Detailed Reviews
Our last visit to the Douglas Park Guest House was August 2019 & we were due to visit for Easter 2020 but sadly due to the unprecedented covid 19 situation our booking was cancelled. I’ve just checked into the Douglas Park Guest House website to discover that Ken hopes to reopen from the 18/07/20. We already have a return booking scheduled for August 2020 & are keeping everything crossed that we make it!
We have visited the Douglas Park many times & have always had a wonderful break. It’s home from home for us.....the perfect host full of local knowledge, beautiful
guest house, always immaculate with everything you could wish for, scrumptious breakfasts cooked to perfection by Ken, idyllic setting & location & Dunoon is the gateway to many spectacular places to visit. DP is truly worthy of its 5 star reviews & always surpasses all expectations.
We felt we needed to write this review to advise any prospective guests that we know that Ken will have everything in place to ensure that a safe & professional transition is offered to all guests as The Douglas Park reopens its doors again!! .......fantastic news! 🌈

Thank you RJMckay for a truly lovely 5 star review. It is always my pleasure to welcome you and your family to the Douglas Park Guest House. I am looking forward to getting the 'green light' from Scottish Government to re-open on the 18th of July, when I will be implementing all of the appropriate measures to ensure our guests have a safe and comfortable stay. Looking forward to seeing you in August (hopefully) , but in the mean time , stay safe and take care. Ken & Tilly

Located on the sea front in lovely seaside setting of Kirn about a mile pleasant stroll along the promenade to Dunoon town centre. There is a bus stop right outside if the walk is too much for you. Handy for the Hunters Quay car ferry this smart and clean B&B offers great views across the Firth of Clyde and is highly recommended. Kenny the owner ensures everyone feels at home and the standards he maintains would put some 4 star hotels to shame. Nice touches like the binoculars in the room to observe the wonderful sealife the Clyde presents are an example of this. The Tunnick Tea Cakes another. The breakfast menu is delicious and consistently good no matter what you order. For us this was the best B&B we have stayed in.
Tips for other travellers
Kenny is quite rightly proud of Dunoon and is more than happy to share his knowledge of the area with guests. For example he booked ahead our Evening Meal for the day we arrived after a long drive to Dunoon at The Lorne. The food was great and the staff really helpful. It saved us from a great deal of hassle in finding somewhere good to eat. If you travel across to Gourock on the ferry , the Cafe Continental was very good. We also made use of the reasonable public transport on the Cowel peninsula and a day ticket is from only £2.99 . The Shore cafe is lovely at Blairmore and later that same day we visited the Osbourne House in Innellen for a lovely evening meal. All accessible from the B&B on bus route outside. Benmore Gardens is a must visit too. If possible get along to Largs on the Clyde Coast too.

Thank you ataylor1961 for a superb 5 star review on Douglas Park and a small selection of your adventures when you stayed with me. Thank you for your kind comments. It was lovely to host you and hear what you had planned for each day, leaving your car parked up, using public transport. I'm certainly looking forward to your return to DP for more adventures! Best wishes, Kenny

Stayed here for one night in October 2020. The location is on the sea front and our room and the breakfast room provided a superb view of the sea. The room and bathroom were very clean with a good shower. The host had provided a selection of biscuits, tea and coffee, and the breakfast was very good, with a good variety on offer. The host was very friendly and helpful, even booking a table for us at a local restaurant. (unfortunately the restaurant did not prove to be to our tastes, and would not have received a positive review).

DP is a beautiful, comfortable and clean guest house, most important in these times. Kenny is an excellent host, friendly and approachable making you feel totally at home. I stayed in the King room over looking the firth of Clyde. A beautiful room with a larger than normal ensuite. Excellent and varied choice for breakfast - made to order - non of this cold under/over cooked buffet breakfast some 4 star hotels offer! Highly recommend the poached eggs. Kenny has added a number of bespoke extras which just add to guests experience. If you are an animal lover -Tilly the dog is an asset to Kenny, she is very affectionate and sooo well behaved. Likewise if you are not a doggy lover she will abide by your request to stay clear. Highly recommend DP for a staycatiion.

Ken was just so welcoming. He runs a beautiful immaculate guest house with so many extras, like a small porch area and gorgeous views, great parking beautiful front room with sea views for guests to sit and relax in. We loved it and would definitely highly recommend it as the perfect choice for exploring the cowal peninsula after a fantastic breakfast served up by Ken.

Very friendly and helpful greeting on arrival with enough local information to be helpful but not overwhelming.
Our on-suite room was very well appointed with little extra touches, like hot water bottles with knitted covers and more than the usual bathroom supplies provided. Our room had a fantastic view out over the Clyde and the owner had thoughtfully provided a pair of binoculars for ship spotting.
The inclusive breakfast covers the full range, and from personal experience, the Full Breakfast is wonderful. The home made marmelade is excellent too.
The location overlooking the Clyde is iseal for those who want to veg out and for those who want texplore locally on foot or wider afield, it provides an excellent base.
All in all, this is one of the best polaces that I have stay at and is highly recommended.

Where do I begin?
The view from the room, the breakfast and best of all Ken (and Tilly 🐶) 5 stars!
Ken is the best host EVER! He was helpful from the moment I booked the place with instructions on how to best get there and with things to do in the area. The guest house is spotless and even more than that, it benefits from lovely touches that make you feel cared for and at home all in one. (loved the rubber ducky in the shower 🐥)
The location is brilliant, right across from the water (the view!!) and the breakfast is delicious, fresh and varied.
In reading this, you're probably getting the sense that I wanted to move in.
You're not wrong.
I can't wait to return! The motto of Douglas House is "come as a guest, leave as a friend." Ken lives up to that and more.
(Ken, thank you so much for mailing me the items I left behind.)

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Douglas Park. The room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable, our host Ken was very kind and considerate, and his breakfasts are the best we’ve had out of all the places we’ve been, Ken even makes his own marmalade which is delicious, and he very kindly wrote the recipe down for me before we left. Will definitely be back.
