Dear nikita_me, Thank you for leaving a review, albeit a rather surprising one. Your account of events is quite different from our own perceptions but you are at liberty to write as you please of course. We run a country house with comfortable accommodation on a bed & breakfast basis. Rather than a hotel with 24-hour facilities, this is a guesthouse and also our home. In our fourteen years here we have never had to enforce ‘rules’ and we have always enjoyed having guests here who are naturally respectful of the day’s schedule and the necessary requirements. At 11pm we began the ritual of ensuring lights were turned off and doors closed. I was taken aback, but not angry, to find you in the lounge with the doors closed with a man you had met, as you said, in the pub and brought in to the premises. You had lit the fire and candles and were enjoying drinks from the bar. Given the potential fire hazards and, also, security, lighting the fire is not something our guests are expected or supposed to do. Anyway, you were very settled there and so I did ask you if your new friend, whom you hadn’t introduced to us, was staying so that I could provide you with additional towels and include him for breakfast. I continued then with the security checks and locked the bar, asking if you might turn the light off in the lounge when you were ready. I politely gave you more time with the intention to double-check the fire and candles had been extinguished once you’d retired. Returning at 1.30am the bar door had been unlocked, the fire and candles were still blazing and the two of you had the lounge door open talking outside. I closed the bar and, again, gave you more time. I returned again in the early hours to find the lights out but the bar door open once more. I’m sorry to hear that we failed you but, before complaining, you might well consider if you had done something wrong that broke some of the most basic rules of the house, causing in the process great inconvenience. We wish, of course, that we could oblige and meet all your needs but, unfortunately, we have our limits that we just cannot exceed. The B&B is our home. But even if it weren’t, every place has its own set of rules and is run by them. People just need to respect them.
