Detailed Reviews
I thought long and hard about the rating I wanted to give this hotel, because it's a hotel in transition, moving towards a better place but not quite there yet. It appeared on the Hotel Inspector the week we were there, and Alex didn't pull her punches about what needed to change. So some things are a LOT better. The exterior paintwork is fresh and clean, the decor in the dining room is relaxed and appealing. But there are many other things that must be better. I resisted the temptation to pull up weeds in the driveway, the pool is closed (but still advertised on this site), the shower and other important aspects of our bedroom needed sorting.
What transformed the whole experience for us was the manager Charlotte who is a delight - genuinely warm and interested in all her guests; the chef who brought us breakfast each day was also friendly. Will the owners give them the support they need to make this hotel what it might be? Time will tell.

Thank you for your review, we are indeed still keeping up momentum and following Alex's advice. The pool is shown as closed on all our booking sites so I'm sorry for the confusion here, it is looking a lot better but we don't plan on opening it before next season.

We were met on arrival by a two members of the team who explained their COVID precautions and gave us information about the facilities at the hotel. They also informed us about the local area and booked us a table at a local pub/restaurant which was very helpful. The room was clean and we had a lovely seaview. All the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was great and the bar was always open! The location of the hotel is very good, just a short walk to the esplanade where there are plenty of restaurants and bars. The old village is not too far away but it is quite a climb. Our only criticism is that the hotel needs modernising which they are in the process of doing. Overall we would definitely recommend staying at the Gracellie and look forward to returning.

After struggling to find somewhere to eat on the Monday evening we took a chance and so glad we did! We had fish and chips on Monday and went back again for the steak on Tuesday, even with the 50‰ off this was still excellent value. For such a little chef he still cooks a massive steak! The hotel itself is under new management and is under going refurbishment and would be good to visit when completed. The one recommendation is better signage as if we hadn't asked then we wouldn't have known non guests were welcome. Would definitely recommend and will return next time we visit the island

Property's Favourite Review
Had an absolutely fantastic stay with our two dogs. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was spotless and for a hotel that caters for dogs there was absolutely no doggies smells. Location was fab and we had a triple room with a sea view. Although we didn’t get time to use the pool it looked very inviting. Thankyou for a wonderful stay.

The only good thing about this hotel was it's location.
Too many problems to list, but to name a few@
Hotel was more of a run down B&B
No fresh towels, room was not cleaned during our stay
Headboard broken and i cut my finger on the open nails
No hot water
Dodgy hairs on bed sheets
Cobwebs around the room
Tiny rooms, you could hear noises from other rooms ( we had a dog running around in the room above us).
The worst thing was, there was never any staff on reception throughout the day to complain to. The only person i spoke to was the waiter who said he would pass on my message ( which he didn't) and he had to grab us some new towels.
I called the hotel to complain once i got home, they were EXTREMELY rude, very hesitant to listen to my complaints, said there is no way of any sort of refund and made it extremely difficult for me to even speak to the manager. I must have called over 20 times and only got through to the manager once!
Save your money and go somewhere else.

We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your stay Zoe. Unfortunately I can't check your reservation as I don't have your details but please do email me if you would like me to follow this up for you. We carry out final checks on rooms before they are given to guests so I'm sorry if anything was missed on your visit. We do make guests aware that housekeeping do not enter the rooms currently but towels are refreshed upon request, there is also a notice that gives a contact number as well as directing guests to bar and waiting staff during times when reception is unmanned. Unfortunately we have suffered with some staff shortage due to the current pandemic and extra safety measure being in place so we are very sorry if this has affected your stay. We did have an issue with our boiler and had this remedied that afternoon so please accept my sincere apology for this. There doesn't appear to be any broken headboard entries in our maintenance book and we cannot check this without your room number, but please do feel free to email either reception or manager for my attention and I will try to make amends.

Please forget ANY pre-lockdown reviews.
Wes, Charley and the team have taken over and are doing a fantastic job . The rooms we had were great and had been re-furbished and most importantly the 'vibe' created by the team was incredibly welcoming and they couldnt do enough for us.
The hotel has a great location in a quiet area (even the sea gulls seem muted!) and the huge restuarant and deck area together with separte bar and games area means it never felt cowded.
totally recommend the hotel- we will certainly be back

We are so sorry you didn't enjoy your stay Krisz. Unfortunately I can't check your reservation as I don't have your details but please do email me if you would like me to follow this up for you. We have been experiencing some internet issues which we have been busy trying to resolve and I personally did raise this with our engineer both times we spoke, I was unaware of any other maintenance issues raised but will check our rooms to find any faults. We do have various staff on for the most part so I'm unsure as to why there was nobody around to help you, but there is a contact number on the desk with relevant duty staff numbers on it for unstaffed periods. We hope you' ll get in touch so we can try and improve your experience next time.

Just got back from spending four days at the Gracellie hotel and I can tell you it was a shambles. The chef had walked out so there was no restaurant food, the bar was closed so we couldn't get a drink only when one of the very few staff was not too tired to open it, we counted three staff who worked hard to keep the place going, Lynn, Dave (who was Tom's dad who had been draughted in for a few weeks to do some maintenance and was still there six weeks later and was cooking breakfast ) along with George. The manager Tom walked out on the second day we were there, Tuesday.
There was no shower screen or curtain over the bath so when showering the water hit your body and shot over the bath onto the floor which was leathal as it was like a skating rink when wet so the two towels we were left in the room were used to mop up the water.....we were not given any other towels, we didn't have room service so our bin wasn't emptied and any food we had to buy outside of the hotel sat in the bin stinking, after day two we took our own rubbish and threw it into the Biffa bins at the back of the kitchen. There was no toilet paper after day two, no soap in the room, no coffee or milk infact pretty much nothing for the £80 a night room which was what we were paying. I had to send an email to reception asking for towels and toilet paper, coffee and milk and received them on my last night but still no towels. I managed to catch Dave one evening and he gave us two little hand towels as he said he didn't have the key for the laundry room. It is advertised as having a heated outdoor pool, well don't even get me started, it was derelict, the water was green and out of use. One thing to say on the plus side is the staff were really friendly but exhausted they were running around trying to do everything also the bacon was really good.
The place needs a lot of money spending on it.
Going into Shanklin in the evening to try and find entertainment was a no goer as the place was like a ghost town by 10pm.

Myself and my partner arrived at the hotel to be pleasantly surprised at what we found. The reception area was beautiful, very minimalist with beautiful pieces of furniture.
I had recently watched an episode of the hotel inspector and wanted to go to the hotel after seeing the transformation! However only saw this in the main reception…
We was greeted by Laura, who greeted us with a smile and was so lovely throughout our short stay.
The only room that was left was a twin room which we booked and when we asked if they had any doubles Laura went to look to find one, coming up with some options, we took the latter option of pushing the beds together.
As we left the reception area we went though the hallways that looked tired and forgotten about, however saying that they was clean. The hallways brought some charm to the hotel, we it’s many landings and stairs, these areas could be gorgeous!
We was shown into our room, number 42. The room was bright and clean, with fresh linen and presentable. There was some facilities to make tea and coffee and the bathroom was equipped well. However we did find there was no place to hang any clothes up, and ended up having to hang clothes over the chair, not ideal!
We both had a comfortable sleep and slept well, however was woken up by the room opposite us shouting. We could hear everything that they was saying.
We headed down to breakfast to be greeted by the waitress who came to take our order. There was no menus so I had to ask what there was and we both opted for the vegetarian full breakfast. We helped ourselves to some toast and juice and waited for the breakfast.
The breakfast arrived and smelt lovely, HOWEVER! I ended up with pork and beef sausages!!!! Being a vegetarian and stating this many times this is UNACCEPTABLE!
We left the hotel very dissatisfied! Especially after Alex Polizzi had been there previously and offered so much support and information on how to enhance the hotel.
From our opinion the hotel could be great, it has so much potential. However money injected into the hotel is needed, as well as more staff to ease the pressure from the 3 staff who seemed to be doing everything!

Just returned from a weeks break with my two children in the Gracellie Hotel. Our family room was lovely and clean with a stunning sea view, beds were comfy, the location was perfect only a few minutes walk from the beach, Charlie's bar downstairs was a great space to chill out and play pool and darts in the evening with the kids as well as getting to mingle with some of the lovely locals. What really made our stay at this hotel was the wonderfully attentive staff, from the moment we arrived nothing was too much. Special mention to Charlotte (you really do make the best Cinnamon swirls) and Natalie for both just being so lovely, warm and welcoming. We hope to return again one day 😊

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, the position is quite good however, it did seem understaffed when I stayed there and my room was definitely not the best. My reason for booking this short break was the visit to Osborne House which I thoroughly enjoyed, it all depends what you want if, you’re not too fussed and only staying 3 nights a break with National Coaches won’t break the bank.
