Ox Pasture Hall Hotel garners applause for its cleanliness and the attentive, friendly service provided by its staff, with pets receiving special attention. However, the hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews; some guests find it charming and inviting, while others feel it falls short with outdated decor and a lack of modernity.
Although the spa and rooms are often commended, many reviewers call for updates and question the hotel’s value, pointing to high prices that don't always match luxury expectations. The serene, natural setting is appreciated, albeit some suggest the grounds could use more care.

Detailed Reviews
We had an extremely enjoyable 3 night stay at the Ox Pasture Hotel. We chose the advance purchase with dinner option, which was great value for money.
Jay and the staff were all very helpful and friendly, even behind masks.
The food was excellent, great ingredients well cooked and presented. The hotel also has a good wine list and a cosy well stocked bar, with plenty of sitting areas.
The hotel is set in lovely grounds with lots of places to walk and sit.
The Covid 19 precautions were thorough but did not impinge on our experience or enjoyment. I observed the staff regularly sanitising their hands as they moved from room to room, showing a good safety culture. Everything was professional and done well, we didn't feel at any risk.
We plan to visit again, if nothing else to try out the rest of the menu!

We were warmly greeted by Jay on arrival who took our bags to our room and parked our car nearer to our room whilst we enjoyed a complimentary glass of Prosecco.
Our suite was spacious, stylish and welcoming.
We enjoyed excellent meals and on our first night we were offered any meals of our choice which were not on the menu for the subsequent two nights.
The service we received from all staff members was friendly and efficient.
We were made to feel welcome with our dog in all areas of the hotel. She was suitably pampered.
We would recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning for another visit.

We came to check out the food as we've booked Ox Pasture as our wedding venue for next year. The food was amazing- the duck was incredible, and the cheese souffle starter and sticky toffee pudding for dessert were also great!
We were sat well away from everybody else in our own room (photo), lots of hand sanitizer available and staff all wearing masks so it felt very safe.
The only issue was it took quite a long time to get the bill at the end, as there weren't many staff and they were having to check in hotel guests too. I understand a smaller staff team due to COVID19, so hopefully will improve as things open up- would still recommend a visit!

We spent 4 night. The room was a deluxe, dog friendly, very disappointing mis matched old chipped furnishings, curtains just covered the windows on half the plastic hooks.
Wi Fi doesn’t work @ all. The glasses in the whole place are terrible, water glass for dinner is a small wine glass, red wine served in a thick white wine glass. No idea about cutlery we had 2 butter knives each one on the side plate one to eat the starter with or starter knives for.
The food was very hit and miss 2 nights very average with a steak you couldn’t cut, mine and the table next door went for the dogs. A pie had raw pastry, the duck flaccid and cold. I had a large piece of plastic fond in my mouth @ one point, we politely pointed it out, water off a ducks back!
There were so many inconsistencies during the meals, breakfast didn’t come with what you ordered, they forgot things @ most tables one couple had finished their breakfast and had to remind they hadn’t been provided with toast or tea/coffee which they ordered.
If you order any sauce you get enough for 12 an entire saucer full.
The gardens could be absolutely beautiful but are unkempt with lots of weeds 3 feet high.
Be aware there’s a Hugh building site at the back when more rooms and a Spa are being build, they start @ 8am.
There were glasses and bottles left from the night before the following night strewn about, not 1 or 2 lots, just left.
It could be very good but unfortunately there are far too many basics that really do need sorting out. We paid £900 for our DB&B was it worth it yes, because we were desperate for a break but, no not for the quality which is poor. Many guests were saying the same. No, we won’t be going back.

Response from L F, Guest Services / Front Office at Ox Pasture Hall Hotel
Responded 16 Aug 2020
Dear guest, We are disappointed that you have resorted to such tactics to try to obtain a free stay. Your review is not consistent with the hundreds of excellent reviews we have received. These are some of the complaints you mentioned but did not include. You was not happy that we did not serve pizza or similar food You complained that you could not buy crisps from the bar The drinks were too expensive and we should operate a happy hour Too far to walk into Scarborough, despite knowing we was a country house hotel And many more silly complaints to try to obtain a free stay Hope you find a suitable hotel that meets your needs. Kind regards

A celebration of Birthdays missed during lockdown, the first anniversary of retirement and a just a jolly good weekend away at Ox Pasture Hall.
Why?
My beautiful wife’s birthday, another year closer to 28 which was not able to be celebrated properly and mine only 2 weeks after my wife’s again not celebrated due the 2020 lockdown.
After 40 years of work celebrating how many years I had worked for the same company, a rare thing in this day and age. Now work has finished for retirement, so the 4th of July, a Saturday in this case was the first anniversary of retirement, truly an Independence Day which will be celebrated hence forth.
We chose Ox Pasture Hall from a friend whom recommended it. On the 4th of July, the first day of opening after 100 days of closure.
Booking directly through the hotels website was a breeze allowing you to choose the optional extras with ease, we chose a GEODESIC POD and I chose a secret bouquet of flowers for my wife. The Pod was ours for the stay, Both Dinner and Breakfast which was a marvellous experience. As we joked with the staff it could only have been more exciting had we experienced a thunder storm during dinner, it would have been amazing for us. I’m sure the staff would have enjoyed serving the sumptuous food to us as dry as possible had it rained, but it didn’t, it was dry warm with a cooling breeze which was equally as good.
Arriving at reception was as pleasant as it could possibly be during these difficult times the hotel clearly and so carefully transitioning from before to after. On arrival, it felt like a safe place to be. The staff welcomed us and showed us to our suite which can only be described as palatial, with all the essentials available in the room that you would expect from a four star hotel. Again the suite felt like a safe haven, every opportunity taken by the staff to maintain a social distance whilst maintaining a pleasant experience.
As we said earlier eating dinner in the pod was a very pleasant experience, well worth the small additional cost. The scenery from the pod complimented the 3 course meal we had pre booked all consumed with a welcome glass of wine from the wine list. Breakfast in the pod was equally as pleasant as dinner the night before had been. A good Full Yorkshire breakfast consumed with coffee.
All in all, a beautiful Hall in a beautiful place. A peaceful and Tranquil place and a most enjoyable weekend where the staffs commitment to providing a safe place for us to stay in is a credit to them and Jay the General Manager. Well done, great team effort

Firstly I don’t write negative reviews lightly, but I have given the manager a chance to refund part of the amount paid, but he has chosen not to.
We were allocated room 16 which was a deluxe room, the price was £285 for DBB. The room unfortunately was not clean, the toilet had not been cleaned from the previous occupants and the dust on the dressing table and dirty duvet cover and pillows was unacceptable. I was most surprised not to find pillow protectors on the pillows.
In light of Covid the cleaning was far from being adequate.
The offer of the room being cleaned was all the manager could do as they advised no other room available they offered us a free drink while we had to vacate the room. The room was partially dusted and the toilet cleaned and duvet cover changed.
I wanted a leisurely bath to relax and unwind before dinner, unfortunately the noise from the fan was terrible you didn’t want to spend any time in the bathroom.
I bought to the attention of the manager some health & safety concerns which I hope he will take seriously. There are cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, my husband caught his toe on this as they have lifted up as well.
The metal strip separating the carpet in the room into the bathroom has raised screws, I managed to tread on this and hurt the underneath of my foot.
The curtains had missing hooks, the light fitting was filled with cobwebs and the general appearance was the feeling of grubbiness.
The staff at this establishment are courteous and are a credit, very hardworking, however it was shame to hear members of staff discussing that they needed to do the jobs of five staff when there was only three of them.
The 3 course meal which was part of the price we paid was of a standard we would expect and we had no complaints with our evening meal.
Breakfast however, was awful, no fresh fruit, yogurt, Muesli, granola, surely basics for a 4* establishment.
We were informed that there would be a wait that turned out to be 40 minutes. The toast was low quality bread, no granary or wholemeal.
The cooked breakfast, I ate none of mine, it was warm not hot, items overcooked ( egg, black pudding) and items undercooked ( bacon, sausage). I didn’t bother the complain we just wanted to leave at this point.
There was no robe or disposal slippers in the room or a mini fridge, again items you would expect of a 4 * hotel. The manager did say I could have asked for these items, however there was no information in the room advising us of the services available to guests.
The reply we received from the manager was that Covid had made things difficult and he refused to refund the B&B element of our booking but would offer us a favourable rate if we wished to return.
This hotel is set is some beautiful grounds and is accessible to tourist areas, however we would not return. I hope the manager has improved room 16 and taken the H&S issues seriously.
This was supposed to be a restful weekend for us after a busy few weeks at work, however it turned out to be the complete opposite.

This is a really lovely country hotel that is in a perfect location which is really quiet with absolutely no road traffic noise. On the edge of the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors but only 3 miles away from the hustle and bustle of Scarborough.
The grounds are magnificent with plenty of places to sit outside and have a drink. It is also dog friendly and a great place to walk your dog.
Our room was lovely and very spacious with lovely views of the moors and lake.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. But we did experience a few service issues such as having to wait quite a while for our dinner order to be taken and some issues during breakfast. In fairness we were made aware of the possibility of some service issues occurring when we checked inn due to staff shortage caused by Covid-19 which was a nice touch.
The food at dinner was excellent but the breakfast was not in the same league.
I will definitely return again at some point in the future

My husband and I just stayed in Ox Pasture Hall Hotel and it was just perfect. The hotel is sat in the middle of the idyllic North Yorkshire moors national park. It was so peaceful and quiet and yet is only 3 miles from the heart of Scarborough.
We were greated warmly like old friends upon arrival by Jay at reception. Staff were all wearing masks or visors and hand sanitizer is available throughout the hotel.
We had a lovely room overlooking the gardens. We were blessed with good weather so we spent a lot of time in the gardens and exploring the national park.
We had champagne afternoon tea in the conservatory after our arrival, and the chef had written happy anniversary on our plates and there were chocolate hearts dotted among the cakes, I felt that was a lovely little touch and throughout our stay I felt like the staff went the extra mile where ever possible.
The food was delicious throughout our stay and the portions were very generous.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We couldn't recommend Ox Pasture Hall Hotel more highly.

Had a wonderful over night stay for our wedding anniversary. First time we have stayed anywhere since last year's lock downs. The staff and hotel are extremely hygiene conscious. They have a one way system in place with sanitizer stations everywhere which instantly makes you feel and staff all wearing masks. We had our evening meal served in our room which was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, we were blessed with a lovely view of the gardens and lake. Would definitely stay again here. Thanks to all the staff they are doing a great job.

+1
My wife and I booked in for 3 nights on DBB rate of £170 per night, must admit we weren’t disappointed in our room which was Room 7 in the courtyard and had a 4 Poster Bed.
We had asked for a bottle of Prosecco in the room but it wasn’t there but after speaking to the Manager we had it with Dinner instead, so had a few drinks in the bar.
I had read reviews before we booked and saw someone had been in that room and remarked it was cold, however there was an extra radiator already in the room and after a few minutes of being switched on the room was lovely and warm.
The Dinner was a limited menu choice but was totally delicious and on one evening I couldn’t even manage a Dessert so I asked if I could have a Brandy coffee instead and it was no problem.
Breakfast was yummy and served on Hot plates which I like, plenty of tea & coffee and the Waitress was very attentive.
Bar bill for 3 visits and an extra bottle of Wine with Dinner came to £112 which I thought was very good value.
Overall we loved our stay and are looking forward to booking again.

Good morning, unfortunately it’s over 18’s only. It’s still a beautiful venue, idyllic setting and surroundings. Definitely worth a visit 😊
Hi! we have a sauna, a steam room, a swimming pool, a gym and a relaxation room.

Yes we do have a wheelchair accessible room. Yes you are allowed to bring your dog. You can dine with your dog in the conservatory or bar area. Please call 01723 365 295 to book.
Not sure - there was no problem with wine in rooms and I they gave us ice for a champagne bucket.
Ours was number 6: first on the right after leaving the bar into the courtyard.
