Nestled in a prime spot, the Premier Inn Scarborough (South Bay) hotel wins praise for its central location, making it an ideal base for exploring local shops and attractions. Cleanliness is regularly highlighted by guests, although some have encountered housekeeping lapses. The rooms are commended for comfort and functionality, but issues with temperature control and maintenance have been noted.
While the staff's friendliness is often acknowledged, the service can waver, especially during peak times. Opinions on value and amenities are mixed, with some guests pointing out extra costs and basic breakfast offerings.

Really had a great time in Scarborough, using the Premier Inn as a bas. The hotel was great, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, the room we booked was an accessable room (disability room), it was above our expectations.

Stayed 4 nights in a family room - was happy to see two single beds for the kids instead of a double!
The room was clean, comfortable and with the usual amenities- TV, WiFi, soaps and towels. The room is cleaned and replenished on request for Covid reasons, or you can ask for anything you need at reception.
The staff are LOVELY and nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast at the attached Brewers Fayre- don’t bother. Absolutely awful mess of poor food, uninterested staff and horrific waits. I haven’t removed a star though as I’ve done a separate review for that and when I mentioned my disappointment to the hotel staff they refunded me without issue. Excellent customer service. (We went to Le Jardin for breakfast after the first day which is absolutely amazing)
The location is ideal for the cliff lift, beach / promenade, shops and local restaurants. There is a decent multi storey car park over the road.
All in all we loved our week at the Premier Inn and having stayed at much more expensive hotels in Scarborough previously we enjoyed it far more here and will be back!

I always start these reviews by saying, “you can not go wrong with a Premier Inn”. I will spare everyone the pain of reading how good I think this hotel chain is (in terms of friendly staff, location, price etc) and focus on the changes made for COVID-19.
The hotel was excellently well prepared for customers following the onset of the pandemic and we felt very safe. Hand sanitizer was dotted throughout the hotel and 2 meter distance posters were located on every floor.
Extra towels etc could be requested at reception and guests were asked to behave in safe fashion.
Breakfast was also delivered in a safe manner and guests were asked to book a table on arrival at the hotel. Continental food & drinks were ordered through the waiter/waitress and got food was served by a chef. This was all delivered very well, the only slight criticism would be that given this new way of working, additional staff are probably now required as tables were kept waiting for 20 minutes or so for drinks etc at busy times.
I would feel safe to return to this well ran hotel.

We stayed here for a 3 night break. We were initially given room 122, and were horrified to find that the only window had obscured glass. The window only opened by around an inch, and all we could see through the small gap was scaffolding, due to the ongoing building work. We went straight to reception to ask for another room and were told that the hotel was full. However, by around 9pm on the first evening, we received a phone call from reception to say that we could move rooms. This time, we were given room 102, which had a lovely floor to ceiling window and was on the front of the hotel. We were very grateful that the reception team could resolve the problem so quickly.
The rest of our stay here went well. The room was typical of a Premier Inn, with clean modern bathroom and comfy bed. The Brewers Fayre next door was great for breakfast. The location is great, close to town and a few minutes from the cliff lift down to beach level. There is a car park over the road which charges £10 a day, very secure and locked overnight. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Booked in here as you can't go wrong with Premier Inn.
Arrived early to ask if it was possible to store bags until we could check in at 2pm as booking confirmation email stated. Yes, no problem with this, Lady was really friendly & helpful but stated that I should have recieved a phone call to tell me check in would be 3pm due to extra cleaning needed due to covid19 measures....thats fine, I would rather have a well cleaned room.
Went back to check in at 3pm, a different lady checked us in, again really friendly & helpful. The room as always very clean & a good standard. Only complaint, it looked out onto an extremely untidy alley way & bin area strewn with rubbish! This surprised me but it didn't spoil our stay. We were down a small corridor on 2nd floor & slept really well.
Went next door to the Brewers Fayre for the breakfast we had booked. All the staff were lovely but I wouldn't visit again. The hot buffet part was served up for you, the sausages were served with yellow handled meat tongs then the same tongs used to serve the hash browns!! I am vegetarian! No veggie sausages as advertised out so would have asked for some but didnt trust the way they would be cooked or served at all! And couldnt have the hash browns, so didnt get any of the hot breakfast (my little girl said her hash brown & sausage were nice) I just had toast & coffee! Upon leaving the hotel I saw the cleaning lady in another room on her hands & knees really working hard to keep the rooms to a high standard & they were spotless! Will be back to the hotel in future. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring Scarborough, close to lots of pubs and restaurants, shopping and arcades. The parking is charged at £10 per 24hrs at multi-storey opposite the hotel. The breakfast buffet was a bit cold and ran out of items regularly so we only ate there once during our 4 night stay. The room we had 118 was very noisy, there was building work right outside our room with construction noise from 9am and also the bin lorry at 5am so avoid this room. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again just request a different room.

We stayed for 4 night thinking you know what your getting with a premier inn. We was very wrong, the bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever we did not have 1 good nights sleep at all, it was that bad my partner ended up sleeping on the sofa bed which wasn’t any good either. In the 4 nights we were there our are room was never cleaned once not even a bin change and a towel change, we asked for some fresh towels at reception and these were just dumped outside our room. We reverted in buying our own toilet roll as the room ran out and since it was never cleaned wasn’t re-filled, there was never anyone in reception when went down to ask so ended up just going to the shop and buying our own. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel it’s was not worth the money we paid at all

Response from Matthew Marsh, General Manager at Premier Inn Scarborough (South Bay) hotel
Responded 20 Sept 2021
Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, we appreciate all of our guests feedback. Firstly I would like to apologise that your recent stay with us was not an enjoyable one and fell short of our usually high standards. In the current climate all premier inns are currently not making up guests rooms during their stay unless asked to due to covid protocols. We do however still give extra towels, linen, toilet rolls etc if needed and I do again apologise that no one was around to offer you this. I do hope you will stay with us again in the future so we can give you a better nights stay. Kind Regards Matt

We usually stay in Premier Inns and staff at the Scarborough location were very friendly and helpful. We wasn't sure this time as had no on site parking however there is parking straight over the road so was fine. Nice walk to the harbour and easy access to town centre. Close to pubs. Great location overall. Lots of steps down to the main stretch although there is a tram ride saves walking up/down the steps and is £1.20pp each way. As always the breakfast was spot on. Would visit this hotel again.

We stayed for two nights. The beds were comfy but each night there were banging happening outside the room. It sounded like someone taking all night hanging a picture. This happened both nights. The food was also very cold on dinner and breakfast. We ordered a cooked breakfast and it took 45 mins to come and was stone cold. How does that happen?

The hotel is in a good location for all the bars and restaurants in the town centre and a 5 minute walk away from the seafront.
if you are going to stay here insist on a room on the top floor. We were on the first floor and the noise and racket from whoever was in the room above was a nightmare.
We stayed 5 nights and our room wasn't cleaned or hoovered once. The little bin provided was overflowing and the toilet could of done with a splash of bleach after day 3. I wasn't bothered about the towels and bedding being changed as I wouldn't change them every day at home so why bother here.
There is no parking at the hotel, its £10 for 24 hours across the road in a relatively secure car park. £50 on car parking charges for our stay is a bit steep for me and would add to my reasons for not staying again.
The TV volume is set to 15, if you're a bit deaf, like me, its not very good.
Scarborough is a lovely seaside town with loads of other places to visit just a short drive away.
Would I visit Scarborough again, yes.
Would I stay at the Premier Inn at South Bay again, no. I'm sure there will be better B&B's and hotels in the town....
