Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Let's start with the negative observations and experiences: The halls to the rooms smell of mould and rising damp, the mattresses are bowed in the middle, and a chain lock is the only door lock in your room. Our room didn't have heating, cooling, or a bathroom fan. Decor is from the 70's or 80's with zero upkeep so it's pretty tired and dated. No charming vintage or retro vibes unfortunately. Lastly, there was a spider nest in the grapes we had on our plate at breakfast and the cooked buffet breakfast was rubbish. Here's the saving graces and the reason the place gets 2 stars instead of none: Staff are lovely and friendly. The hotel has a free shuttle on demand for guests to and from airport. Chargeback option to room for drinks and food convenient. Luggage storage secure. Pool onsite handy for hot days. For the price this hotel charges for food, drink, and accommodation you should def stay elsewhere.

Not yet worst place I’ve stayed at, but not the best either. The bed was comfortable and shower pressure was great with plenty of hot water. Room was dated, staff were friendly. It was a mission to get the heating in the room working so was cold for several hours. I would have expected air conditioned rooms but only had a wall heater - in summer I’d imagine it would get very hot inside.

Stayed here as close to the airport but was disappointing. Shower pressure was like a drip! Couldn’t possibly wash hair that is shoulder length or longer. Paint missing off a lot of the walls. Needs a good makeover

place is outdated. walls are so thin you can hear anyone’s conversation from the hallway to inside their room. cole who works at reception tried to scam us and got defensive towards my auntie until we proved him wrong. if you’re a person of color, don’t stay here lol iykyk.

I felt really embarrassed about the room as I’d booked a night for family arriving from Europe for a visit. The room was outdated in the extreme. The ceilings were majorly water stained and the glass doors so dirty it was difficult to see out. The beds were soft and uncomfortable. The wood surrounds on the sliding doors were rotting and this made the door almost impossible to slide. It was just quite awful and terrible value for money at $224 for one night.

We arrived with a very small dog to stay the weekend to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary and these guys were amazing. Made a fuss of our wee guy and he settled into our room beautifully where we had good access to the outside for him. Spacious room with super comfy beds and spacious bathroom. Great room service menu and a really good in-house room service breakfast. Only small detractor, was able to hear the couple above us quite clearly and someone walked the corridors at night leading Hannibal’s elephants to safety, (apparently) otherwise a wonderful experience. Despite that, would stay again and loved the short distance walk to both Animates and Lyall Bay where we took the smallest family member

Rooms are large and comfortable and while older and could do with a refurbishment they are ok. If staying the night you can leave your car parked there free for five days and a small fee per day after that. They provide a free shuttle to and from the airport that is efficient.

Grubby. Unloved. Old. Musty. Dismal. Don’t bother. Stay in the city and u er to airport. Still need to write more. Just do not go. It’s a sad place which needs an overhaul. Just some white paint on the walls would help and not brown curtains and beige covers.

Thought it was a brilliant facility - a little shabby around the edges (but part of the charm) - with a huge pool (with a photo of the rolling stones sat around it in 1965) and the food was exceptional and very well priced. Odd experience at bar though where I was served a tumbler of gin on ice. I had asked for a gin and tonic and had meant a premix bottle. I didn't realize it was straight gin until I'd taken a giant thirsty swig. While eating my (lovely) dinner I started to feel uneasy like I'd been drugged, which I can only put down the drink I'd been served. Was weird.

We needed somewhere to stay overnight after landing in Wellington airport and journeying on the next morning. Brentwood Hotel was adequate - close enough. It had a bit of an old people's home vibe, but it was adequate.
