Our visit was for a 70th birthday party . We arrived and checked in , the room was spotless and we had plenty of tea/ coffee to enjoy . The shower was powerful and varying temp to suit . The next morning breakfast was plentiful and as much tea/coffee and toast as you wanted . The staff were very friendly and always had a smile . If you needed any help they were on hand . We will be visiting family in Durham again and i will use this hotel and advise relatives to do the same ,
This is a beautiful pub, we stayed overnight in a double room. The room was super clean. Great hot shower with wall mounted shampoo and shower gel. Lovely large fluffy bath towels. Plenty of tea, coffee provided. Hairdryer is 2000W so no need to take your own. There is also a Trouser press and iron in the room. Other bits include a bottle of water, sewing kit, shower cap, and tissues. The bed was really comfy but for me too small it was a standard double and they don’t have twin rooms or bigger beds available. The pillows were hard, not fluffy and the quilt was very thick and heavy, we threw it off and managed with the extra blanket provided. If you plug the lamp in on the dressing table there is only one spare plug socket available- so might be worth packing a double plug. There are no lifts to the bedroom floors, so if you’re not good with steep stairs, ask for a first floor room. Though staff do offer to carry your luggage to the rooms for you. Now to the food, it was excellent, but you need to have a big appetite because the portion sizes are enormous, we only managed to eat half of our meal. Breakfast was equally as plentiful with quality ingredients but unfortunately the plates hadn’t been warmed so breakfast was just warm when it arrived. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, couldn’t do enough for you. Only thing was they didn’t tell us the times for breakfast and check out time, maybe add it to the notes on the back of the room door. (Yes, we could have asked but we were already in bed when we realised) All in all a great stay and yes, we’ll definitely return and recommend it to our friends.…
We were using this a base just outside Durham. it was convenient, clean and the staff were super helpful. There was an enormous choice of food in the restaurant which was well cooked, and they were always able to find residents a table however busy they were. The room was comfy and quiet - only slight downside was the pillows which were not great. We would definitely stay here again if in the area, and recommend to friends.
We arrived a little later than originally planned, but this didn't cause any issue with check-in, which was swift and efficient. We were pleasantly surprised at our room - the decor was chic, scrupulously clean and quite modern. The bathroom was very clean, there were plenty of towels and were also very clean. The hotel is situated on the middle of nowhere, with no other pubs or restaurants that we could find within a reasonable distance, so we opted for dinner at the hotel. The food was very good quality, as was the selection of drinks, if a little more expensive than we expected. Breakfast was very good, with a good selection, served quickly and effectively. Check out was efficient.
Stayed overnight here while heading to Northumberland. Staff were very friendly but the place was dead at 20:30 on a Sunday night when I arrived. Dinner had stopped an hour or so earlier so only food available was crisps. Shame as the menus on the wall looked delicious. Breakfast was fine. Only a limited selection of beers available at the time
