It was hard to predict that this would be a lake that my mother would miss, even though there were so many lakes. There aren't many hotel rooms, but every room has a lake-facing view and the attic has a superb view. The sun was excellent on the day of the stay, and as soon as the door opened it was flashed by the sparkling lake, like gold and silver leaping into the eyes. It was very windy at first and it was super comfortable to fall asleep at night with the sound of the wind blowing waves. The next day there was no wind and there was a very calm feeling walking around the lake. If not for lack of time, the trail next to it is a great choice.
About the restaurant, pre-booked, sat in the restaurant's best seat, is that the time is a little late no view, it is recommended to go in the evening, you can watch the evening sun. Each person staying also gave a wine voucher, deducting the wine for dinner, which was great.
If you go to New Zealand next time, you'll have to go here.

View from the hotel room is just breathtaking. Very peaceful & tranquil place to stay in after a long and delayed international flight. The unit sleeps 6, but I think it can comfortably sleep 3, as there is only 1 cabinet to keep clothes and no hooks to hang any bath towels in the bathroom, so to have 6 people in the unit is a big squeeze. Though the restaurant was closed by the time we got there, the person in charge got the kitchen staff to serve us a delicious meal of fish n chips, cheeseburger and pizza. Very friendly & good service.

We stayed for one night at Lake Hawea in a Kind Bed Deluxe Studio with lake views after our drive through the Haast Pass. We were pleasantly surprised when checking in and opening the door to find a large room with amazing views of the lake out the floor to ceiling windows, with a nice balcony too. The room was equipped with all you would need, with a large comfortable bed and big modern bathroom. There was a plug-in fragrance unit in the bathroom which I had to remove as the smell was so strong and over-powering, but after taking it out it settled quickly.

We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and were seated by the window both times. Dinner was excellent, the salmon salad starter we had with our mains was by far the best salad either of us had ever ordered. We found ourselves noting down the ingredients just to recreate it at home. Breakfast was reasonable, however it was meant to start at 8am and there was nobody around at that time.

Overall much better than expected, with gorgeous views out of a large comfortable room.

Heading up the coast after a big weekend & decided to stop rather than driving to our original destination so we could just relax & take in the beautiful scenery.
What a mistake!
Hefty price for room meant we had reasonable expectations but the room was very average - would have rated it 'ok' if we were paying half the cost.
Got in to find lovely view but bathroom was a bit grubby looking & tv wouldn't work. Remote for dishbox unit was missing.
Took 2hrs of mucking round trying to get it to go with finding remote, trying different remote batteries, trying different box unit & getting me to hold the large tv whilst mucking around with it when finally put us in different room which they should have done first!
2nd room was a 'family room' - upstairs downstairs & despite it being newer cosmetically could hear neighbouring kids running round upstairs & occupant next door snoring through the wall.
Totally disappointed & would not stay again!
Only thing going for it is the view out Lakeview rooms.

We stayed here for one night in December 2020 with one large bed downstairs and a large and small bed in the mezzanine floor.

The hotel is easy to find - you see it as soon as you enter Lake Hawea. There is plenty of parking and we were able to park outside the door of our unit. We had a wonderful view of the lake and could walk there in about 1 minute.

The unit itself was of a good size and clean. There was one mirror in the bathroom - it would be useful if there were other mirrors. The wifi was atrocious. It worked on and off, but about 90% of the time it was near impossible. The wifi was good at about 6am. The TV also did not work. All we wanted to do was to catch up briefly on the news but we could get no signal. There were two remote controls but we could find no instructions about how to use them. Is the TV problem related to the bad wifi?

We had dinner in the restaurant and we were not impressed. Portion size was small relative to the high cost.

This was a gem of a place with lovely views, set close to beautiful Lake Hawea. The pub offered delicious and reasonably-priced meals and the staff here were friendly and helpful. Our group of 4 had a fun time joining in their trivia night. We also stayed in the Lodge at the hotel. Rooms were very reasonably priced, small, but quiet, clean and comfortable. The kitchen / dining area was well set out also. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a lake View studio room. Very comfortable and spacious room overlooking the lake, with all amenities. We were on a 3-week road trip so stayed only one night, but it was nice to have a spacious room and parking just outside the room. Comfortable bed and kitchenette. Very friendly hotel staff. Called ahead to say we'll be late, so they left us the key, so very easy check-in if you're running late. Will stay there again

I stayed for one night at the hostel, I must say, when we checked in, the girl at the reception was lovely and the restaurant looked amazing. Location is great. Once we walked to the very back of the hotel, the hostel was literally sitting on a dump, the kitchen and barbecue is facing a massive pile of garbage and our room was facing a dirty wall and the outdoor bathrooms. The room itself was fine, comfy bed, clean and tidy. The bathrooms on the other hand were an absolute disgrace.
I have travelled a lot and seen a lot of different hostels over the years but this, was something else. I have found way cleaner bathrooms on campgrounds or even in dirty petrol stations... The floor was completely flooded and it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The bathroom doors were obviously broken and wouldn't close so we had to listen to the noise of creepy creaking doors in the wind all evening. We went outside a few times trying to close them and ended up blocking them with bins so we could finally sleep... it honestly felt like a joke. The worst night I have had in a very long time. It felt like a complete rip off. For the price we paid anyone would expect way more than that. I would never recommend that place to anyone and will of course never come back. This place needs to seriously review their prices and renovate the whole hostel.

We stayed in a family room which had a bedroom upstairs and the king bed in the lounge. The views were so amazing. It was warm. I didn’t realise when I booked the room it doesn’t have a kitchenette so no toaster, microwave or sink. There is a fridge and you can use the small sink in the bathroom. There is a jug and hot drink making facilities. There is a restaurant on site which was great. The views out of the windows make this such a great place to stay, much nicer than Wanaka and only a short drive away. I’d stay here again for sure.
