Detailed Reviews
If you’re looking for a break in Dunoon, book yourself in to the Stylish St Ives Guesthouse. We have just returned from a 3 day stay and have already booked to go back in September. From the moment we arrived Jon & Katia made us feel relaxed & welcome. Attentive and friendly hosts, they have a real eye for detail. Crisp white linen on the comfortable beds and white fluffy towels in the spotlessly clean bathrooms. We stayed in the Great Cumbrae room which is lovely and has a stunning view of the Bay, best enjoyed with a cup of tea in the morning . Breakfast choices are varied and well cooked, the quality of the local ingredients shines through. Jon makes it his mission with the Full Scottish to keep you topped up until dinner (which is ideal especially if you’re out walking all day). Katia very kindly sourced a Dairy free Blueberry Pancake recipe, so I could sample their legendary pancake prowess, the batter to blueberry ratio & smooshiness was spot on . Be sure to try the Evening Platters too. We had the Seafood version which was perfectly presented and delicious . The St Ives has a well stocked bar with a good selection of Bottled beers, spirits and wines . We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this gorgeous guesthouse . See you in September guys!

Dear Debbie Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a beautiful review. We are so glad to be open again and see our guests enjoy themselves. The pleasure was all ours! We can’t wait to welcome you back in September. Our decking will be ready and you can enjoy a barbecue and a glass of wine while soaking up the views. Have a fantastic summer in the meantime! We arrived at this awesome B&B on a rainy day. We were warmly welcomed by the new owner Kenny. Our room was very nice and very clean. Both Kenny and his daughter (who did an amazing job during breakfast) were perfect hosts and very helpful. As we were in Dunoon on a weekday, Kenny gave us tips about where and what to eat. He also gave us some essential midges advice. This B&B has gotten a complete makeover of the garden (front side) where you can get drinks. This is the only place in Dunoon where you can get drinks in de weekends while being insured of sitting in the sun all day. Hotspot for all who enjoy a wee drink and some sunshine!

We arrived at St Ives on Friday, sun was shining but the reception we got from Jon was warmer. What a lovely boutique hotel. The rooms were spotless, fresh looking decor, usb charging sockets for phones, teacakes on arrival! Small details tell you a lot of care is taken to make you feel welcome. The breakfasts are amazing, hot, full scottish, blueberry pancakes, continental, fresh coffee, etc. Free parking right in front, amazing garden area, truly an amazing and friendly place. We will return!

We actually did not end up staying here but we were met with an warm bath of oozing unhospitality.
We wanted to bring our bikes around from the campervan we were traveling in at the last moment as the parking we were parked didn't look that safe.
No way of parking them at the hotel we were told.
We repeatedly asked them if there was another solution but no.
We booked via booking.com , and with their cancelation policy , St Ives immediately withdrew our money from the credit card and now refuse even to talk about it.
wise word .. stay away

We stayed in the Bute room and this has great views all the way across to Arran. The room was well furnished and spotlessly clean although I would have preferred it to be a little bigger. However they do also have an excellent guest lounge for relaxing in with fantastic views . Jon is a wonderful host and really goes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. The breakfasts are huge so so on day 2 I took the smoked salmon and scrambled egg option and it was excellent. Lovely decking area to the front with beautiful views . TOP Tip , check out the video on their website for parking directions . I would definitely return.

We stayed here for one night after deciding on a last minute trip to Dunoon. John is brilliant, very friendly, made amazing gluten free and dairy free pancakes for my girlfriend without any fuss and my breakfast was also superb (I had the Salmon). St Ives is well located for the sea front, is clean, quiet and well presented throughout. We had the Great Cumbrae room which had a window overlooking the garden and shore line, the views were superb and can be enjoyed thanks to a window seat. The room also had a comfy sofa and bed. If we stay in Dunoon again will definitely be going back to stay here.

Well, what can we say!
We were going to a family celebration in Glasgow and decided to extend our stay so we plumped for Dunoon on the Sunday. So so glad we chose the St Ives. Absolutely beautiful location, expertly designed inside and the proprietor, Kenny was lovely. Nothing was too much bother.
Breakfast on our first morning we chose the full Scottish and Eggs Benedict. I don’t think I have ever had such a “clean” breakfast! Cooked breakfast was plentiful – 2 of everything and the Eggs Benedict were scrummy. On the second morning we decided to try the smoked salmon with the avocado! Oh my word! Just beautiful!
Kiara, our lovely breakfast waitress attended to us with a smile and was such a lovely girl. Freshly ground coffee and gorgeous toast just made it so perfect.
The view from our room was stunning (the first day there was a storm but it just made it all the more dramatic!) Smart TV in the room with all the channels you could wish for (including Netflix)
Just a short walk into Dunoon and plenty of eateries for you to choose from.
All too soon it was Tuesday morning and we had to go home (reluctantly). Just wish we had booked for longer!
We know that Kenny and his partner haven't had ownership of the St Ives for long, but if they keep this standard up they will be full most of the year around.
Good luck with it – and thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality you afforded us.

Jon and Katia made our mini break a great experience. Whilst we didn't have a room with a view we did have a room with a bath, which was lovely ! Room was very clean, everything you could have wanted. Jon was only too pleased to provide you with anything else you needed. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room over looking the bay and there was plenty to choose from. The advantage of staying 3 days meant you could try all of the special breakfast options. In addition to the specials, there was croissants, cereal, yoghurts and the biggest blackberries I've seen. You wouldn't go hungry.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend a visit.

I had such a lovely time here with Jon and Katya. I booked for 5 days and the overriding feeling I had was one of a hotel that is spotlessly clean with great attention to comfort and detail.
The hosts are warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble! The breakfasts were so ample (!) and the conversation fun and delightful. The views down the Firth are unobstructed and wonderful. If you are lucky you might even see a big submarine being guided in by tugs …! Jon will certainly have seen it and taken a photo!
Can’t fault this hotel. Highly recommend.

We’re just back today from a two night break in Dunoon and stayed here after reading other reviews. It really is a fantastic guesthouse. Every detail inside has been considered and a lovely decked area in front means you could sit and gaze at the views while watching the world go by (literally as the guest house is right on the promenade). We were in a back room with no views but we made good use of the lounge and dining room/bar which face the water and since the windows are huge the views were wonderful. The bed and bedding were so comfy and the room was absolutely clean. The bar was very well stocked and Jon the host made a mean cocktail! Breakfast, as other reviews have stated was outstanding. Wear stretchy clothes!!! You really could miss lunch as the plates are stacked. Jon has taken his role as host very seriously and is so friendly putting you at ease and making you feel at home. We will return to Dunoon and when we do we’ll definitely stay here again. Thanks Jon for your hospitality.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. Mull would not be suitable as it has a bath and a double bed. We have a ground floor room (Skye) it has a large walk in shower and twin beds.
Kind regards
