Wisteria Hotel emerges as a charming choice for many travelers, with its central Oakham location near Rutland Water and the added perk of on-site parking. The hotel's amenities, including comfortable rooms with modern fittings and delicious food, often receive high marks, although a few guests point out minor noise and temperature issues.
The staff garners accolades for their exceptional service, contributing to the inviting atmosphere. While the value for money is generally appreciated, some visitors perceive it as slightly overpriced despite the hotel's overall cleanliness and efficient service.

After many previous visits to The Wisteria Hotel, our latest visit was, once again, faultless. A very friendly and cheery welcome from both Shanice and Katy on reception duties as we checked in certainly set the tone for our stay. Our room was clean, comfortable, a spacious bathroom and very clear and consise information to hand, good WiFi, and we always appreciate that two chairs are provided in the room. Our meal in the wonderfully atmospheric and historic Hunters Restaurant was sublime. Friendly attentive staff both at the bar and at the table looked after us all so well and the quality of the meals that chef, Ash, cooked for us were both a delight upon the eye and the palate. It's not often that we can dine at this standard within our limited budget. A huge thanks to all at The Wisteria for a most delightful short break. We hope to be back soon.

We booked three rooms at the Wisteria for a major family birthday, we stayed for three nights, and on the final one we reserved the George room for a celebratory meal. This was an excellent arrangement and well worth the charge for the reservation of the room. The evening meal food was excellent and the service the right level of attentiveness. Breakfasts are good and well presented, with plenty of choice. We did have some variations with the rooms, and I think probably due to the time of year (this was the 28th/29th/30th December) we didn't get any immediate response to one of the room's drainage smell problem. Apart from that the rooms are good and spacious, and the hotel is dog friendly (with sensible rules about where and when your dog can go). Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Wisteria is just outside the town centre, so within 15 minutes walk of everything you might want to see and do in Oakham, but with a quiet aspect that meant you felt happily undisturbed by any late night activities. The hotel are quite clear that their private parking is restricted space wise and I would recommend coming in a small(er) car. We used a Citroen C3 and didn't have any problems.

For the second time, our Church group of forty people went to the Wisteria for our annual lunch and it was a lovely occasion in a private room. The room had been beautifully set out and guests were able to order drinks from the bar, before taking their seats. We had all pre-ordered lunch to enable a really smooth and timely table service and there were many compliments from the members about the delicious two course lunch afterwards. We had been given a choice of three main courses and three desserts, followed by tea or coffee. The hotel had set up a screen and projector for our speaker in advance and this really helped her to give an excellent talk. All in all, an excellent afternoon and I'm sure we shall be back next year.

Wisteria Hotel is in a central location in Oakham with parking. We were very happy with our stay and thoroughly enjoyed a meal in the restaurant one evening. Our room was clean and comfortable and although it became chilly at night , we had a plug in radiator which we appreciated as the main radiator wasn’t on. Shower and bath provided plenty of hot water. There is an small outside seating area near the carpark with some lovely plants and shrubbery. There’s an undercover gazebo too. It was a nice touch for an outside place to sit with the weather being good. We were able to leave our luggage and return and the staff were all cheerful and helpful. A bonus is that it had no dogs.. No offence meant to dog lovers but not everyone shares their passion plus my husband is allergic to them. If in the area we would return to this hotel, it was a lovely place to stay.

We enjoyed a couple of nights staying in this small, individually styled hotel. The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to the centre of Oakham, but remarkably it wasn’t noisy, despite the nearby road. [The first night we slept very soundly but unfortunately on the second night there was an event going on, consequently there were some very talkative guests returning to their rooms very late into the night!]. The staff were extremely polite, professional and courteous at all times. Our room was very nicely furnished and carpets/curtains, etc looked very new. The lighting in the room was excellent, it was warm and comfortable. Everything was beautifully clean and the room was well-serviced. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of space for one’s toiletries and a lovely, big well-lit mirror. The dining room for breakfast was a lovely room, again beautifully decorated. The buffet selection was good and there were a variety of hot items on the menu, cooked to order. The ‘full English’ was perhaps slightly minimal with just one of each item. A couple of minor items need addressing: the drain outside the door to the carpark is blocked and during rain several inches of water gathers resulting in very wet feet when going out!! Our room door rattled every time another door in the corridor opened/closed - very irritating. However, overall a lovely stay and would happily return in the future.

Stayed at the Wisteria over the weekend 31st May- 2nd June 2024. Since we were a large party of 16 early booking ensured we could all be accommodated . Throughout the process the hotel communicated promptly to any queries and were always extremely helpful. Check in was dealt with quickly and efficiently and we were booked in for an excellent meal on Friday evening with the hotel providing us a separate room. The rooms were excellent, clean with modern fittings and provided everything needed for a quality stay. I must say ALL of the staff were attentive, helpful and very friendly making the stay even more enjoyable . A lovely hotel in a great location in the middle of Oakham ideal for Rutland Water - I would highly recommend this hotel.

Well located just off the town centre of Oakham, with off street parking and an exceptional bar/restaurant, this is a solid hotel.
From the street exterior the hotel is attractive, old, genteel. Behind the exterior there is a large modern extension, with rooms on two floors - spacious, freshly decorated, with well appointed ensuites. Rooms look onto the car park, not the most picturesque of views, but I suspect most of the guests here are either on business or out exploring the delights of Rutland Water and everything else the county has to offer.
The bed was comfortable, lighting good in the room, an amenity tray, hair dryer - all the usual suspects - and a decent wifi, good enough for streaming.
Check in was easy, staff friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast in the morning was partly buffet, with hot items being ordered. A clever way to cope with Covid, fruit juice / milk / yogurt / cereal etc are all served in individual portions in mini bottles and jam jars.
The cooked breafast was well presented, delicious local sausages and a variety of choice, including vegetarian.
So why not the full five stars? Absolutely nothing wrong with the accommodation or the service, just lacking that 'x' factor, a little formulaic and bland and without that usp to make it special.

Nice hotel. Great staff especially reception and breakfast.
Good location and and on site car park albeit it’s a tight squeeze and you do need advanced driving skills to get parked.
Rooms clean and tidy with a place to work. Bathrooms spotless and well appointed. Hotel bar is decent but expensive with a good range of draught beers and spirits.
Breakfast is above average in quality but you need to ask if you want two of everything which you don’t pay more for. Slightly odd. There is a huge choice though of cold food and they are happy to sort extra toast.

Never been to Wisteria hotel before, but we were very impressed. We booked for afternoon tea for four people and were shown to a lovely homely room with several low tables, armchairs and a sofa an open fire and really attractive decor. We each started with a large glass of Prosecco, followed by the most gorgeous and plentiful afternoon tea – four fillings in the finger sandwiches, fruit scone, plain scone, jam and proper clotted cream, delicious Eton Mess and lots of small cakes too (see photos). It was all so filling that we couldn’t eat it all so they kindly provided a couple of boxes to take the rest of the cakes away to enjoy the next day at home. Staff were very pleasant and it was very good value for money. We had lots to chat about but the only thing that might have added to the atmosphere would perhaps be some very soft harp music.

Just had a lovely stay cation at this hotel.Very friendly , helpful and attentive staff and very yummy food. The room was well appointed and clean and incorporated drink making facilities and it is very closely situated to the centre of Oakham with its many and interesting historical sites and a plethora of delicatessens, coffee shops and restaurants as well as many interesting specialist shops. I highly recommend this hotel and fully intend to revisit in the near future. Ian

Thanks for getting in touch. He is welcome to all areas of the hotel except for the main dining room for dinner. We do however have tables in the bar area we can accommodate for dinner on the restaurant dinner menu.
There are more places to choose from in the Oakham area.
