Had a stay here over festive period and was dissapointed this used to be a classy smart hotel but since our last stay new management have let it drop, staff are all mainly young students more age range you would expect in a Mcdonalds /pizza not a 4star hotel they did not give good service were sullen and more into gossiping with themselves than serving guests properly ,there was a couple of older staff a barman and lady in dining room for breakfast who were both very polite and gave excellent service , Manager seems to flit around doing nothing much and few times saw him stood joining in gossiping behind bar with staff while guests waiting to be served in lounge not profesional at all .Food was nice but nothing special ,bedroom nice and always cleaned well, it was just front of house staff that let this hotel down bring back good old fashioned standards and staffing to get this hotel back to what it should be and mabye management that know how to run it to high standards too. we used to stay regularly a few years ago but sadly doubt we will stay in future.

We booked the 3 night bed and breakfast winter deal which included a 3 course dinner and a glass of champagne on one night. We visited this hotel just for drinks last October and we liked the look and location with it being very central although after reading a few reviews that contained criticism of the hotel we were a bit apprehensive about our stay but from the moment we checked in to when we checked out we found both the Hotel, staff and the food to be excellent. The undercover hotel car park which is free for guests is just round the corner next to the public multi storey car park which we mistakenly parked in at first but the hotel reception validated our ticket so we were not charged before I moved the car into the right car park. We paid extra for a larger room which was at the front of the hotel and apart from a bit of traffic noise the room was clean and comfortable although the bathroom was long but a bit narrow. All the staff were very friendly and very helpful and the quality of the food was excellent with a good variety. Both the restaurant and lounge areas were very clean and tidy and the price of drinks reasonable for a hotel. The 3 course dinner we had was very good and the cheese board I had as a desert would have easily fed 3 people and it came with a glass of port. On our 3rd night after going out for a couple of drinks we came back and ordered food off the lounge menu, we both ordered toasted sandwiches and a bowl of chips to share and they both came with coleslaw and crisps, I think the chips are triple cooked and tasted delicious as did the toastie’s . We would definitely stay here again as we really enjoyed it.

The hotel is in a very central location

Room was clean, although very small and tatty, carpet threading in places and window wouldn’t stay open unless we wedged towels in it.

Afternoon tea... not worth the price, scones very dry wasn’t edible, some of the sweet options were dry on edges, sandwiches soggy had clearly been made early in morning poss day before for cakes and kept in fridge. Did tell waitress but she didn’t seem very concerned

Breakfast was good, plentiful and tasty.

Just back home after 2 nights away at Palm Court.
We were advised there was no pool due to maintenance so we were offered upgraded room and a glass of champagne.
We have been to this hotel before but it will be awhile before we return .
We had room 43 which had a small double bed a bathroom that could have been cleaner ,but the door to our room didn’t shut properly so had a chain on we had to wedge paper in the frame to stop it banging in the wind.
But the worse thing was at 7.00pm on the Saturday night we were getting ready to go out and the fire alarm went off.
So as it said on the door go down the stairs to reception there was people in towels as everyone was getting ready to go out .
The alarm stopped and people were coming back up saying false alarm .
After 5 min we had a call saying false alarm but no staff were about to tell us this took too long.
Again at 2.30 am it went again so off we went down the stairs to be told by one man who was messing with the alarm is was a false alarm again?
We never went back to sleep no staff again on duty im just glad it wasn’t a real fire very bad nothing in place by this hotel on the 4th floor this is just not acceptable.
Whoever is responsible for fire and safety needs sacking .

Response from Palm Court Hote... S, Manager at Palm Court Hotel
Responded 11 Feb 2020
Thank you for your review we are truly sorry that we were unable to exceed your expectations on this occasion. we are aware you were disturbed by the fire alarm on two occasions during your stay. This is a very rare occurrence. After investigation, immediately the alarm was triggered, the extreme weather conditions caused by storm "Ciara" were found to be the cause of the fire alarm to trigger falsely on both occasions. The fire alarm system installed in the Palm Court Hotel is a highly rated system. All our staff are trained in fire procedures and have recently attended a fire marshal training course. We can assure you that we take fire procedures very seriously. I'm sure you will agree it is better to have a highly sensitive fire alarm system that picks up on the slightest inclination that there maybe a problem. We hope that we may be able to welcome once again to the Palm Court Hotel

Came to the Palm court hotel this weekend, upon arrival we checked in and were told we had been upgraded to a superior room on the third floor room 32 do we happy with that and went off to our room. The lift has definitely seen better days it's filthy and you can see all the dirt in the vents as you stand in it. We got to our room and it didn't look very superior to me. Very basic small double bed in it with a very tired looking carpet I'd of hated to see the room we were ment to have !. Well what a very long night you can hear everything that goes on outside in the street and I was wearing ear plugs too ! Not the hotel's fault the noise outside you may think, but the windows are not double glazed which would make a world of difference and there so drafty our bathroom curtain was actually moving ! So that really doesn't help the noise outside situation. We were awake for pretty much the whole night and went to reception first thing to complain and get our remaining money back for the night coming as we were ment to be staying two nights. A refund on the night was refused and the receptionist said we could have another room at the back of the hotel which would be much quieter so my husband agreed. After being up all of the night and day we headed to bed early as we were understandably exhausted our new room which again is very basic is room 48 at the back of the hotel the time when I went to bed was 20.30pm and by 22.30,pm we were checking out !!!!! There's a pub who's beer garden backs onto the back of the hotel and the thudding from the music and very loud laughing made it utterly impossible to sleep I was furious and refused to stay another night as by this point I was just dead beat and needed some sleep so we packed our things and headed down stairs to reception. Where Upon explaining all what's happened to the receptionist and how we had paid a fortune to stay at the Palm court thinking it was one of the better hotels in Scarborough but clearly wasn't got a "sorry about that " and that was it !!!! What's the point in a hotel if your not going to be able to sleep ? I could of just sat in my car all night instead and saved my money. So I'm asking now publicly for a refund of my money which I did not get the service I had paid for I think it's the least the Palm court can do is refund us as we had to put short our weekend away and drive home at 11pm at night not Getting home until the early hours of the morning. The best part of this hotel is the breakfast which was nice but other than that avoid this hotel like the plague. It certainly is nothing like the high class hotel it use to be and it ruined our time away which was then cut short I'm very angry indeed about it

My sister and I took our elderly parents here for a long weekend. What a disappointment!

I booked a table in the restaurant on our first night as the menu suited everyone. When we arrived we went straight to lunch which was served in the lounge. Everything was lovely.

The rooms were disappointing from the photos and very tired and dated. The whole hotel was cold and draughty and we had to keep getting up from our table to close doors to reduce the draughts. We needed to request heaters in the rooms as the heating only came on at certain times despite the cold weather.

At dinner time we were shown again to a table in the lounge. I hadn’t been told that the restaurant was closed but wasn’t too bothered as we’d obviously be able to eat off the restaurant menu in the lounge.... No!!! I was advised that they were only serving the same menu that we’d already eaten off at lunchtime! Given that it was a Friday night on a bank holiday weekend during Covid-19 and we had 2 elderly disabled people with us we had no choice but to accept this.

My sister and I ordered the smoked haddock fishcake as this was one of the few dishes without chips! It arrived quickly and was well presented. It was however totally lacking in flavour. I ate 1 bite, tried seasoning it but still tasteless. I opened it up and couldn’t see any fish in it at all! It was essentially an under seasoned potato cake! I would have asked for something different but the waitress totally avoided us so I went without any dinner!

When our plates were removed I pointed out that I wanted to send my dish back as it was dreadful and I would have like to actually have been offered an alternative. The waitress ignored me.

When we got the bill they hadn’t comped the food despite the fact that I hadn’t eaten anything. When I refused to pay I had to wait for a duty manager to come and address things. The food was comped and a free drink offered.

The next day we were subjected to the manager disciplining a member of staff in reception! Not good management.

Staff were generally very pleasant and helpful except that 1 girl in the lounge.

Too many little things wrong with this Hotel for the price that they charge!

Before booking think again!

The hotel looks lovely from outside especially in the evening with all the lights. Ours was a one night stay in a premier double room (Room 11, first floor facing front of hotel) for £165 with breakfast.
Overall the room was ok unfortunately it faces a popular bar across the street and there was a lot of noise as the patrons were leaving, especially at closing time. Secondary glazing in the window would help. Bed was comfortable but pillows extremely soft. Rough towels (some may like them) with sample soap, shampoo etc. Small bathroom in need of a bit of TLC like a lick of paint and some cleaning/replacement of sealant around the small bath. Only little things but added together give a tired feeling to the hotel.
Breakfast - fiasco! Probably because we booked in late, they were not expecting us. Found a table - no crockery. No milk. Waited ages for a pot of tea when others who entered later were served before us. Food ok especially if you like a plate of baked beans.
A shame really because everything is there, the chandeliers, the potted plants just needs someone to stand back and bring it all back to its former splendour.
Overall nothing to bad, but overpriced for what you get.

Stayed 4 nights. Very clean. Plenty hot water. Staff helpful and efficient. Stayed in a super king room on the third floor at the front of the hotel. Room was spacious with a large comfy bed, desk, table, 3 chairs, tea & coffee & hot chocolate & biscuits and bottled water. There was also a trouser press and telephone. Couldn’t connect to the free WiFi for some reason but had a good signal on my phone so it didn’t matter. Room had lovely thick curtains to keep the light out on the bright summer mornings and would also keep the heat in in the winter.
Breakfast was as very good, plenty of choice all served at your table due to covid19 precautions.
One way system when moving round hotel and plenty of hand sanitizer available.
If you know Scarborough at all you’ll find the hotel’s central location and free guaranteed parking for residents a huge bonus. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely stay again.

We booked afternoon tea for 21 people as part of my niece's family hen party weekend. Our ages ranged from 3yrs to 72yrs and included 4 children who were sharing. Unfortunately, one of the party (who is heavily pregnant) was unwell and unable to come for the weekend. Her afternoon tea was cancelled via email by myself with over 24 hours notice. On the Saturday, my sister also became unwell and I cancelled this on the Saturday morning.

We arrived at our arranged time, all looked well. Our tables were all separate but close enough to each other and the lounge area looked lovely. The waiting staff were polite. We waited a while for our food to be served but we didn't mind as, when the food arrived, it was lovely. I'd ordered extra scones and they brought more than I'd ordered. This is when it started to go a little down hill. We waited and waited for our tea and coffee, thinking the girls were just a little busy. Eventually, I had to go and ask for our drinks.

When we finished, I went to pay the bill. I'd calculated what we owed, I'd been asked for a deposit of £5 per afternoon tea and willingly paid £95. There were meant to be 21 people but only 19 afternoon teas (mentioned earlier about the sharing). Now two of those teas had been cancelled (although 3 people had not attended). I was horrified to see a £15 cancellation fee on the bill. I'd expected to lose one deposit as I'd only cancelled that morning but to be charged another £10 for a single afternoon tea (mother and toddler were sharing), I was incensed.

My sister went to query this and this is when it goes really down hill. She was told "how are we supposed to know if its a child or an 80 year old ". My sister said the age was irrelevant, there was only 2 teas cancelled, not 3. The staff member then said we were not charged for the extra scones. We produced the bill which clearly showed we were charged £18 for the 4 scones that we had requested.

My sister was then asked "what do you want me to do about it ". The member of staff was clearly annoyed.

We chose to leave as we did not want to upset our niece as it was her hen party.

However, the standard of customer service was well below par and the attitude of the staff was disgraceful.

Its a shame really, as the young waitresses were pleasant enough and the food was lovely.

Poor customer service and an unclear cancellation policy (plus being completely overcharged for the cancellation) has left a very sour taste.

We booked a table at the palm court hotel restaurant, when we arrived we were told the restaurant was closed, we were seated at a coffee table in the lounge and given a bar snack menu to choose from, when I told the waitress that I had booked for the restaurant she just said “well you can leave if you want” No one told us when we booked that the restaurant was closed, if we knew the area we would have left and found another restaurant. The menu was very limited and we saw couples having scrambled eggs on toast for their meal , Not acceptable at all . The waitress was very rude to us and unwelcoming . Will definitely not return to this establishment
