Stopped for lunch, service was quick and friendly. Meat eaters in our party well fed, vegetarians don’t eat here their offerings involve cheese, pasta and tomato a sad lack of vegetables in their roasted vegetable lasagne When asked what veggies there should of been onion pepper courgette aubergine if I found 4 pieces I’d be amazed just a lump of sludge which passed off as pasta and cheese Yes I complained at the time, response the kitchen apologises Left the sludge ate the garlic bread Not worth the money, if your veggie give this menu a miss
Very good food, well kept beer, comfortable clean room (No.5). Although by a main road, sound-proofing was adequate and noise levels low. Pleasant and efficient staff. Good location and parking. Reasonable price.
Visited three horseshoes for a family Sunday lunch, good food, generous portions at a reasonable price, service was a little slow, but it was extremely busy and the staff acknowledged this and apologised, so I wouldn’t hold it against them.
Superb homemade food with a fairly extensive menu, best pie I have ever eaten. breakfast was also delicious.friendly attentive helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. room clean and comfortable with a large shower, looks like recently refurbished to a high standard definitely recommend.
The Durham area is short of good independent hotels and good gastro pubs in my experience (I come from the area, live down south now but visit regularly). So the Three Horseshoes was a very pleasant surprise when we stayed there recently when we attended my mother’s funeral. Certainly our room had been recently and very nicely refurbished, with a really excellent bathroom. The food was also a cut above the usual pub grub. Generous portions, and the standard pub favourites were on offer, but amongst the menu and the specials there was evidence of both competence and some imagination in the kitchen. A helpful and on the ball manager and a very good breakfast completed the package. Very good indeed and a real find for the area. A note of caution – there is another pub with the same name not far away so make sure you get the one you want!…
