We booked in for the Sunday Roast Buffet and were certainly not disappointed Entree was shrimp cocktail or a range of cold meats, seafood salad etc Main was roasted leg of lamb or hot ham with an excellent selection of fresh and roasted veges including Yorkshire Puds! wide selection of hot and cold deserts - favourite was steamed pud. All for $29 or discounted if you are a Gold card holder. Stunning views and great staff There were other options available off the menu if you didn't want the buffet Well worth a visit if you are holidaying in the area.
Called in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The choices on the menu was good and the food really tasty and well presented. The fish and chips with salad was so good. Lovely view down the lake from the dining room and seating inside and out.
We stayed for 2 nights in lake hawea hostel. First of all, the lady at the reception was a bit rude. The room is small and bed is terrible. The kitchen is very dirty and smelly, The toilets were also equally dirty. The toilet is at a separate block from the rooms. There is a camper ground at the back. We experienced a nightmare when someone knocks and tries to open our door during midnight. Was so scared and definitely not safe because the main door is never locked and there is no one around during the night. Totally unsafe!!! Nothing much, everything is just terrible!
We stayed one night on a South Island tour. Staff were very helpful, our room had fantastic views up the lake and a comfortable bed. We decided to have dinner in the hotel restaurant and they exceeded our expectations. We had the Merino lamb shoulder to share and it was excellent. Good quality meat cooked to perfection and served by helpful staff. I will make a point of returning!
I did stay at the hostel facility of the hotel and not at the hotel itself. Upon entering the building, the room looked welcoming and promising: clean, warm and a complimentary towel. But everything else, boy oh boy, was terrible. The kitchen is utterly unsuitable for the amount of people the hostel may accomodate (small, old appliances), it's very cold and it's also home to at least one mouse, which would regularly appear rummaging through the garbage. The toilettes and showers are basic - more alike a campground rather than a hostel - and are located in a separate building. They offer a 12$ backpackers menu at the bar. I tried the burger, which I found delicious!
