the same thing every night.

The only plus points here are the pool area, the pizzas and pastas in the onsite Italian (lunch menu), the poolside mini mart and the rainbow bar outside the hotel entrance.

After waiting over 2 years for a holiday we are not sad to be going home and I do not think we will be returning.

So my partner and I have just returned from a week here booked with Tui.
Firstly we arrived at 10pm to a cold unwelcoming reception. We asked if there was any snacks or somewhere we could grab a quick bite to eat but we’re told no. This surprised me as other reviews on here suggest food was made available to them upon arrival after 10pm. Anyway we were given a map of the hotel and restaurant opening hours and handed our key cards. No information about how to find our room or a Porter to help with our cases.
When we arrived at the room it was small with a tiny bathroom. The shower above the bath is too low, I’m 5 feet 6 and only could just stand under it. My partner is over 6 foot & found this really difficult. Yes it contained everything we needed but was very small and compact. After leaving our bags we made our way out of the hotel to The Rainbow Bar, which is directly opposite the hotel entrance. We were greeted warmly and ordered drinks and snacks as we were hungry after travelling all day and evening.
In summary, the restaurants were all good, the Greek and the outdoor BBQ, were the best. We weren’t able to book the Asian but did manage to book the Italian. What was annoying is that there was no information about how to book the a la cartes. We tried to book via the app and via reception but we’re told to book at the buffet restaurant when open. This needs to be communicated better as by the time we’d been told this we struggled to get booked in any.
The cleaners were really good, however they need to be kindly asked to not have loud conversations with each other in the corridors before 7am. We were woken a few times with their chattering.
The hotel is definitely not a 5 star, it’s dated and needs a revamp along with new sun loungers and parasols which are looking rather dated.
The COVID measures are good, masks are to be worn inside the hotel and plenty of hand sanitizer is available.
The bars don’t have any music or atmosphere and you have to queue to be served, sometimes with about 10 people in front on an evening which definitely isn’t 5 star.
The sugar cube coffee shop is lovely, good food and waiter service, which we used daily for a lovely latte and cookie.
The area around the hotel is very scruffy, graffiti, dog poo, unfinished and dilapidated buildings. The beach is pebble but also looks dated and scruffy.
We went to Rhodes town for the day/evening via taxi (14 euros one way) and loved it. Lots to do, old and new town and a great deal to see and do.
All in all I wouldn’t recommend the Electra Palace, we’ve stayed in much better 4 and 5 stars via Tui. I would say the staff work really hard and do a good job but more staff is required to give a more attentive service and provide some evening entertainment (of which there was none).
I did request a quiet room before booking but other guests did make a lot of noise, banging doors, clattering about and asked to be moved but was met with a grunt and unhelpful ‘maybe’ from reception.
The only positive was the weather was lovely.

false advertisement:

This hotel is supposedly a 5 star one but this couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a dated, poorly maintained, in urgent need of a refurbishment hotel that offers half of what it promises.

Understaffed, ridiculously limited serving times, second grade food and beverages and average service.

Reception staff mostly unwelcoming and not friendly, lack of management to deal with the many issues guests have with the ridiculous rooms on offer.

Upon arrival we were not greted by anyone, the receptionist was pleasant at best, we were asked to pay upfront which is very strange. The room we were given was terrible, dirty with hair on bed and sofa, the bathroom door did not open fully and was slamming against the toilet seat, the door did not lock and our almost 2 year old opened it on his own and left the room twice. The air conditioner was broken.

We immediately asked for another room, which eventually we were given but had to wait for an hour+ for the room to be freshened up. When we finally got to the room, it was dirty it had nothing in the minibar. There was no manager on-site when we arrived which is really really bad as the poor reception staff have to deal with all these issues alone.

One of the main reasons we booked this hotel is because it advertised child care and kid’s club. We found out too late that the kids club is for 5-12 year olds (are you kidding me) and the was only one person operating that on her own. She told me that due to Covid there are no other staff available.

Entertainment was laughable to say the least there was nothing entertaining really, the only good thing was the two guys playing guitar and saxophone in the evenings.

Cleanliness? Are you kidding me! the place is really gross, especially the kids pool, unbelievable!

The place is a third class hotel and caters to people who are happy with the basics.

Food in the main restaurant is decent and in many days even good. The Italian restaurant is not bad either and we did not try the Asian. Avoid the Greek restaurant the food is not edible and def not a true representation of Greek food.

The beach is not really a beach for swimming, it’s full of big rocks and it’s almost always wavy and difficult to swim and enjoy. Pool is a decent size but not clean and the outside pool area seems like it’s not cleaned regularly either.

The playground next to the kids club is sunlit throughout the day till late evening, making it extremely hot and impossible to use.

It is clear that a lot of corners have been cut and in the worst way possible. We will never stay there again and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

I Always write reviews bearing in mind other people read these and are not interested in petty stuff people complain about. So I will Adress the Title of this review immediately. I Booked this Hotel as it had a good animation program which makes my Holiday unfortunately this was not the case when we got there management had curtailed a lot of the entertainment believing people wanted to relax. I prefer the animation hence not for me part.
That aside I found the hotel to be excellent.
Covid measures in place eg wear a glove (provided) in the buffet restaurant. Wear a mask in communal areas unless sitting down. Ample sanitiser dotted everywhere I felt very safe there.
Rooms. Clean functional I had a walk in shower maids cleaned it every day and provided 1 bottle of water per day
Pool. Spotless. plenty of sunbeds and canopy or shade under the trees large lagoon style pool
There is a pool bar which was never that busy usual range of local spirits and 2 beers

Beach bar is a great feature open most of the day lovely breeze on the beach and you can watch the kite surfers

Food was superb best I have had on holiday from the buffet to the al a cartes
You have a choice for lunch either the buffet or the Italian different menu to the al a carte or the Greek for gyros etc
The Asian al a carte is a must food was to die for.
There is an online shop and a jewelry shop which I did not think was too expensive
All in all it is a very nice Hotel unfortunately I won't return as the animation program was a non starter

Our room was cleaned just once during the stay because the cleaning lady was able to reach our room not earlier than 3 pm. The food experience was misleading - this is NOT premium all-inclusive at all. There were surimi sticks as Amuse Bouche. The leftovers were cooked the next day as a “new” meal. A lot of food was full of vinegar. Champagne was available at breakfast only on Mondays, instead of the smoked salmon there was some dried local white fish. There was no wine selection at all, and the wine available was horrible. COLD Fava and canned octopus and dry dead olives are a shame for Greece. Absolutely no fresh juices or at least edible cereals for breakfast. All in all the food selection was poor, even though the place supposes itself to be a gastronomic experience. If so, it was the worst experience in my life. I have found a HAIR in my tzatziki, we felt sick afterward.

The facilities looked and were extremely amortized (used for decades), the AC was dripping, there were wires from the wall in the lobby, the rooms lacked electric sockets as if it is 90’s outside, entertainment is unfortunately again on the level of previous decades. The drain system in the rooms works the way that it stinks 40 mins after flushing, no surprise as there is a freaking hole in the floor next to each lavatory. The hotel tried to hide this hole under the trash bin, which is hilarious. By the way, the lid from the trashbin was missing at the beach, so it stank and there were insects around the hotel beach area.

The staff besides several individuals was poor and not helpful at all, please pay attention, that the shower room timing is approximate, though you will know it just before your taxi arrives.

Those fellas are trying to sell everything, weighing your luggage or even bottles of water. Though, you can grab free paper cups with water at the bar when you need;)

The price/value ratio is horrible. I even can say my rare holidays were ruined. I won’t ever come to this place again as well as to any other hotel on the ELECTRA network.

Dear Lisa, We would like to thank you for choosing Electra Palace Rhodes for your stay. Regarding your complaint about the cleaning, we would like to inform you that after your arrival on the 14th of August and as per our cleaning records you had a "Do not disturb" sign hanging on your door on the 15th, 17th 18th and 20th of August. Therefore, your room was cleaned on the 16th and on the 19th which was the only days that you had "Do not disturb "card on your door. How can you complain about a service that you denied? Furthermore, please note that the chambermaids are cleaning the rooms randomly in different hours during their shift and did not leave your room last one on purpose. You uploaded photos are from a room that is not a guest room. We use this room as a courtesy room free of charge. Guest can use this room on the day of their departure for 30 minutes to make a shower and get ready for their trip. Of course, the timing is approximately as sometimes the guests are not always on time. To take pictures of this room and giving the wrong impression making other guest to believe that those are the hotel rooms is unfair. Please upload your room photos as well, otherwise we will find this action from your side as intentional defamation. We do not try to hide anything with the trash bin as we have it in all corridors for guests use. There are as well trash bins at the beach and the hotel staff is cleaning them regularly. Of course, anyone from the 700 guests can leave the bin open for a while until our staff is taking care of it. The hotel is on Premium all-inclusive basis and does not try to sell anything. There is a policy regarding the drinks that can be taken to the beach due to environment reasons, and therefore we use recycled paper cups instead of plastic bottles. About the restaurant we would like to point out that the Amuse bouche, with surimi sticks are with vegetables and mayonnaise sauce. We follow all HACCP regulations, and we have certificates from the local authorities and the tour operators. We do not recook the remaining food for the next day as you mentioned. Practically leftover food does not exist. We do have champagne every Monday, and the fish could be either smoked trout or salmon. The wine list (all-inclusive) consists of 12 wine labels of different varieties, plus the list of extra wines. As for the fava bean and the octopus from a "box", it does not exist, which can be confirmed by purchasing the specific code. For the olives, maybe you meant the Thromba olives (Thassos variety), which we offer at breakfast and are (Semi-dried) There is no fresh orange juice (with extra charge if requested), but there is orange juice and 3 other varieties nearby. At breakfast, there are 6 different varieties of cereals There is a variety of 20 hot dishes at lunchtime, and 22 in the evening, plus salads and amuse-buses. As for the hair found in the tzatziki, no incident had been reported to us. For the above reasons we think that your comments are exaggerating. Guest Relations Team

Never normally leave reviews but in this instance felt compelled to.

A very nice hotel in terms of the pool and it being by the sea but it’s very poorly run.

All inclusive is nonexistent. The 4/5 bars are opened periodically so that the drinks and food are hard to come by. Every single time we went to the bar there was a que of atleast 11/12 people in front. They make it very hard to make good use of the service.

The food in the canteen is very repetitive and not to a good standard. The canteen is extremely noisy and the que to get in and seated was ridiculous especially at 8pm.

Staff at the ice cream parlour are quite rude and the service very slow. The chap at the kebab restaurant with the glasses is also very moody and rude and slammed the drinks down when bringing them over. Constantly felt like it was a huge task for the staff to give you the food and drinks you had paid for.

The quality of the food and alchohol was very poor!

At each bar there was one person serving most times which led to the big ques all to limit the amount people would get and then when they closed one bar they’d open another at a different part of the hotel and the ques would just move to that one.

We gave up on the all inclusive at the end and just purchased our snacks and drink from the shop beside the pool which was reasonably priced and the drinks and food a much higher quality. We also went to the rainbow bar next door where we were made to feel welcome and who provide much better service and quality.

Could also hear everything in the corridors from the room and was zero sound proofing. Balconies are also very unsafe for small children.

Very dissapointing as the pool and the location were perfect but it just felt the whole time like they were trying to maximise profits by limiting what people could have by being cunning with limited staff and creating big ques by limiting the bars open at one time and when those bars were open limiting the staff serving. Extremely annoying.

Everything is included - not sure what the pricing is about. But all your food and drink is included in your stay. Along with a booking in each of the Al La carte’s once. You can also eat everyday at the Italian for lunch - also all inclusive.

I can’t comment on the beer because I don’t drink it but the choices of drinks here are brilliant, the cocktail list and the mixers are really good. The hairdryer is okay - I’ve brought my own but I’m fussy with hair dryers, it’s okay. No you don’t pay extra for the Italian and Greek you get one per week stay, so a visit to each restaurant. The Greek is fantastic.
Answer from Rebecca S
Yes there will be a sofa bed set up for a child. The icecream parlour is included in all inclusive and for lunch you can either go to the main buffet or the italian. Theres no snack bar we was abit gutted there wasnt somewhere you could just grab some chips or something. There is also a little shop where you can get some pastries, cakes and bottles of water as part of the inclusive too
