This place is excellent. Nice bedrooms, great food and beer. The owners and staff are an absolute delight. It's also well located for Durham and the Beamish History museum. My friend and I had two great days here. Thoroughly recommended. You'll love it!

What a smashing place to stay. Landlady Sonia and he staff were lovely. The room very clean and bright and all the facilities listed available. The bed was really comfortable too. Always a bonus. The restaurant was quiet and peaceful which is always nice at breakfast, and I was pleasantly surprised at what was on offer……juice, cereal, fruit, croissants and pain au chocolate included along with full English, poached eggs or whatever variation you chose. Freshly cooked and served on a red hot plate with attentive service. The coffee was great too. I will definitely recommend The Royal Oak to my friends and family. It’s super value for money and I’ll definitely be going again.

Returned for our 4th or 5th visit over the last few years as it is a convenient location to use for Durham or Beamish and other attractions. Rooms are good size and beds are comfy. Rooms are cleaned and serviced daily following pandemic restrictions which is better than Premier Inns. Great value which includes a superb hot freshly cooked breakfast. Sonia and her team are always welcoming and pleasant to their guests.
