The campgrounds are inthe most stunning location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the Food Truck - beats cooking and they did a great wood fired pizza. Dogs welcome (under the usual conditions of responsible ownership). The amenities were really dated for the 'ordinary' campers and many things were 'out of order'. Perhaps their market was the high end traveller - who disappeared when borders closed and no funds left over to bring the basic amenities up to spec? Easy to overlook, because it is such a superb place and not crowded - at the moment. We'll be back.

Stayed at The Camp, Lake Hawea for three nights in October 2020. The Camp is beautifully maintained, park setting on the shore of Lake Hawea. The views are incredible, amenities are traditional but very clean. Highly recommend staying here. Great base for exploring Central Otago and only 15-minute drive to Wanaka. Lovely staff with great knowledge of local area and tips for must sees.

Beautiful place, views, people. Great value for money & a wicked spot on one of the most stunning lakes I have seen. There was a cool little playground for kids to play on, Easy access to dispose of rubbish/recycling.

Bikes for Hire, highly recommend & a range of tracks to explore the area both for kids, adults & athletes like myself...

We appreciated the camp being open over the winter period. We stayed in our own caravan at what felt the height of the coldest day/nights and appreciated the VERY WARM portacabin showers/toilet being provided. Lovely setting even in the winter, so must be stunning in the summer season. Kitchen facilities were fairly basic but certainly adequate.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We are so pleased you got to experience the camp in the winter season. Each season brings a different perspective. It is really stunning in summer. We hope you get to come back and visit us in the warmer months too.

The accommodation options in Lake Hawea are limited to the hotel (closed for the night we wanted to stay), The Camp, and private rentals. Normally we would stay in Wanaka but we wanted to avoid the larger townships due to Covid, and it was just one night passing thru on the way to Haast.

Our stay at a cottage was on a small rise. I felt the cottage could do with a spruce up as it was rather dated and wasn't really value for money. Just needs a refresh.

The Camp itself is geared towards campers and glampers and motorhomes, thus the name, and a classic Kiwi holiday style. The Camp is on the shores of Lake Hawea, nice watching campers enjoying their watersports, and campers doing their camping "thing" - ie just sitting around relaxing / taking it easy.

Despite no full view of the lake, it was nice sitting outside on the cape cod style chairs just soaking up the warm autumn weather after a long day travelling.

A friend and I camped at "The Camp" at Lake Hawea en route to the west coast and would have stayed longer if we could have. The grounds are lovely with lots of different areas for camping (they also have a number of huts/cabins). There are lots of mature trees providing shade, amenities are functional and clean and there are ample showers to cater for everyone. The store has some basic snacks and there is an on-site food truck that does burgers and tacos of an evening and coffee and bagels in the morning - both highly recommended (and not extortionist prices either)! Easy and lovely walk into town. The Camp also has bikes and kayaks and other water sport equipment that can be hired, and a number of safe beach spots to go for a glacial swim (definitely worth it - do it)! Highly recommend this camp ground for at least a couple of nights to make the most of the walking and biking trails and the serenity.

We loved our trip here, big thank you first of all to the lady on reception who made us all feel so welcome. The tents in the Denver Cove bit were honest to god nicer than any house I’ve ever lived in 😂 absolute luxury. They really haven’t cheaped out on one aspect of the place - anything you could think of in terms of cute little personal touches and necessary amenities are all provided. Above and beyond anything I was expecting, thank you so much ❤️

We stayed for a week in our tent at The Camp. The natural beauty of the location is stunning, right on the shores of Lake Hawea. Perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming etc. A great spot to base yourself for a Central Otago holiday, just 15 minutes from Wanaka. Facilities are good and the on site food truck is a bonus when you feel like letting someone else do the cooking. Highly recommend!

Stayed one night.

Cabin reminded us of a cell. Breeze block walls and thin curtains. Bed was really comfortable though. Fridge in room and large table.

The site seems really pleasant with a park for kids and a communal cooking area. There also seemed to be a specified place for people to go fishing in the lake. Bike rental also available.

Shower/ toilet block were really clean and shower pressure is great.

The issue that we had was they had a rule of no noise after 10:30pm however on the night we stayed there was what can only be described as a concert going on further down the site. The music was so loud and this went on from 7pm til gone midnight. We called the out of hours number and got no response. We don’t mind a little bit of noise and have stayed in places where this has been the case but this was bad.

Another thing is that at night, none of the paths/roads are lit so if you go to use the bathroom/kitchen past dark then you’ll need to take a torch.

Okay for one night but wouldn’t stay again.

A great location, nice day trip to Haast or Jackson Bay for a blue cod or whitebait lunch at the Craypot, good base for Wanaka activities, bike riding fishing etc. Extremely clean kitchens & bathroom areas. Innovative sites using huts, geodesic domes, tents, etc. Staff very friendly & helpful. Really enjoyed our stay. We will be back!
