Detailed Reviews
A little hidden gem of a hotel. We found out by accident this place has 4/5 brand new bedrooms for accommodation. Very reasonably priced, zero hassle as no check in desk, just a key box that required a code.
The room was immaculate and and very well presented. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was that it was unbearable hot with no way of turning the heating down.
I would 100% stay here again.

We’d just walked in the hot sun with our dog for nearly 6-miles and wanted somewhere for lunch.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The menu had something for everyone. I went for the homemade burger. It was perfect. The homemade coleslaw was to die for...the best I e ever had. The fries were crispy and very hot.
My good lady had the homemade mushroom soup and toasted cheese sandwich. The soup was so tasty. She wasn’t so keen on the toastie but that’s more to do with her not liking butter than the quality of it...I demolished it in seconds.
The atmosphere was so chilled and relaxed and we will most definitely recommend this as a place for lunch...there are loads of places in Oakham but not many that are worth recommending.

Room good with lovely comfy bed and bed linen. Trouble getting into allocated room, and when I returned later to retire for the night I found my suitcase in the lobby!
No hairdryer so left with wet hair. No milk to accompany tea and coffee, no staff, no breakfast included despite reviews to the contrary. no wife code
Would not recomend this place.

We and our friends were looking for an overnight stopover on our way home from Suffolk. We wanted Oakham and chose The Merry Monk because of it's central location and the price was good with breakfast included.
We were checked in by a member of staff and shown to our rooms. We were very pleased when we saw them. The rooms are very modern contempory style and everything was spotlessly clean and good standard equipment. Next to the kettle is a plastic measuring jug. The purpose is evident if you try to fill the kettle from the bathroom basin. It is not possible given the small size of the basin hence the thoughtful provision of the jug. The bed and the quality bed linnen ensured a really good night's sleep.
Breakfast was a little chaotic given the number of guests all wanting feeding at the same time. The staff however were attentive and worked hard to see that everyone was well looked after.
All in all we were very happy with our short stay and give our thanks to the staff.

This recently refurbished pub is in the centre of Oakham. Despite this we found very little in the way of noise to disturb us, in fact the only thing that woke was the church bells ringing at 10am on Sunday. The room was lovely and clean although I'd like to recommend coasters in the room to prevent the hot cups staining the new woodwork and a picture or two on the walls as they appeared quite stark. Bed was comfy. An excellent breakfast was provided and we really enjoyed our stay.
