The most beautiful hotel! The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated and appointed, and the bar and restaurant feels like a hug. The staff were amazing, welcoming and professional. The breakfast was extensive and beautifully prepared. The location is perfect. Really couldn't fault this hotel on any aspect.

Came here for a look around and drinks whilst in Durham. Just over the river, top of the town. Slightly confused by the entrance to the hotel, as we entered by the steps into a lovely old hallway, and found the bar straight ahead, inkeeping with the heritage of the building. The reception to the hotel was downstairs, through the coffee lounge. Just a tip- on leaving, from the road view, reception to the right hand corner, quiet inconspicuous.

We stayed at this hotel as an anniversary treat. The staff were lovely, the hotel really special and our room great. We stayed in a king executive room which was lovely and spacious with an amazing shower and great smelling toiletries. We had booked the dinner bed and breakfast deal and ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant. The food was good we chose from the main menu rather than the included set menu as it was limited. We were able to do this and it gave us more flexibility and choice. We then got £19.95 each deducted from the bill. Our waiter James was lovely and helpful. Breakfast was in the same restaurant and again was good. We had a lovely stat but I do have 2 minor complaints. 1, we stayed in room 218 and the lighting was awful. It was all lamps and no ceiling light which gave a nice ambience but was awful for getting ready. I really couldn’t see to do my hair and makeup or even find things in my suitcase even with every light on even the wardrobe one. It was very strange and ok for one night but would have driven me mad if we’d been there longer. I’d be surprised if no one had mentioned this before. 2, the restaurant seating around the walls is covered in grey faux leather which was badly worn, torn and badly damaged in places and you could see the foam padding. This is a hygiene issue and also spoils such a beautiful dining room. The rest of the seating and booths are fine but for some reason this hasn’t been repaired or changed. It’s a real shame. Anyway moan over and I say despite these small issues we loved the hotel, staff and our room and would definitely recommend to others and would return ourselves.

Just returned from a 3 night break at this amazing hotel. Our room was spotless & luxurious. So lovely to see the return of room servicing now Covid restrictions have been eased a bit. The architecture of the building is jaw dropping. The main asset is the staff. Everyone we met was enthusiastic, engaging , knowledgeable and just couldn’t do enough to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Have to particularly mention the utterly unflappable , extremely patient and rather wonderful Khamille , without whom we would probably still be circling the city valiantly trying to escape from the dreadful bridge diversion. Never mind , it re opens next month so first time visitors to the city will no longer be bamboozled!!!! Huge shout out to the breakfast crew who worked like Trojans and met every request with smiles.
