Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Like going back to a more simple time.
We took our caravan and for $35 a nite for two of us was excellent value.
Its rustic, its a fishing camp, The showers were powerful and hot.
You are well away from the road, and next to the sea. Lovely spot.
The pub across the road offered excellent meals at very reasonable prices.
The hosts were friendly and accommodating, as were the other campers.
We'll be back.

This motorcamp has sites right on the beach. Beautiful views and lovely walks. No power with the beach sites. Facilities could do with some updating but were adequate when we are self contained. Really appreciate being able to take our dog.

Pub across the road did lovely meals

Absolutely the place to stay on a boys fishing trip the accommadation was satisfactory with all you need, comfortable beds cooking facility if needed and wonderful hot showers in ablution block which was very clean and tidy and onlyl 20metres away and the Tap Htel right across the road. We had 3 boats between us and parkind right outside our cabin doors. Quiet as well. Would recommend and if body stands up will be back.

We took our children to Tapu for our very first holiday in 14 years, for the price of renting a caravan and annex was amazing value, the cooking facilities in the caravan were fantastic and there are two additional kitchens, the showers are very powerful and the 50 cent price for 5 minutes of hot water in a powerful shower is wonderful. The waters edge is shelly but 3 minutes walk is a very swimmable location. For fishing, this is a snapper hot spot. We will be going back for 2 weeks next time. Thanks for offering budget accommodation Tapu Camp.

Amenities are old and outdated, often showers were cold, cleaning not up to standard in busy summer months, shower floors and walls are grose. Kitchens are so old and not maintained. Toilets are below average, old and dingy! Staff are often rude and lack the qualities of a good customer services provider. The Camp Manager lacks integrity and can often be found wandering around looking for something to complain about or to wreck someone's day. A campground with real potential but run incompetently, no money is put back into the camp, rental caravans are poorly maintained. Nothing for kids. No pets unless you grease the Camp Manager. Never really felt safe at night, lots of undesirables around.

We've stayed in a lot of camping ground, but this one was revolting!! There were rats everywhere, cabins were of ill repair. Staff were friendly until we advised them how filthy our cabin was (rubbish from previous tenants, mould, dust, ants etc) & then they changed their tune. The pub staff over the road were equally as bad - the worst customer service ever experienced in our own country.

We took some international guests from the UK down to stay at Tapu Motor Camp as we’d heard it was an idyllic kiwi spot. The beaches on the Firth that far down aren’t as pretty as the beaches further north but are swimmable and the estuary is good for stand up paddle boarding. The camp ground was packed and we were on an extra bit of land which I believe belongs to a school. The kitchens are pretty run down with just a skody sink and hobb, that’s pretty much it, take your own cooker. The bathrooms are pretty grotty, my partner and I both paid for a shower (wear shoes) and each time the showers had run out of hot water which is a bit stink when you’re paying. There are water taps everywhere but no signs to advise you to boil the water first, lucky we checked with the staff. This place attracts the salt of the earth who all seem to go for the fishing and shellfish collecting and they party till late. If you’re looking for R & R and somewhere a bit nice, this is not the place to go.

We really enjoyed our stay at Tapu Camp recently. A group of us spent 2 nights there - the boys went fishing and the girls spent the day exploring the surrounding Tapu area and further up the picturesque Thames coast to Coromandel Town. What a drive! The drive to Tapu from Thames is stunning too with an amazing coastline.

We found the camp facilities to be very clean overall as well - it was obvious they were cleaned regularly during our stay. The showers had good water pressure and were nice and hot.

The pub across the road is like stepping back in time to a classic pub - it has real character. The meals are affordable and a good size - good value for money. We experienced good service too. The boys were late back fishing so they accommodated us turning up late wanting meals.

Our cabin and caravan were clean and tidy. The best part was the waterfront location - it was great waking up to sea views.

Overall, our stay at Tapu Camp was an affordable and fun winter weekend away. Hopefully we'll be able to make it back over summer!

Stayed in a caravan with annex, great for 1 or 2 nights but kitchen would drive you nuts after that. Could only use 2 pieces of elcetrical equipment at a time or it short circuited. So only hot plate and toaster, boil the jug later. lovely views of the ocean, and the pub and takeaway right across the road is a bonus (saves using the kitchen) . Overall great value for money and great fishing very near by
