It was a very cold night in the Capitol and the jnside felt like the outside. I slept with socks on, a thermal top, beanie, a blanket and the heating on as high as it can go and I was only just warm enough. When I informed the reception at check out (I stayed 1 night) they laughed and said you should stay in summer next time. I was pretty appalled by that. The rooms itself, other than the windows not sealing was clean, tidy and felt welcoming. The bathroom was spacious and clean, however the shower was very weak. I have given it 2 stars as in summer it may be a different experience but I won't find out as I'm not staying there again. The food for dinner and breakfast was nice and plentiful too. But I asked for the gas fire to be lit but it never was.
I have stayed at the Brentwood once before and had remembered a good experience there so it was an easy decision to stay again at the Brentwood on Saturday night for a visit to Welli to watch the Phoenix Football team. I was with my two teenage sons and we booked a big room with a king bed for me and two large singles for the boys. First best bit was the free shuttle picking us up from the Airport. Then early entry to our room at midday to drop off our bags before we hit the central city for the football game and dinner out, which incidentally would only be a $10 Uber fare.. The room was very spacious for us three (all over 6 foot) and the beds and linen were first class and very comfortable beds with large choice of pillows. Bathroom also very nice and clean with nice towels and toiletries. Real whiners will tell you that the hotel is very dated and will take note of small areas of damage etc. Yes of course it is an old hotel, there is a cool photo of the Rolling Stones sitting by the pool on 1965. But it is still perfectly nice, clean and very friendly. Rooms of that area are also much bigger than your typical modern hotel where you can barely swing a cat. We have stayed at some fairly smart hotels around the world and I can happily say that this hotel is perfectly nice. It is also very reasonably priced which is fair enough given it is older style and hardly the Hilton. I even has a swim in the pool which is as good a pool as you will find any where around the world but yes it was pretty chilly but still fabulous. On departure the hotel shuttle then picked us up and whisked us off back to the airport. If you want to stay somewhere nice and easy and fun with a pool, stay you should stay at the Brentwood.…
The Brentwood definitely won’t be the best hotel you’ve stayed in, luckily it’s not quite the worst either. The decor is worn and the beds aren’t great, wooden framed windows make it very noisy especially when Wellington weather wants to put on a show. The saving grace is the restaurant, breakfast is average but dinner was a surprise, well presented meals, bursting with flavour and decent portion sizes to match. If you stay here and feel underwhelmed, head to the restaurant and have a kai
We chose to stay here because we wanted to leave our car while we flew south for a few days. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. The process of leaving the car was easy and shuttle transport to and from the airport was great. Our room, although up some steep stairs, was good value, well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The restaurant service was very slow and although they apologised saying it was a very busy night it really was too long to wait for a meal- 45 minutes and then the starter and main arrived within a few minutes of each other, The fish and chips were good and the beef burger also got a big tick. It seemed like there was no coordination in the restaurant and they were understaffed as the number of diners was not huge. However it seemed like there was quite a lot of room service being delivered.…
I needed a room in the Eastern suburbs for 2 nights during a flying visit to Wellington and the Brentwood was perfect. It is absolutely not a modern hotel so if that is what you are looking for, you better head into the city and pay city prices. The Brentwood is older but comfortable and my room was very clean and well equipped. The ease of parking right outside my door was a bonus and even though it appeared that the property was full during my time there, I did not find it noisy in the slightest. The price I paid for 2 nights was very reasonable, the front desk service was excellent and attentive. I would certainly stay again next time I am in Wellington.
